PvPGN server question
« on: April 01, 2015, 09:07:14 PM »
Playing with Linux is something I do for fun, i have several raspberry pis, run LAMP webservers, centos, phone systems (centos, lamp, freepbx, asterisk), file servers, media servers, ubuntu desktops, raid arrays etc.

So I wanted to setup my own pvpgn server, not in attempt to create my own war2ru, but just for fun to learn more about linux again. Once i have my server running, it can be used as a back up back up back up for war2ru (if wanted) or less lag for US players, or maybe to host my own tournaments/ private games (but i would probably just use war2ru...)

So basically there is no practical reason why, except for fun.

Anyways, it seems most pvpgn documentation is very hard to find. As it is, the only guide i found was in russian, so i had to use google to translate. The guide was for Debian, but i tried 3 different distros before i could get the code to compile properly

Tried Ubuntu server first, then freebsd, then finally got it compiled and running on CentOS 7.

My question is:

I forwarded ports 6112 - 6119 to it, and now i can finally log in!!! However, now i cant host games anymore...

Any way to host games and run a server from the same ip?

For anyone who wants to  beta test "Archer Realm" set your BN editor to server.usa-archer.com, zone -5

Again, i want to make it clear that this is just for fun for me, i deffinitely am not going to try to start my own community. That would be stupid, the community is too small as it is, and besides I do not envy the mods, i dont think i love war2 as much as they do, that i would want to spend all day managing a community and servers without a paycheck!

so if i ask questions about pvpgn it is only curiosity, please do not be offended

Hi!
Yes, starting your own pvpgn is interesting! :)

To play via the same real ip you can change your game data port for it as here: http://forum.war2.ru/index.php/topic,151.0.html

Oh god, now the "Last WC2 server in the world" thing is even more incorrect..

And yes, changing game data port will do it. I run a server on my home network and that setup works for me. There used to be a ton of pvpgn documentation on belios.de (in English) but the site got redesigned 1.5-2 years ago and apparently all that got axed. You might be able to dig it up with the wayback machinee maybe. There's also a pvpgn wikia here that can be useful to reference.

Yeah you can leave the "Last remaining War2 server" because it is. Even if I throw up a server, its just a backup to war2ru

It would be a backup to the backup, we already have a backup war2.me

Well technically war2ru has a backup, then mouse, then mouse backup, then archer realm

so it would be the backup to the backups backup backup

Oh of course, having only 4 back ups would be just silly.

You can't host if your on the same network as pvpgn unless you do the fix IL stayed above... don't forget to port forward 4000 or what ever port it is and then fill out the IP routes in bnet.confi

If you need more advise on how to correctly setup message me.

I dont have port 4000 forwarded anywhere - what does this port even do? I have 6111 to my war2 player pc (updated game port reg file) and 6112:6119 to pvpgn server
