General Discussion / Re: mccain's death

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Lai_Massacre#Helicopter_crew_intervention

Quote
Warrant Officer (WO1) Hugh Thompson, Jr., a helicopter pilot from Company B (Aero-Scouts), 123rd Aviation Battalion, Americal Division, saw dead and wounded civilians as he was flying over the village of Sơn Mỹ, providing close-air support for ground forces.[47] The crew made several attempts to radio for help for the wounded. They landed their helicopter by a ditch, which they noted was full of bodies and in which there was movement.[47] Thompson asked a sergeant he encountered there (David Mitchell of the 1st Platoon) if he could help get the people out of the ditch, and the sergeant replied that he would "help them out of their misery". Thompson, shocked and confused, then spoke with Calley, who claimed to be "just following orders". As the helicopter took off, Thompson saw Mitchell firing into the ditch.[47]

Thompson and his crew witnessed an unarmed woman being kicked and shot at point-blank range by Captain Medina, who later claimed that he thought she had a hand grenade.[48] Thompson then saw a group of civilians (again consisting of children, women, and old men) at a bunker being approached by ground personnel. Thompson landed and told his crew that if the soldiers shot at the Vietnamese while he was trying to get them out of the bunker that they were to open fire on these soldiers.[47]

You cheapen real courage and sacrifice and decency like this when you say the perpetrators of this massacre are no worse than the people who stopped it.

But I don't think anyone is actually arguing that straw-man. At least I'm not.

It's true that I'm cautious with the term "war criminal" when it comes to soldiers, due to the massive amount of indoctrinating/propaganda done by the military and American society generally (dying for our "freedoms", communism is evil, etc). But I'm also not really a fan of the hero-worship culture which surrounds service members. While I don't know any more about this situation than what you just quoted here in this thread, based on what is there, I absolutely do recognize the incredible amount of bravery and integrity such heroism requires, and certainly feel that is a distinguishing differentiator from the more or less apathy I have towards your rank and file soldiers.

I'm kinda with Lambchops on this one. Not really a fan of blaming the soldier, especially during that era. Lots of people got drafted against their will and brainwashed in to following orders no matter what.

I put the vast majority of the blame on the policy makers and the ones giving the orders. The military industrial complex, the military institution itself, hell, even the civilians who voted for/supported the politicians--I think they all have much more accountability than the soldiers. I think calling him a war criminal is disingenuous.

General Discussion / Re: 2ND Amendment Good or Bad?
« on: August 24, 2018, 06:40:47 AM »
I think guns are bad and should (mostly) be banned. I think there should be a very small number of valid exceptions for people who need guns to secure their safety or livelihood from wild animals.
While I agree with you that many people use guns responsibly, by supporting the status quo they are indirectly contributing to mass gun violence, and share in that responsibility.

However, I think guns should be banned through a constitutional amendment process. I don't like all the flirting (or in some cases, actually doing) we have done in the past couple of decades fooling with the constitution through legislation. It's brought us to a dangerous place where way too many people are OK with taking away basic rights from their fellow citizens so long as it agrees with their views.

YWFN is best at having nightmares of becoming known as a has been who can’t outrush van or tk.

Tora is just mad that I stopped harassing him once I found out he wasn't a female.

Ywfn's 2v2 strat = ally someone good enough to hold the pressure from the 2 enemies...Then look like a pro when he is massive because he dualed with no pressure.

Close, my strategy is to ally sg and lose on purpose.

I agree with TK. In the spirit of comradery and beneficence, I have posted a new poll to bring the community back together with a common purpose:

Shut the FUCK up you stupid fucking bitch ahahahahaha

I don't get it. PB clearly supports politicians that openly advocate doing pretty much the exact opposite of everything PB is ranting about, then somehow, he twists it around in to a narrative about political correctness.

What he claims to care about is an after the fact rationalization for a politics solely concerned with the primacy of white identity in America. This is true of almost all American conservatives except some of the elite class
Just to be clear.  It was a rhetorical question.

It's funny you bring that up. That's always how I've pictured shotgun in a 4vs5 neighbor war. (sg is the one on the bottom)

There is a huge amount of overlap between people who don't like TE and don't like any map besides gow, and this probably applies to 50% or more players that do play GOW.

Not saying that you are necessarily being dishonest or incorrect about your own motivations personally, but at least for the vast majority of people, it clearly has nothing to do with TE having "less options" or being "less interesting". If that was what they truley cared about, you'd see a lot more people playing other classic maps with far greater regularity.

Senate Democrats are now on record wanting to regulate all digital platforms, defining tech as essential facilities

But isn't this the only way to prevent the companies that own those digital platforms from doing the exact thing you're complaining about here?

I have routinely been messaged "you're a fat ugly bitch/cunt", "you blow", and every other manner of intentionally inflammatory comment out of the blue

For what it's worth, Van has said those exact phrases to me many times over private messages while playing, watching games he's playing, or just sitting in chat. I just assume he does it universally.

Please know, I'm not saying necessarily that you aren't getting it worse, defending that sort of behavior, or saying that there aren't others that are harassing you in disproportionate ways. All I'm saying is, in van's case, it is definitely possible that it is actually consistent with how he treats everyone else.
