Title: Singles Tournament, Saturday November 28th, 4pm Eastern Time
Post by: ~ToRa~ on November 08, 2015, 06:52:19 AM
The next Singles Tournament will be held on November 28th, 4pm Eastern Time in the Tournament Channel
The Prizes will be the standard with the exception of 1st.(00joe donated his prize money to the 1st place winner of this month.)
4th $10
3rd $20
2nd $30
1st $70

Once again ALL PLAYERS MUST HAVE ANTI HACK in order to participate.
And all players must have paypal to receive their prizes.

Now the question is how to host this months singles.
I've been receiving a lot of feed back from different members on the types of maps they would want to play in the up coming series.
I came up with this idea,

1st round GSEW High res

2nd round Spiral Med res

Semi final round POS Low res

Final round GOW High res.

Of course I am willing to hear feed back, so let me know what you guys think bellow.

i'd replace spiral with NWTR personally. on one hand yeah its cool to throw a sea map in there, but on the other nobody except braviet and spb play sea, and i dont even think they do any more.

but im just one person.. the rest of the maps look good imo

Multiple map tournament seems cool

Also cool of Joe to donate his winnings.

Thanksgiving may keep me away but probably doesn't rule out most people

Yeah I told Joe when he told Tora he was donating it what an honorable and nice thing it was. Xcal donated his 2nd place winnings of $30 in the last PBall tourny to this Saturdays 45 Man tournament too, that was honorable too. Joe is a very cool guy, I've talked to him on the server different times and he seems like a smart and nice guy to talk to. Definitely a cool thing to donate his winnings because he definitely earned them. I'm off to bed see you guys at the tournament if you can make it.

I honestly never even considered NWTR, if we did the res would have to be high i suppose

high is best but low is interesting as well.. low res makes the fight for wood much more intense in nwtr

Warhammer plays sea, as do I. Think I allied ViolentCrimes playing some sea maps one time too. Unless he only joined cause no other game available.

Players like sale39 also host sea maps more often then they join a gow game also. And sales pretty decent at World Domination as humans

If you are planning to have sea maps in a tourney, it is best to put the sea map in round 1 imo.  You will get a lot of people you don't expect to round 2 which will help with the fun factor for those who otherwise are gow rd 1 exits.  Maps like gseps benefit the best players rather than the weaker ones.  Because it is primarily a rush map, those with great res management typically fare the best and that happens to coincide with the top gow players.  Generally the top players, we'll call it tier 4 and higher, play gseps high and pos low with the most frequency behind gow/ef.  They will have spent more time playing those maps than the lower tier players who just happen to be on and playing.  This is why I think you should pick a map in the first round that is less frequently played.  Stay away from low in rd 1 if you want lower tier players to advance.  Low is a res management game and again, the best players have perfected that art via pos low numerous times.  Just my 2 cents.  I'm poor so try not to spend it all in one place :D

The only issue i kind of have with this is the fact that most of the people that plat in these tournaments are professional.
I never really get any new players.

I've been trying to help some new players out.  I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but you can take a guy that can sort of get away with playing in big game GOWs but whom will usually (not always) cause his team to lose... and you can get him to join a game with you and show him the basic cookbooks and whatnot and maybe in 30 minutes completely change his proficiency.

You can only really teach people the early-mid game.
Once you get into expanding and lusting things get very complicated very quickly.

I disagree tora. Almost everything I've learned was because someone better showed it to me... just playing 2v2 and I'd fuck up and my ally who was better than me would say "you shoulda done this.." .. I also learned a lot by watching what better players did. .. but for the most part it was a lot of little suggestions from better players over the years that taught me what I know now.. I adapted some of them to fit my play style but I'm not very creative personally. I didn't learn much on my own as far as this game is concerned.

I created this clan like 5 years ago strictly for the purpose of turning newbs or average players into pros. It disbttake me long and my first 2 recruits were at the bottom of the pro list within 2-3 months. I was able to ally them against people of my same skill level...when I first got them I was able to 2v1 them fairly easily which says a lot about their skill when they first started gow EF. I can't 2v1 even 2 slightly below average players and win with any type of eegularity

Honestly TK you have never known what it's like to be my friend. I am a loyal person, I have 100s if not 1000's of friends on Warcraft over the years, LOTs that I am still in contact with. Also in real life I am fiercely loyal to my close friends and loved ones.

I can agree there, I actually really don't even have any bad feelings towards you. When were arguing some of the shit you have said was just annoying as hell(to me) and I just got sick of arguing on here. If I see you on the server I'm not going to be like "Look it's newb TK" or anything you are a very skilled GOW player. Let's just leave it at what it is.

I've been thinking of putting an in depth video training series together.. starting from what the units are all the way to complex tactics and strategies. .. im sure it would consist of 100 or so videos to do it right .  There wouldn't be a need to train people if I did that. They could just watch the series and follow the instructions if they really wanted to learn.

