That's my boy Greeny repping us custom players. <3 He was my pard back in East in like 2004 for the map AO.

Yah he used to be a tier 2-3 customs player and now he's probably a tier 5 pud player after 1-2 years of practice. When I said he "sucks" I meant it in comparison to, if he 1v1'd you tk[as] you'd go 10-0 right? If I 1v1'd him in Gow I'd probably go 3-7 or 4-6.

Smeagol's understanding of tiers is limited and he doesn't get it. Just because someone has been around forever doesn't mean they're thrown into the tier 1 conversation. That's embarrassing, and it shows that customs just don't require all that much skill. There should be clear differentiation between me and xcaL. The fact that you can't see it either means your thick and I'm talking to the wrong person (smeagol) or that because the skill level cap is so low we're all tier 1 pball legends. Sad sad sad.

You can p robably compare Ash to Shotgun.  Shotgun has been better than Ash for about 10 years probably but at his peak yeah Ash was better

Yeah I'm talking peaks, not current level. Anyways, sh, Louis needs a scolding and you're not helping. He's actually proving that custom players require less skill and have lower peaks than any given pud player. Let him ramble I suppose. He's convinced me that you and others are right blid. And that's not good. Poor lobbying skills Louis.

Check the real Pball Tier thread and where I put myself is an accurate indication. I know of all the players, most of them know of me. About 2 years ago I was actively a Human Watcher in Equ/spbru/KGBs games. I haven't really played in some time. I redownloaded the game 6 days ago and continue to re-fall in love with this whore of a game.

I am roughly a tier 5-6 player. Watch GreenGoblin play, and he sucks, but that's about how good I am.

Edit: And that's because I don't play GoW. lol And if I did, my "natural gaming talent" would probably put me at max a high tier 3 player after a determined amount of practice time.

I need to see warvids for this 15-5 vs me. Just in the last 2 days I'm 4-1 vs you. And I'd say reverse that before recently. So, we're about .500. Which begs to tell you, I'm getting back into gaming shape.

Sigh, you're too emotional.

This needs to be deleted. So, you can then argue that "Proof-Dealer is the best of all time"? Or UK_Restless is one of the best of all times?

Man, blid and all these guys are right. Customs is for chumps. You play more customs nowadays than all of us and you still don't get it. Oh well.

We're all going to have our own opinions. Your four tier system doesn't provide enough difference in types of skill level. You put too many average players at the top.

Tier 1 should literally have like 3 people in it.

Think about GoW.

Tier 1
Ash
Swift
Virus

Tier 2
Shotgun
Poscow

Tier 3
Braviet
Tyrus
Yamon

Skipping around now

Tier 5-6
AA.Goblin

Tier 6
Masta{hR}

Tier 9
Smeagol

Tier 10
Tolist

If you notice... and I don't know how much you know about the GoW community, but someone like Tyrus is godly. You can go orc, and he can go human archers, and he will still spank you inside of 5 minutes. Myself as well. If you use your paintball tier system comparatively, you are throwing someone like Tyrus in the same conversation with swift. That's a huge no no, unless you openly admit that custom maps don't require much skill thus it's too difficult to see variance in skill. Then I might just switch to pud play.

You literally insult yourself and the likes of me by lumping certain players in the conversation as us. You are essentially saying they deserve a legacy by winning a couple of tournaments in 1 low turnout paintball season of probably 45 man map tourneys. I watched their 60 man play... it's literally how we played in 2002. Their switch strategies no longer work. I could ctrl + patrol rush and beat him at start. Please, if you want to make a tier system, at least think about it, otherwise you give players like blid fuel to their fire that custom players blow donkey dick. If I am equal to xcaL, 8)Mikulz(8, Proof-Dealer, Adam-w, Cs-Kirby, and Murd0ck then this game sucks. You can't compare yamon to viruz, or swift to tyrus, or ash to shotgun, or ganz to spb. HUGE, yet subtle levels of skill difference.

