If you guys want to continue on with the list we can go ahead and do it. Let's make a rule, you have a option to move a player up one spot or down one spot. You can only make one edit to the list so choose your edits wisely.
Also if you want to add a new player we will start them out on the bottom and anyone can cast a new vote on them as well.
Note: Remember this list is just for fun. Please do not take it too seriously. Nobody is claiming this is a 100% accurate tier ranking, we just want to have a good time and let the community come together and rank the players of the past and present.

I think everyone already pretty much knows who are the best players around today, it's a little more fun to get some insight from some oldschoolers to see where they think the old timers compared to today's players.
Also I added (ALL TIME) to the top so players know they are not the best around today.

It's important to be clear about the criteria. In the original post it already states this list reflects 1v1, but how important is playing non-gow? This could move some players up and down one tier, a few several tiers. Also, self-voting wasn't specified so allow me to abuse the system.

Also, it is good to decide how many tiers you'd like total. The bottom rung must be defined. Are there players that don't even make the bottom tier? I think everyone that the head in charge of the list can think of should be included, though it's much more work. Other questions. Is the mode in the data the bottom tier or somewhere in the middle? The more players you include the more likely it should be the mode is the bottom rung. These things affect the structure.
The way I'd do it is make one very long running list of all the players I'd want to include. Then, decide on how many tiers total, say 10. Decide a thoughtful staggered % of the pool for each tier. Add said delineations to the list. The upside to this method is the list can be revised over and over with ease.
Say 500 players are thought of, then roughly like so :

This is not tiers for a tournament or something, its just merely a list to see where the community as a whole perceives players to be ranked. It's a pretty easy concept if you want to contribute, I laid it out in the first post.
Thanks Nedro for your adds. I didn't do the multi tier jumps though, I only counted them as one spot.

Those lists are a complete load of crap. First off, 99% of you have never seen 99% of those players. And multiple names on those lists are the same person in different eras with new names. And the biggest travesty is im tier 6?! Realistically im top 2 tiers ez.

Everyone needs to relax. He stressed multiple times it's for fun. Feel free to say what you need to say but, again, relax, it's for fun. There doesn't need to be some crazy detailed explanation with algorithms as to how/why/who/where/when.

today im like tier 6. if i get laid off work and play for 3 weeks straight, and have decent people to play with i could get tier 3.
same is true for a lot of people.
this game is like the "twist it! bop it! pull it!" game.
after a certain point, it's all just muscle memory/instincts.. at my highest level (when i was laid off for a month) i didnt even feel like i was "playing" .. it was as fluid as typing words on the computer.. just going through the motions. hardly any thinking involved. just doing.
and just like the twist it bop it pull it game.. if u put it down for a couple days you're not going to be as sharp... not as accurate..
basically the same player can look like 2 different players in the span of a couple weeks. so tiers are retarded.

It obviously doesn't mean anything. Take it how you will. I'm going to assume it is what the highest skill set of someone has been throughout their "career" (lol) because to me, that just makes the most sense. Not you beat SG 1 game and should be tier 1, lol.
What's the best you've ever consistently been? Able to go 3-3 or with Steve/Knit/etc? If so, you belong in that tier. Steve would most likely rape me and if I get lucky I get 1 or 2 outta a BO10. So, I'm going under him. People in my tier, I can beat and some can beat me. That is where I should be. (after the fix of putting me up one tier as others mentioned!!!) :)

i was laid off for a month .. playing 12 hours a day.. and able to ally anyone of similar skill against a swift/joe type team and do just fine.
but i cant maintain that if im not playing that often. some players seem to retain it longer after becoming less active.
the players at that skill level at that period of time didnt want to 1v1 me either because they knew what it would mean if they lost to tk... because a week or two prior (when i wasnt playing 12 hours a day) i was a tier 5-6... and i wasnt pushing to 1v1 other top players because i knew where i was at and that was fine for me.
nobody had any problems allying me tho.
.. and because i was only at that level for a few weeks, very few people are even aware of it. startale would probably vouch if me and him didnt clash so much.

I was solid for that period of time. You're at the top. Have been for years. When I saw that I wasn't far I lost interest.
I'd personally hate being at the top. I need challenges. Once the challenge is gone or close to gone I get bored.

Okay, so you were that active, and then you beat swift once, and then what happened? Why is there not more than one notable game to show for this peak period? Shouldn't you be able to pull up your ladder page from then and show at least one competitive series with a top player?

One time I 2-0'd Viruz in a big tournament. I won 5v12 and 6v9. That's twice as many top tier wins as the one you're talking about, they were actual meaningful games, and also, i know full well I absolutely was never near top tier. I was a solidly competitive player that was never in the top tier.