Training people is great. One of the big problems as everyone knows is a new player comes along and he gets s9 banned from every game and quits hating Warcraft 2 or with a totally unsatisfactory experience. That's one thing PBall does to help the server is newbs are usually allowed to play as I and some other PBallers will do uneven games with them to fill spots or will try to help them get good at it. It's great when GOW players reach out to newbs and teach them the game or at least try or let them watch/play instead of banning. As of now I still have no interest in training in BNEs but if I change my mind I will let you know.

I feel like he'd rather be the big fish in the pball pond than learn GOW and be just another GOW player for a long time.  Some latecomers like JesK and Alf make the leap to near the top of course but that takes forever.

Btw this song is about my friend Armyreign knew him 2004-2013 ;) . He died in a messed up accident obviously not the one in this song LOL, it had to do with alcohol. I just wanted to take this chance to give him a totally random shout out. RIP Armyreign AKA Fuku and Armynova on Server RU 1985-2013 one of the best and most legendary PBallers to ever live! You know Tk I have watched all of your videos.
They are very informative in the sense that they will teach you the basic builds, as well as the basic text book strats.

However how do you teach someone how to micro and attack with, lets say 6 grunts and a cat.
I dont think you can. That  takes a lot of practice.

My biggest problem is when i get caught up in the heat of a battle I lose track of my resources. Before I know it I am usually over mining, or chopping too much wood, or im behind on both. And sometimes purely by accident my resouses stay perfectly in sink
Title: Re: Singles Tournament, Saturday November 28th, 4pm Eastern Time
Post by: tk[as] on November 11, 2015, 02:24:50 AM
no obviously you can't do it for someone. but.. you can teach them the techniques, tricks, and ways to develope those skills.

for example.. if you watch a video Poscow or Viruz recorded you will see them bouncing back and forth between their first 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 buildings they build.. clicking on each one as fast as they can and alternating the patterns. to some people it might look like they're just bored clicking shit but that's not why they're doing it. it's getting their brain ready to click at such a high rate and improving accuracy (or in their case keeping their accuracy sharp). kind of like a stretching exercise or warm up before the real game kicks off.

if i never saw them do that i would never think to do it myself. thats a really good little trick to start doing. its just a nice little training exercise for your brain that will make you a faster and more accurate player.

there's all kinds of little stuff that you can teach someone that they never would have thought to do on their own.. but once they know about it they will either remember it during a game, or reflect on a game they lost and think "oh yeah.. i should have done that one thing i saw/heard a couple days ago"  .. and then they're more likely to do it the next time a similar situation comes up. and once they do it that first time in game, its not long before they find themselves doing it almost by reflex.

Interesting argument.
I have watched the viruz/poscow battles probably 10 times now and I've never thought about the whole clicking thing to be anything other than clicking.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSbJMwrW5zQ#t=179 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSbJMwrW5zQ#t=179)

here is a good example.. any "down time" he has where he literally cant build anything and he's just waiting for units or buildings to complete.. he's constantly clicking random units/buildings. he will click farms that are completed, his lumbermill, blacksmith even after all upgrades are complete, same with altar.. he's just forcing his mind to keep moving at a fast rate because he knows how easy it is to let your brain slow down. if you hit a slow point in a game your brain slows down and its not always easy getting your brain back into 6th gear so he just keeps it in 6th gear the entire time. its very intentional

eh, after watching the whole thing i think the primary reason it lasted that long was braviet was playing it safe.  brav took 12 and 2 (in addition to already having 4/5 untouched) with some mining from 3/s5 while viruz fought all game just to keep dks off his 1 exp.  it wasn't that close, though viruz had good apm and uc like always.  it cuts out before it shows stats but i bet he was outmined by like 70k lol

Well since this discussion is over now.

I will stick to my main plan
The maps for the November 28th Pro Tournament will be

Round 1 GSEW High res

Round 2 Spiral Med res

Round 3 POS Low res

Round 4 GOW High res

The speed for all the maps will be EF, and I will post the brackets before the start of the tournament.

Also I could use a volunteer to help me with the Newb tournament which will be starting 30mins after the start of the Pro Tournament.

Obviously there is a very good chance the brackets will change before the start.
But this should give you all an idea for how the lay out to the next tourney will be.

Right now is Bo3 for every round except for the finals which are Bo5

Right now these tournaments which I am hosting are all still fairly new.
So I am still in the experimental stage of hosting.

I do plan to start changing the first 3 maps each month to different ones.
Like Rose pedals, Kaboom, FOC, etc.

As far as warvids I do have some of the players warvid the finals of each tournament. Which do subsequently get posted on youtube.
And as far as advertising goes right now I am only using Facebook.
If you have any other ideas please let me know.