This is inaccurate and a redundancy of my post.] Paintball goes beyond just 45 man / 80 man style maps. There are:

Skeleton Sacrifice
All of your custom variation maps like 11 vs 200
2hero 1rax
1a-8a
60 men
100 men
Pball builds (EG_Alex, B.o.B, etc)
DK
And a lot more that I cannot currently think of.

Now if I played someone like xcal in 8a, I'd make them look like Shanona. So you can't just arbitrarily put someone in a high tier because they're good at 1-2 maps or even a few of these maps. I'd spank people like xCal in 75% of of maps, then go like 7-3 in the other 25%. I think what I wrote is very accurate.

Plus, your 4 tier system does not work because you lump players like shanona and someone like Jessu in the same sentence, when there is a clear difference in War 2 IQ and skill.

Moreover, this doesn't account for people that, like me, are not around to vie for trophies. I mean if it's only Smeagol, xCaL and QUICK that are on that are somewhat competitive, sure you're going to win every once in awhile. I mean if you want to compare the CURRENT pball community then I'd say MAYBE xcaL is a tier 1, but that's pushing it and you know it. Don't let friendship and familiarity become a bias understanding of a player's skill level. You know that if he was playing 5 years ago, and there were more me's, and you's and PiRaTe's, he'd be written off as an 'easy' stat win.

And, I know these aren't paintball, but they ARE customs... if you throw in stuff like spaceknights, free grunts, Archers Only, Friends, lightning archers and the likes, then the tier system is very out of wack.

Moreover, I've probably played 100 games with Proof, and you can ask him, I personally have never lost to him... Why even have him in the high tier conversation?

So, can admin delete this?

Flame Wars & Offtopic / Paintball Custom Tier System
« on: November 20, 2015, 09:14:16 PM »
There are always the arguments out there that pud players are always superior to custom players. In some if not most cases, that can be true. End of discussion.  If you're not used to building and pud-style Unit Control you're going to suck at GoW, PoS, Rose Petal etc. The learning curve for puds is a lot greater. Certainly true. But, most pud players don't play custom maps, and when they do, they usually lose to a high tier custom player at their particular maps. This is also certainly true.

Paintball and other customs like AO, Chop etc. offer unique styles of game play that don't always translate from pud skill to custom skill. Contrary to what pud players think, they would NOT be a tier 1 customs player after 1 or even 100 games. However, there are particular players that have lasted throughout the War 2 eras that make up a different case. Please allow me to explain.

For example on a 5 tier paintball custom system (In no particular order):

Tier 1
xXxSmeagolxXx
MaStA{hR}
QUICK{hR}
PiRaTe{hR}

Tier 2
Flea
cLeTo
xCaL
kilaz_e_mastafu
$killa$Lancelot
Proof-Dealer
Crash3r
8)Mikulz(8

Tier 3
Evil~MANOWAR
TDK-Seedy
~Tora~
WarBandit
LordCaptainCook

Tier 4
Shanona413
ElmoDoesDrugs
Jessu0001

Tier 5
Tolist
gabrielrsrs
or other noobs

This is just an example.

Now, if you take most pud players, they would IMMEDIATELY fall into a tier 3 or high tier 4 roll, and probably rise to a tier 2 position in a week or two. To reach tier 2 in a pud, it could likely take a year or more of hard dedication. But, let's take Swift (Kyle) for example. An anomaly to the equation. He immediately falls into a low tier 2 position without having played a game. His war2 IQ is off the charts. He will forever be known as a top 5 player, and depending on who you ask, he is in the 1st-2nd of all-time discussion. Now, after about 1 week of playing paintball customs, he could easily rise into a lower tier 1 and irregularly beat the likes of Smeagol, QUICK, or myself. And with more practice after a small amount of time, we could see a more consistent .500.

This is just my 2 cents in comparing the two. I think custom play is valuable and the skills are different. I want to pay a tribute to all sides. I wouldn't mind including more players on my relative paintball tier system, but I can't think of any more players at the moment.