And since i got the customize Hotkeys software, i beat u8 and team polaks over and over for a straight 3 days in a row.

i didnt beat him. but it was a game where we had multiple expansions. dk's going everywhere. small groups of ogres kind of being dk snipers, and disrupters of expansions... it was like a 20 minute game where we were literally going toe to toe. swift remembers the game i whether he admits it or not. we both knew what just happened. he knew where my skill was, and he also knew that i knew exactly where his skill was.
nobody was eager to 1v1 me then and i didnt have a strong desire to make anyone else i was playing with look bad.. so i didnt challenge anyone.
but many 2v2s were played with a lot of really active solid players during that time.. and there weren't a lot of games around that time where i found myself saying "shit, my bad"

im not saying im better than swift. swift can get to that level with half the effort i can.. just like any other top player.. (viruz, sg, u8, jesk, hotty, cow, etc.. )
but i am saying that i was capable of getting to that level..i got to that level playing like 12 hours a day for a few weeks straight.
and a lot of other people can do the same if they played that consistently for that amount of time with other top players.
but i also think it's why a lot of top players stop playing. They get there.. and then they're like "ok what now" and lose interest.
thats how i felt after that game. took the fun out of it for me. I couldn't reflect after the loss and say "damn.. how in the hell is he doing this? how is he so fast? how is he making all of these right decisions?" .. i was essentially just as fast. making almost all of the right decisions. he had a very small edge and he got the win. but he had to fight hard for it. it didnt come easy. not like it would if we 1v1'd today.

Bara- Stop bringing up the Lone series. Your reasoning is just as bad as TKs. Lone has challenged you and left it open many times and all you do is hold onto and brag about it. He was still playing well after that and the open challenge. Obviously you know you'll lose the next 10 series vs him and you don't want people to know that he is better and is a higher level than you. (I'm sure you'd rape be, before you say it)

Not once did lone challenge me after that beat down and i don't blame him either, not sure where you're getting that from?
His life was literally shattered that night. He even claimed he hasn't lost a series vs anyone in 3 years, well until I came along. There's replay proof and witness accounts I don't need to make anything up. Even watching the replays you can tell he was completely outclassed, outsmarted, and utterly destroyed. Especially the F games, those were a literal thrashing on every level. A setting I haven't even played since 2010. Lone is gum on the bottom of my shoe, not even worth the trouble.

I remember 6 months ago when we were still good friend and you were good with almost all of my opinions.. I remember when i start saying you were one of the best improving player in the server in the last six month with Talrand and you start to care way much more about the ranking because you were proud of earing that.. Trying to get better and show that you are not that useless player that everyone think you were... I remember that you start playing more 1v1 and want to show off ur skills and improving more and more.. And i remember when i does that 1v1 CHAMPS tournament where you playing with heart and finally being rate as a new CHAMP... And what did you did after getting that icon and that rank?? You start fear everyone who was challenging you for that icon and title and saying that you were not a 1v1 player and you dont care about that... Is that not true?? Thats the probleme here.. Peoples like you want to be rate as a good player and want to have something to show it, but when it's done, you guys start to act like fucking coward and fear everyone and find excuse all the time... Thinking because you did that once that you deserve it for ever. A ranking is changing, and a ranking is not base on opinion peoples. A ranking is base on reality... Reality is, you must gain a title by beating someone, and you must keep that title by protecting it at all time... You just cant own a title and say i am a master for ever... As for the ancient thread you're pulling up. I never said I didn't create that list/data, nor did I say that I didn't care at one point about competition greatly. Those are just random fictions your mind creates. The fact is, I used to be highly competitive on WC@ and I thoroughly enjoyed it (probably one of the big reasons I got good at the game). I compiled the data for that thread and made it all within a few hours many years ago. It was partly due to pride, and also acted as one of my many call out attempts to players to 1s me.
I am still a competitive player, but not 1/10th as driven by competition as I used to be 10-12 years ago for example. For years now though, I play mostly just to see old wc2 friends and decompress/unplug from everyday life. Hence why I had little/no interest in playing in your icon league (that accompanied with all the problems that come along with dealing with you).
Also, it takes a tremendous amount of 1vs1s within a short amount of time (100s+) vs tier 1 types (which is only lone/u8/sg at this point) for me to get near peak level, and I'm just not interested in putting forth that level of effort. And my ego's too big for me to play in it at my level I'm at now, lose, and then have people say I didn't do as well as they thought I should have.
