The main server hosting is gone.
New main server will be installed in several hours.
It's also vps, location is Netherlands.
Server has embedded DDoS protection.
DNS is already pointing to the new server.
Currently i have no backup of total server newer than January 2015, so the server will be started with very old player database.
I'll try to find newer database later. Also talking with old hosting support about to restore the lastest data.

why dont we ditch the ru domain once and for all and stick with mousetophers?
all u noobs heating up on archer but you all have fish memory to not remember history is repeating.
This already happened once.
Everyone blamed $pace and Lance.
They were also 'primary suspects' (as blid put it)
Lance got banned off the forums for that if i remember correctly.
Months later it was officially confirmed the bogus russian domains and the other hostings on that server network where being DDOSed -on the whole- and RU was just collateral damage of some other russian hacker wars...
Why you noobs dont ditch this RU domain for good and stick with mousetophers its beyond me.
(its faster. its been always faster. regardless of the latest migration to german servers).
(Even euro players think the same)
Just do a copy paste on the player database. Fare well RU. RIP 2006 2015

It's a perfectly good name! And it was rebranded as War2.me ages ago, so there's that.
Smurfking's points aren't stupid, he's basically suggesting switching to the USA-based hosting that war2.me uses, which isn't a meritless idea. (I wouldn't recommend a straight migration of users from .ru to .me though, .ru uses new server software and has more customizations than mine.) Moving from the .ru domain to something else that looks more "trusthworthy" is an issue that's been raised several times in the past as well, but I think it's fine. The last time the server was down for any length of time was over two years ago, and no one's talked about switching servers since. The new hosting iL's setting up should do the trick.

He was suggesting giving you full control of the server and moving all users to your server. Nothing is wrong with the ru domain as can be seen by the high number of client downloads per day. He somehow thinks domain extensions effect latency which just isn't true. His posts make no sense.

There is no point moving now iL has done way to much work. He currently has everything hosting seperated. Which is good, mousey is cool and smart but for security reasons I would not move. Unless il or a expert setup.

From recent events, it has certainly proved to be our backup. Might be a good idea to keep it maintained...even if it does not see much use.

Hosting as in hosting company. Of course.mouse server is faster(for north americans) if it's hosted in usa. Ru would be just as fast if it was hosted in usa .

Just the DNS name update takes time depending on your own provider and router.
So let's wait until it updates for everybody (several more hours).
Also the player database is old, i hope to fix it in a few days.

The Ru server was brought down by a completely different event, sure it was done by the same person but the Ru server did not crash because Mousey's server was hacked. It crashed because of a separate dos attack by USA~Archer.

He has been planning on killing this server for months and starting his own pvpgn from Ru's player base.
The dos attack would have occurred a few months sooner.
Far as I can tell war2.me was just another thing on his "list". I am not saying the Mousey shouldn't take some responsibility of what happened. But I think it's incorrect to correlate one event to the other...

An audit of her server would be a good place to start to see if there are still any security risks...

Risks and confusion can be fixed. Doesn't warrant server deletion.
I just hope she is working iL or whoever to fix her server security risks since it is listed on the official gateway list.

But it was your fault to start with. Archer told u of the exploit months before and u never patched it or warned people that their passwords could have been compromised.

It's not my fault archer is a psycho and was fishing around for exploits. My server was running for years, and none of these well-known people who are supposedly the root of all evil like Lance, dellam and whoever else were fucking around with it, then this guy shows up out of nowhere. Plus you were saying like a month ago that it's not my fault, so gtfo hypocrite.
And I did remove the vulnerable script after he told me about it, obviously, but at that point the damage was already done. It's not like iL told me the script was a liability and I left it there for years, then some yahoo showed up and messed with it. It's an odd situation to find yourself in, where the person who tells you about the security hole is the one who ends up abusing it.

However, there should have been some public notification to change login credentials because of the possible breach after archer had informed her of the vulnerability...not sure why it wasn't announced?

i tend to agree.. if there was an obvious security issue that was brought to your attention and you either chose not to warn people about it, attempt to fix it, or a combination of both... thats kinda shady imo.

I've been dealing with Archer for the last 3 days and I can tell you, NONE of any of this was her fault at all. He'd been exploiting the DB far longer than he's said here on the forums. I got a full confession from him earlier tonight in the presence of his step father. When he told mousie about it, there was absolutely nothing she could have done about it. He told her (from what he says) that he simply wanted to inform her of it and nothing more, all the while he was completely lying about it. So she had no real reason to alarm anyone and did the correct thing by removing the vuln. If she had sounded the alarm, it would have made her look like she was trying to make archer out to be someone bad without any proof (he hadnt been caught up to that point yet), which as far as I am aware, is not in her personality to do.

Database taken. Server is running with last program code and last actual data.
Server is still not fully accessible since DNS have not been changed properly.
I have no access to war2.ru zone, so waiting for Ldir. I hope about 10-12 hrs.

Update:
name servers have been changed for war2.ru zone, they have also been updated on the main ru zone name servers. Still waiting until updates for all other nameservers in the world.
I hope will be finished in 6-12 hours for most servers.
I'd say let's check it tomorrow.
That is the longest chain of DNS updates required, 1-st and 2-nd steps are done now.
DNS trouble is thing that happened in addition to the main hosting down, just appeared while server migration, so have to wait again. There's no way to speed up this process...

The server attack did hurt, but one positive thing was getting some new users signed up here on the forums who might not have registered any other way.

ipconfig /flushdns
that worked for me im on.

Update:
looks like most DNS in the world updated and contains proper info now.
Now server should be resolved properly for everyone.
If the problem still exists, reboot your router (if you have one).
After that try to eighter do ipconfig /flushdns or reboot your computer (what is easier for you).