Hola a todos. Mi nombre es Cameron y mi apodo es Mofo. Vivo en Republica Dominicana ahora. Puedo hablar espa?ol sin problema. :)

Actually Harrywangs that is incorrect. You can say "Yo soy"... it is formal in different regions. Typically you cut it out because the more familiar you are with spanish you tend to take it out. It's very situational but is never incorrect to use "Yo soy o tu eres o algo asi".

Edit: Dellam, please stop posting. Your posts are an attempt to derail the great momentum we've got going. Your ideas parallel that of a toddler. So just please, stop. lol.

Would there be a way to increase the DPI/graphics clarity if we hired a developer team? The mechanics are flawless for the most part and still ahead of its time. This game is a rare gem and beats out a lot of old AND new games. Hell CS and games shittier than that have blurry graphics and there are still thousands of active users. IF we fix the hosting issues, we can retain players a lot easier. There are a number of new people that haven't played w2 in years but found .RU download after googling this game. They get on, play 3 games in the course of 2 hours (because they can't host), get frustrated, then uninstall the game. Sound familiar? Sure does. If we get our act together, and people can host the games they want to play, there would be a much easier time at finding a larger user base. Some of us are looking at it the wrong way.

The simple fact is we've got to approach it like this in this order:
(This is our target audience with the solutions that Miranda and I have provided)

1. Attempt to retain the community we currently have. (Which is evidently dwindling by ~1 every month)
2. Attempt to reach out to members who have recently quit. (Which evidently numbers anywhere between 200-2000)
3. Attempt to reach out to old east/west and beyond players who have moved on with their lives/other games. (Warcraft 2 has sold over 2 million copies according to Wikipedia. Finding a way to reach out to any destitute nerd that has any chemical level of nostalgia seems plausible - We could reach out to the thousands with minimal advertising costs and even if we grab a conservative number of 1 out of every 10,000 user we reach, still raise our community up)
4. Attempt to find a new user base from people who have never played the game. (There are a lot of RTS players... look at the hundreds of games like www.tribalwars.net players that are into browser based RTS. These games are way worse than W2 but they find a way to capture them. We advertise our game on sites like this we could reach out to millions of users and even if we capture just 1 in 10,000...)

You guys are very pessimistic. Even if it is realism, it's not the right way to think about it. Move out of the way so hot blood like myself and tk[as] can fucking raise money *DONATIONS* NOT *INVESTMENTS* - because there is zero return on investment and increase this user base.

DO THE STATISTICAL MATH. IF YOU REACH OUT TO THE RIGHT AUDIENCE IT IS SUPER REAL.

Yeah so what is the consensus here... It seems as though there are a few different ideas floating around.

1. Maintain and upgrade .RU's staff, server and development.
2. Revamp the War2 Custom Project that Feature and others were talking about
3. Start from scratch and create a whole new deal.

Also, where is Mouse's server based? In her home? I don't really get how she has her own server(s). Pretty cool, but I don't get it!

So what are we doing here? Because we're downplaying the fact that .RU exists and it wouldn't exist without the current and/or old admins. It's incredible that they were able to recreate Warcraft 2 and finally add the Single Player Campaign. I don't think enough has been done, but please let's not totally trash talk these W2 "Gods" haha.

Also, 30k can be raised in less than a month. We're a community of 200-1000 strong (I know that's a wide range but when you account for only 50 or so people on the server at any given time and the fact that most people play for a week then ditch out for months like myself) it seems fairly accurate.

Anyways, so if we have 200 people that promote this shit and get even just 10 people to donate 10 bucks... that's 200x10x10 = 20,000 right there with hardly breaking a sweat... And I know some of us can reach out to more people than others.

I was personally hoping that the money wouldn't go towards Feature and company's custom warcraft, but it would go into restabilizing the war2.ru one. Just making it bigger, badder and smoother. Can't we just throw money at it and make it work?

