"If the wound is to the nervous parts you can dissolve sugar candy, camphire and myrrh in it." (Charriere was kind of onto something: A study in 2007 found wine kills germs in the mouth and throat.)

lol people were so dumb back then, just kind of stabbing in the dark at whatever seemed to work and probably fucked up their bodies and brains in all kinds of unforeseen ways. damn. anyway off to take my antidepressants
