Some of my favorite movies: The Shawshank Redemption, American History X, Braveheart, Troy, Stand By Me, Rounders, Casino and many more. V For Vendetta definitely wasn't perfect, but it had a far stronger plot than the cluster fuck of the final 2 Matrix movies. I like movies with strong plots there are definitely things you could take away from V, to me it just comes down to taste, it has nothing to do with intelligence. There are movies I like you probably think are good there are movies I like you would think are shit. The same would go for the movies you like the other way with me. If I watched tv and movies just for intelligence I would watch all documentaries(though I do enjoy them sometimes).

I'm not saying every movie has to be Palme D'or material or its shit, I like a lot of more "fun" movies. But V for Vendetta is not a good example of a well made one.

It depends on my mood what I want to watch usually. V For Vendetta definitely isn't some masterpiece of cinema I'll give you that. I enjoyed it and took it for what it was though, a futuristic basically super hero starting a revolution all by himself. Anyway yeah I like comedies, dramas, action, I'll even watch terrible movies just to laugh or marvel at how bad they are. The movies I named are some of my top favorites, some good shit in there.

I actually watched American History X recently and don't get the 8.6 imdb rating tbh. It was well put-together, but the whole thing was just way too contrived.
squeak!

i have this crazy theory ... we all have different personalities and different life experiences that help us relate differently to different movies

what if the question as to whether a movie is good or not is entirely relative ?!!??    :o

Mouse I first saw American History X like 10-15 years ago(a bunch of times since). I really like that movie I think it shows how racism can affect peoples lives, even the people around the racists. It definitely seems maybe a bit forced in parts, but I love the shocking ending. I showed American History X to an ex with the introduction "This is a great movie about racism and how it affects a family." She finished watching it but just barely and I asked her if she liked it, she's like they swore too much and some parts were too violent... LOL. Anyway yeah TK I agree with you for the most part. It's mostly your taste and personality that decides what movies you will like. There are some movies that are so bad, so terribly acted, and just such terrible movies that the vast majority of people aren't going to like them though(but even then some will like em then so yeah). TK we should get together watch a good movie and smoke a few bowls, we need to get some of this aggression we've had between each other at times out :P. Hahaha
