Mods & Development / Re: WarCraft II Event Calendar Discussion

I don't see a reason to offer this luxury to people who get banned when you take into consideration that they are people who have hacked, spammed, harassed other players, or violated any of the server rules (even though I don't agree with all of them).  They wouldn't have to worry about when their ban is going to be lifted or even banned to begin with if they grew out of their 12 year old mindset and acted like the actual adults they never became.  In fact, I think it does them a favor to get away from this game without a deadline for when they can come back.  Perhaps they will discover something more valuable to do with their time.

Really, though, I don't see myself routinely updating ban start and end dates nor the admins keeping me updated about them.  This is something that I know for a fact would not get updated.  Any type of automation on the calendar can be done but it really depends on what you're willing to go through to have it.  Way too much work for a feature we could do without.

If you cant do something right, why do you want to do it? I can certainly do everything i just said 2 post ago and alone.

This is not because peoples get ban they dont have the right to have the good justice.

If you think because someone get ban we have to forget him so you will be one of these guy who contribute to kill this game even if you made a little calendar.

You want to made a calendar for us, it's ok, cool, but dont try to make your own rules, people who get ban have the right to get ban rightly, this calendar is a way to make banning official with rules for the entire community.

I appreciated the fact you want to help us, but i dont appreciated your bullshiting when your nobody yet.

Get your real account and maybe your gonna have the right to take important decision like this.

You were given the option to do this calendar on your own yet you ignored it and somehow now claim that you are capable of doing everything that you've listed here.  It's like walking through your house and you keep bumping into a chair each time you walk by it.  You complain about it each time.  You may even put the chair itself at fault.  Yet, you won't move it over a little or somewhere else to avoid the grievance.  We need to shift our focus to a better way of doing something rather than complaining and accomplishing nothing.  You're thinking too big and I've seen projects such as this and websites fail due to this type of thinking.

Instead of focusing your energy on becoming hostile with everyone who disagrees with you, we can instead brainstorm on another way to solve this issue.  For instance, League of Legends has a tribunal system where players are reported for breaking rules and players are able to review the case and decide whether or not to punish that player for their actions.  The same could be done here by just adding a board where players can post a poll, screenshot, and reason for wanting the ban.  The community then votes on it with a deadline and when the deadline is up, the admin bans (or doesn't ban) them for x amount days.  There can also be a guideline set up for the amount of time a player gets banned depending on the offense.  This solves the problem of having better justice administered and will allow banned players to be aware of the amount of time they have been banned for.  By doing this, we've even eliminated the need for server rules altogether and promoted more community involvement.  I think enough of us on here possess enough common sense to know what we want and don't want happening on this server.

As for me being nobody, I'm actually a long time veteran of this game and have been playing since 1999.  I've devoted my time to helping out in tournaments over the years and have never received a ban on this server.  I've promoted this server through YouTube on my own time as well.  The only reason you don't know me is due to the fact that I couldn't even get my account approved on the old forums.

So, in your own way here, are you offering to keep up with the ban start and end dates on the calendar?  I could give you access to posting on the calender in order to do this but I prefer the above idea I stated in the second paragraph.  I am willing to work with you if you'd like to become involved with anything I'm working on as long as you can be civil.

Good stuff.  It would be cool to have a board on here for player run tournaments like this one.  This is another community driven opportunity to lessen the burden on the admins.  I also like that it's a custom map tournament which is rarely seen on here.  Any other players wanting to host tournaments on their own like this can use something like the challonge.com brackets.

General Discussion / Re: How to record War2 game for Youtube
« on: March 28, 2015, 05:15:23 PM »
What program do you guys use for first person recording?

I tried War2Insight and War2Video but neither have a normal video file extension output.

