Finally, the other problem with this logic is it is mired in liberal identity politics - the idea that a black man being President is good in and of itself, regardless of policy. This is not the position of a serious Marxist.

well chomsky isn't a marxist.

since he pushes the exact same neoliberal policy Clinton or another white President would push.

Yea we know that now , and retrospectively it seems naive to think as a democrat he would do anything differently. but it was unprecedented at the time really, a lot of people were saying he'd have no chance to win simply because of his skin colour. so i'm not totally surprised by chomsky saying he would vote for obama in 2008, than i would be for his vote for another clinton in 2016.

Except in 2008 Chomsky said to vote for Obama "with no illusions" and then supported him again in 2012, both times for the exact same reasons he says he would now support Clinton if she was the nominee.

You made that argument not Chomsky lol. Chomsky never said "vote for Obama because he is a black man and that is good."

I don't agree with Chomsky's conclusion that one should vote for the Democrat as the lesser evil, but his argument makes logical sense even for an anarchist.

voting for the "lesser evil" makes sense for an anarchist? lol

he did write about the historical precedent of a black family being in the white house. i'd imagine this influenced his support partly.

If you accept the premise that the Democratic candidate will harm the working class less than the Republican candidate, which Chomsky obviously does, yes, it does. Being an anarchist doesn't mean you can't be pragmatic.

Well I am going by his stated reasons for voting for Obama, which were the exact same as his stated reasons for voting for Clinton.