I want my old game back when there were chats galore, people winbotting, people spamming channels with stealthbots, so many games up you're not sure who you want to play with, hundreds of newbs looking for a new L on their record. That's what I want. I have 1500 facebook friends, probably 600 of them are students who are rich as balls. I wouldn't mind putting myself on a limb and giving this link to them. :)

I don't even want to promote this game because when you get on, you can't play, you have cranky or inactive people in chat, you can't host right off the bat, and there are only pros/legends on with a sprinkle of low tier players.

I'm ready to pull all the stops and help tk[as]. I just don't want this to be complicated and have a terrible split like when East finally went to .ru. We still had hundreds of people on east and the .RU server was stealing all the gow/.pud players and the transition wasn't clean.

If we can avoid this, I suggest working with what we've got and just make it into a machine, rather than start from scratch which would be way more expensive than Lance's estimated figure.

There is no investment. The return on investment is happy memories gaming!

Essentially people have to be looking for donations, not investments! We don't want ole Big Brother Blizz knocking on our doors.

Server.War2.ru / SOLUTION TO W2/SERVER FOUND HERE
« on: November 17, 2015, 03:37:44 PM »
Of all of the games I've had the pleasure of playing, W2 is by far the greatest. It is now a poor imitation of what it used to be... with defining qualities such as:
Small community of players that will likely only diminish as time goes on
Major server issues like hosting [port forwarding - which is not user friendly to the average person] and periodic lag
Some concern over hacks

I don't have the time to do this, but here is the solution. I spoke with Lance about what's the next step... because we are all bickering or talking to each other back and forth and no one has actually stepped up and done anything. He said that he has to outsource the work that's left to do on this game to a team of developers because there is no time for him to do this probono. He is a very busy man that has to put food on the table. He has intricate knowledge of the coding and of the problems, and could potentially minimize the workload for a developer team to about 200-270 man hours. On the low end, this project would probably cost 30,000, with it topping out at about 50,000+ US Dollars. Lance would be the lead guy on the job but he won't be doing this for profit.

The solution is: Raise the money.
Q. How do you raise 30,000+?
A. Someone start a GoFundMe crowd funding page and start advertising and spamming the fuck out of it. Go door to door, spam friends at school, bug co-workers, beg family members for early Christmas money or prostitute your body. The question is, who will champion this project and give the money to Lance?

PS:
ONE student of mine raised $112,000 for kids in Haiti via crowdfunding and selling everything she owned. She was 17 years old at the time and did it in 9 months
ANOTHER student of mine raised $27,000 for an organization named Mariposa which deals with youth development and she did so by spamming her GoFundMe page on facebook and at school and did it in 4 months.
I had ANOTHER student raise $16,000 and did it in about 6 months.

It is all possible. Now let's do it! Please reply below and/or begin this. We need 1 championleader for this project to direct all of us. If we all go about our business as usual nothing will get done. Someone designate themselves or someone else to lead this project. I would do it, and I'd be one of the more qualified peoples to do it, but I'm sorry I will not be able to. However, I would be willing to match some donations to get the ball rolling.

The money will solve a lot of undercurrent issues. It won't help me because I am temporarily in the Dominican Republic and the PvPgn server conflicts with most 3rd world country providers. BUT, it will help out all of us fools that are in the US, Canada and Europe. We get this shit fixed guys, and we can have a game where the sky is the limit. 200-10k people on at any given time. We just have to fix our basic problems.

Yamon says he could "get the money today". I doubt it, but it'd be nice to believe him. Someone pester him? We now have clear direction and a solution. Our only barrier is money. Lezz do it!

IF NOTHING HAS CHANGED BY JANUARY, I WILL BEGIN RAISING MONEY AND EXCLUDE ALL OF YOU WHEN I GET A TROPHY. <3

EDIT: YOU WILL BE ASKING FOR DONATIONS, THERE IS NO INVESTMENT. NOONE WILL BE GETTING PRIVATE SHARES OF THE W2 SERVER OR ANYTHING. THE MATH EQUATION HERE IS IF LANCE HAS 30k = PERFECT W2 GAME.