I also tried "Fraps" but it doesnt capture properly

I use War2Video and record over it with Debut Video Capture.  I then use VideoPad Video Editor to add music and make a few edits before I upload it to Youtube.  I play on Windows 98 so I'm unable to run Debut on it.  Debut may be a good software to use to record your games on the fly but I've never tried it.  They are both paid software with free trials and can be downloaded from www.nchsoftware.com.  I think they may have free versions as well but I think you're limited in what format you can record or convert to.

You can use this calendar for tournament, league, new softwares ( when it came out  ), pools, people whos get ban (when it start and when it end) ranking to let know when someone is now the new #1 etc etc and probably way much mores.

There are a lot of nice ideas there but I think we should try to keep it as simple as possible.  I am able to regularly update this calendar but not routinely for things such as positions in ladder rankings or player bans.  I also feel these things are a bit unnecessary.  Anniversaries are something I can set to occur year after year.  I think the best idea you have is the polling start and end dates.  I did a little bit of research about having the polling dates automatically added but I was unable to find a workable solution for it.  I did toy with the idea of creating a link on the website and forum for Google Polls but I think it would present too many problems.  I'm not even sure the poll dates could even be added to Google Calendar this way.  I think a good alternative to this idea would be to create a board on the forum dedicated to polls.  Polling would be much more organized instead of having all of the polls scattered around on different boards.  A link to the polling board could even be added to the website urging players to participate in voting.  I'm not sure how much work is involved in doing this, but for more exposure, I'm sure there's a way to add a "Latest Poll: Title of Poll" feature in the welcome message for the War2Bne channel.

What do you guys think about adding holidays to the calendar?

Server.War2.ru / Re: what we really need is a teamspeak for wc2.ru

Here is a nice free alternative to TeamSpeak: http://www.raidcall.com/index.html

In fact, I've already created the group "en.war2.ru" (ID #: 10840048) on there.  I'm not sure how stable it is but it looks nice so far.  I did have a problem creating my account through their software though.  I was able to create my account through their website and login to the software with no problems.  A way to include this on the website would be to just add a module saying "Join us on RaidCall" with the group name and ID number and a link to the download from their website (or however you guys want to do it).

There's always Skype and Google Hangouts.  Google Hangouts would be the way to go for bigger group chats (I think 8-10 people at a time).  Players would have to exchange their Google accounts with one another instead of joining a channel dedicated to War2 though.

Hola all,

I'm working on a calendar that will be added to the website and forum.  This calendar will be used to keep players updated on all events that take place on the server.  However, I would also like to add other dates relevant to War2's history like the anniversary of the game release or anniversary of this server.  I will try to add what I can from my own research but I thought I would create this thread to see if there are any special dates that any members of the community feel should be added to this calendar.

Please reply to this thread with any dates you feel should be added to the calendar.  I'm also welcome to new ideas.  If there is anything you think would help make this calendar better, please let me know.

A little more background on this post from the Forum Affairs board: http://forum.war2.ru/index.php/topic,698.0.html

Website & Forum Discussion / Re: Add a calendar.

I wouldn't mind creating a Google Calendar for War2 and passing on the embed code to the admins.  This would be a great addition to the site and the forum.  This calendar could be shared and edited by every admin.  The calendar is then more likely to get updated when an admin hosts a tournament. We can even take it a step further and sync the calendar with Facebook events so that every time an event is created on Facebook it will also post on the calendar.

I'd like to move forward with this.  Who do I send the embed code to?  If the admins have GMail accounts, please PM them to me and I will send an invite to the calendar.  I'll also discuss this with Burnt since I think he would use it the most as he hosts majority of the tournaments and manages the Facebook page (I think?).

Props for taking some initiative. Google calendar sounds like a potentially good solution since it would be trivial to embed in both site & forum, and the FB events sync is a nice feature. (Though I'm not sure how often Burnt creates actual events for tournies etc? I think usually he just does that for the festival in July.) Are you also volunteering to keep the calendar up to date? That's what the project would really need to get off the ground.

