Thanks for casting and playing all! Maybe start earlier with tournaments, or split into two days or make it Saturdays.
I like Xurnt and justin casting. But that Cel dude is totally clueless, stream made som funny moments though :D. No offence, just letting you know, little bit too much with three - four caster :X

@eleison Where is the actual updated non-dirt-build map? Last time I checked, it was nowhere to be found.

A new competition is in the works, possibly for June. Mouse and I have been talking about plans for another competition that could potentially include Twisted Meadows once I've had a chance to test it out and ensure quality and playability

It's in the first post of this thread as an attachment. There is also observer attached. If you going to host a 1v1 tournament, consider using Terrenas Stand too! Lost Temple is a bigger map (like gow and mr bean), but I think those maps have too many mines for good 2s and 1s play. I'm looking forward to hear more about your plans!

I checked all the mines in the current version and couldn't find any errors. You probably looked at an older version, where did you find it? The correct one is in this forum post "Twisted Meadows+.pud"

@eleison I saw you made the dirt nonbuildable version for bs's tourney, should you post it in here? I was also looking over the map in general recently and saw that there's one "bum" 15k goldmine on the left, given how much time you put into the map it seems unlikely that it's an oversight, so most likely it's part of the accurate recreation of the original map?

@eleison I regret to inform you the map selections were finalized on the weekend I didn't get your map in time to include it in the final selection pool for this tourney, but after I've tested it out, I may use it in a future competition.

Sigh. You told me to make the changes, and you gave me no time. It's not fair, I put down efforts into this.

Why can't you update the map pool?


The reason I didn't include Twisted Meadows in spite of liking it just fine is because you can build on dirt, which is not standard play. If you recreated same map normal function I could include it.

The being able to build on dirt makes it and oddball and will hinder or confuse players who come to it without that awareness if the opponents know about that odd feature.

If you have some normal maps, feel free to PM or post in maps section on forum with @ so I can take a look and possibly include them in the potential map candidates that players can choose from.

My target for maps is fits at least 4 or more players and is made by W2 players, and is of quality and attractiveness and normal play style.

I also didn't include a lot of Bjaylandmaker because his gold mines have infinite gold.

I made the changes to the map, haven't had time to upload it here yet (it's on another computer). When I get back home I will upload it!

Yes, you are right a new map takes time to be completed! It takes time to create, beta test, and to improve.
But this is happening daily lately!

Maps from Shepherd, Nedro and XBremer and others are being played and improved often!
The problem is that further than a few people that recognize that by playing and helping these map makers the community stays dark!

So where are the forum posts about these new maps? And who is beta testing? As I said, I am putting down a lot of hours into developing balanced maps, and does just get small response from community. And I've been a regular player for Warcraft 2 since the early days. I love this effort with trying to get better maps to war2, but the maps posted here so far is not really balanced. Although they could be! But there is a long way to go still...

You can't make a map and think it will be finished without a lot of testing and proper adjustments... It takes many hours to complete a good map, so if people are willing to put down the time, both players and map makers. I think some nice fun competitive maps could be added to the pool. The problem is to find serious people willing to test and come with feedback. If you can publish a map on the forum and people would test play and give feedback we have a good chance to get some good maps developed.

The maps could be rated/feedback through different categories. E.g. Competitive play,  Fun, Balanced, Dynamic (the map is not a complete mirror from each side). etc...

I'm willing to put down hours of work into this. I already got a long way to understand what's important to make a balanced maps and competitive maps. I still have a lot to learn, I have start tried learn play BNE style maps, so I can understand more what's needed. There is a lot to understand in how to make fair starting positions etc. Also I think a good map should be easy to learn with no special op barrack and tower placements (like in gow).

I also think the competitive part of warcraft 2 would benefit a lot from more 1s maps. But I guess that's really hard without tournaments promoting real 1s game play. Also many players seems scared of real 1s competitive play.

I invented my own system of naming the maps while beta testing them.  I add "+" sign to the map name to show that it's a beta test version. For example: Terenas Stand+.pub - Next version would be named Terenas Stand++.pub. And the final version should just be named Terenas Stand.pub. Would be great if the map pool can be updated and changed often! Great initiative! :)

Great! I realized after my first two maps, if I want ppl to play it more often it needs to be 4s maps. Also because the observer limitations in war2. Thanks :)

@XURNT! I have seen on youtube, you guys play a lot of different maps! That's great :) Would be nice if you guys could test some of my maps too, since I'm willing to put time into working on great maps and continue balancing em etc.

Just remember on most of my maps you can build on dirt roads....

The main thing with my maps is that i wanted em to be mirrored, but not a complete mirror copy, but all spawns and positions fairly the same. This is standard in most others RTS-games but not in war2. So if there is something with these maps that make em bad, I will continue try making better maps, or improvements.
