I know a few players have done it ... I think I'm going to set one up as well.
Is it a difficult feat?
any advice/help would be appreciated.
-
Lance should make a tutorial and sticky it, his stream works perfectly.

i tried OBS and Xsplit and couldnt get either one of those to work... then moved on to Evolve and got to a point where i was streaming war2, but this is what was showing up in the stream:

i feel like if i could "window" war2 it would work but i havent looked into that yet.
-
Does war2 have a window option? Meaning -w??

Here's a tutorial lance made to stream war2 a while back,

http://www.twitch.tv/twilight_zne/c/4640687 (http://www.twitch.tv/twilight_zne/c/4640687)
Part 2:
http://www.twitch.tv/twilight_zne/c/4640848 (http://www.twitch.tv/twilight_zne/c/4640848)
-
gonna try it man ... if it works ill let everyone know. thanks for posting
huge thanks to lance for making the video btw.
-
As soon as i click the "start streaming" or "preview stream" button on OBS i get this error:
.... does this mean i'm screwed? :o

my laptop's specs ... if it helps answer the question
http://www.cnet.com/products/toshiba-satellite-m645-s4070-14-core-i5-460m-windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-4-gb-ram-500-gb-hdd-series/specs/ (http://www.cnet.com/products/toshiba-satellite-m645-s4070-14-core-i5-460m-windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-4-gb-ram-500-gb-hdd-series/specs/)
-
yea OBS needs DX10, looks like it doesn't support it.
-
that.. sucks..
-
So OBS is out of the question ... it won't even let me TRY to stream
I was able to Stream with EVOLVE but the colors were all screwed up (but only for war2.. i can stream everything else i tried just fine)... do you think the colors being screwed up in EVOLVE has something to do with the Directx 10? something else on my end? ... or something on EVOLVE's end???

The reason for the blackscreen is because war2 is so old, there are 3 methods that you can stream war2/broodwar with.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/265945-streaming-bw-on-justintv (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/265945-streaming-bw-on-justintv)
Then click on "Streaming in fullscreen using Xsplit + UScreenCapture" or
Streaming in fullscreen using FMLE + Camtasia" and use one of these methods.
-
so xsplit doesnt work because of this: ----> https://support.xsplit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=25566
and i dont really want to pay for xsplit just to see if maybe it will work for me.
ill try the 3rd method
-
Lance posted some instructions about streaming here: http://occult.war2.ru/war2.warcraft.org/forum/viewforum.php-f=10&topicdays=0&start=0.htm (http://occult.war2.ru/war2.warcraft.org/forum/viewforum.php-f=10&topicdays=0&start=0.htm)
His aka: test. Post date: several months.
I still can't find that post, maybe someone will be able?
I didn't research any streamng things yet...
-
thanks

Is lance the only one who streams war2?
-
violentcrimes was able to a year or so ago, but i talked to him and he said he somehow switched some settings and it doesnt work for him any more... guess he doesnt want to take the time to figure it out
i thought there was one or two others but cant think of who.
-
Szwagier does streaming
-
link?
-
When I get to my pc I will find the direct X hack that forces Window mode. Usa feature posted it.
-
right on thanks
-
The problem here is that OBS requires a DirectX 10 video card and Intel HD cards are not going to be good enough for that. So thats why it didnt work in OBS. The reason you get a black screen with weird colors in Evolve is because you're not using UStreamCapture as the "capture device". It's capturing directly from the video card and thus it doesnt have the correct directx color palets. If you can use XSplit or Evolve and force it to use UStreamCapture, then in theory those recording apps should also work as well as OBS. The trick is to get UStreamCapture working properly, then any capture application should be able to record war2 correctly.
-
I was able to confirm that both Evolve AND Xsplit Broadcaster (not Xsplit gamecaster) work as expected when using UstreamCapture as the "capture device". I would recommend giving XSplit "Broadcaster" a try first because it supposedly supports DX 9 where as XSplit gamecaster requires 10.x according to the "Minimum Requirements" tabs here: https://www.xsplit.com/download (https://www.xsplit.com/download) But if you have Evolve running already, just go to this "Home->Preferences->Broadcasting" and at the bottom of that screen it should say "Device" and will be set to "Off" by default. See if UscreenCapture is listed there. If it is, use it. If it's not, then UScreenCapture hasnt been installed correctly yet.
-
how do you "force" evolve to use uscreencapture?
-
oh i see what ur saying i think.. let me try it
-
i tried xsplit previously and this was the problem i was running into:
https://support.xsplit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=25566
the "no capture card detected"
-
BTW, UScreenCapture is a "Capture Card" sort of ;) It's what you use if you DONT have a capture card. Software recorders will see it as a physical "capture device" and treat it just like a Webcam or Capture Card.