You had originally offered the Google Calender solution to Equinox and it's a shame he didn't take charge of it right there.  I only built upon that idea.

I can keep the calendar up to date as long as I'm notified of events by the admins.  I still hope to make the calendar available for editing between all admins though.  I'd like to try to work closely with Burnt on this if possible.  I wouldn't mind taking on the responsibility of creating Facebook events for the server either.  If the event is a tournament, we could even post a link on the event page for a challonge.com bracket that players can sign up on.  I'm sure we would definitely see an improvement in attendance for events/tournaments.  This will also help lessen Burnt's workload for tournaments.  I'll try to get in touch with Burnt about syncing the calendar with Facebook events.  Once I've created the calendar and added any upcoming events, I will pass on the embed code to you.

All admins, please feel free to contact me if you  would like to have access to the calendar.

They can do it too, but they will do nothing comming from my ideas.

If any admin would like to implement this in the way I described, they are more than welcome to take charge of it.

It's not a bad idea and I'm really glad you thought of it.  The admins aren't being biased toward your idea.  They have legitimate concerns about the calendar not being regularly updated.  I'm merely trying to provide a solution to this concern and take charge of this project with their approval.  The new forum has been designed in a way that it's focused on community driven improvements and contributions.  Antagonizing the admins constantly isn't going to help push this idea forward.  Instead, asking yourself how this can be accomplished in a way that it can work would be a much better way to make use of your time.  Brainstorm with the rest of the community if you need to.  Most would be glad to help you if you remain civil.

Sounds like it may be a graphics card driver issue.  You may have recently received a driver update through Windows update that caused the problem.  From what I've researched so far, it looks like this problem occurs on AMD GPU's after a driver update.  I tested war2 on a Windows 8.1 64-bit computer with a Intel GPU and didn't have any problems.

Here are a few things you can try:

Try to rollback the graphics card driver.  Here's how: youtube.com/watch?v=Qb0fO6rAKAc

If that doesn't work...

Go to IObit.com and download Driver Booster (make sure you uncheck Insall Advanced SystemCare on the last screen of the setup).  Update drivers with Driver Booster and reboot your computer.  Then try to launch war2.  It's a long shot but it may fix the problem.

...and if that doesn't work... o_o

1. Download GPU Caps Viewer from geeks3d.com

2. Download FastStone Image Capture (a free 30 day trial) from faststone.org

3. Open GPU Caps Viewer and capture the active window with FastStone.  Save the file as a jpg and upload it here.  (The file size should be well under the 1280KB limit for attachments on the forum.)  This information will help me narrow down the cause of the problem (if it's what I suspect).

Make sure nothing is tying down your network.

1. Almost every time I play with a lagger, I tell them to make sure nothing is syncing (Dropbox, OneNote, etc.) on their computer.  This usually fixes their lag.

2. Is the new computer hard wired to the router or using the wifi?  If possible, try it hard wired.  If you're using wifi, the computer may be too far from the router.  It may help to either move the computer closer to the router or use a bigger antenna on your wireless card.

3. If the patch doesn't work, could you please post a screenshot of your port settings and post them here?  Also, run a speed test at speedtest.net and a ping test at pingtest.net.  Take a screenshot of these and post them as well.

I don't think you're fked.  There should be a way to fix this problem.

Server.War2.ru / Re: War2 for MAC?
« on: January 21, 2015, 11:42:03 AM »
You should be able to play on a Mac with an original CD or a torrent download of the original Battle.net edition.  I think I tried War2Combat on my Hackintosh at one point but it didn't work.  However, I have had luck with Linux (Debian) and Wine but there were a few minor problems.  The chat screen is mostly black and I was unable to change a few settings when trying to create a game.  All messages and usernames in chat are clearly visible though.  I was able to join games and everything seems to look and work fine outside of the bnet interface.  Your best bet is to try Wine on the Mac.  You may have different results but it's worth a try.  A VM isn't a bad idea either.
