Now able to host but lagging when joining games
« on: March 11, 2015, 01:48:11 PM »
I am in big trouble now! :)

Called my ISP and they fixed the ports so i am now ablo to host games.

Thing is, i have never lagged before but for some reason i am now after we fixed the ports.

What could be the problem?

Depends on how they fixed your port issue, they mention the method?

Check wether if:

a) it ALWAYS LAGS

b) it lags only on games with 3 players and above (yourself included), but doesn't lag in 1vs1games

post what kind of internet you have, company name and router brand-name and model.

Well, they logged in on the router/modem as usually and first open ports 6112-6119 and 4000, then changed it to just 6112 and 4000. After that we tried host game but the message about closed port showed up. So they opend the windows firewall and allowed all W2 clients/program someway. and after that it worked for me to host.

I dont know if it laggs 1v1 or not.

I have DSL from Telia.

The router/modem is a technicolor tg799tsvn v2.

Well same thing happened to me when i was testing 6112 and 6119. When i put the range 6112 to 6119 it did reduce my lag weirdly. I am not sure why they ported 4000-4000....they give you a reason in why they removed 6119?

I can help you personally tonight on Ru if you can be on. Not sure if we in same time zone [emoji46]

About the port 4000 i told them to open it, i had in my mind that port 4000 was open that port many years ago with another router. But if thats not necessary i close it again.

Regarding y they removed 6119 was because before they allowed the W2 clients in the firewall it didnt worked to host. then they closed 6119 and after that they allowed W2 clients. So maybe now when the W2 clients are allowed in the firewall i could open up to 6119 again?

Thing is, i have never lagged before but for some reason i am now after we fixed the ports.
Well, port forwarding is not related to lags, so that's strange.
Did they forward ports/firewall only or do anything more?

Well, they logged in on the router/modem as usually and first open ports 6112-6119 and 4000, then changed it to just 6112 and 4000. After that we tried host game but the message about closed port showed up. So they opend the windows firewall and allowed all W2 clients/program someway. and after that it worked for me to host.
So, can you confirm that such results are stable? No lags with some (or many different) players before fixing - lags with THE SAME players (or many different) after it?

If your result is stable, try to return your ports back to check if lags disappear or not.
Also port 6112 only would be enough. No reason to forward any other ports.

I have DSL from Telia.
My own experience with DSL (ADSL) showed that it's not quite stable. Sometimes it just became to lag, sometimes just disconnects (during the phone ring on it's line).
Maybe a coincidence?

Well same thing happened to me when i was testing 6112 and 6119. When i put the range 6112 to 6119 it did reduce my lag weirdly. I am not sure why they ported 4000-4000....they give you a reason in why they removed 6119?
That's strange. Lags should not be related to forwarded ports. Maybe some internal logic in router? So, it worked fast with 6112-6119 and slow with 6112,6119, right?
What's going on with lags if you forward nothing? Or forward 6112 only?

ohh i forget 1 thing that could cause the lagg.

Before doing all this i had this router/modem "bridged" and used it just as a modem with another router connected toit. But i told them to remove the "bridge" so i could use it booth as modem and router. Maybe that could be the lagg?

Do:

a) look for a setting called DMZ (usually on the same menu of the firewall section), set it to enable to your computer
some require only to pick your computer name from a list, others require your computer internal ip. its a 192.168, see google how to see your internal lan ip

b) make sure you're not downloading anything, and that windows isn't updating and that your windows firewall(and/or windows defender) is set up right, or preferably, just turn them off.

Yes, i think it's possible.
Bridge just transfers your traffic via modem without any conversion.
Router means traffic translation which can slow it down depend on your router performance.

You can try to reconfigure it back to brigde, then you even be able to host games. (Open 6112 port on firewall would be enough for that).

I got a lag with war2 on one of my old routers (dlink dir 300 if remember). Firmware update helped me.
So, it's definitely possible to get network permormance loss because of bad router.

No, i think that's not a request to admins to be resolved, that's a question about configuration your home hardware.
