edit i added some tons of unit icons, and some hero's!
EDIT: I have window 8.1 if you use the save button on the bottom right. It will scramble all of your icons. USE the save function from the menu at top right.
I download iL's bni from server war2 and added my custom images and check for names to be correct. The attachment is a new file and i removed the broken one.

Personal icons should be 'deserved' really...Like 5 k wins or 10k games per account. I mean it should be an incentive for people to play more..

Oh wow, that's kickass! So-o much easier than that super convoluted method we had to use before.
So what's the plan now that creating a custom icons.bni file is accessible to the layperson? Custom client tags for all? Custom client tags as rewards only? Maybe we should start poll. :P

flag icons stink, i am strongly opposed to the idea of giving the iconz to everyone!!
OTOH icons as tournament rewards are cool. Im thinking 1 icon per 8 tournament participants or smth like that (so 1 icon per small 8 person tournament, 2 icons for a bigger 16 player tournament etc). idk lol, gogo poll

Do we really care so much what country people are from?
Think of it like this, if mods had to assign everyone their own custom personal icon it would take tons of time. But how many people will actually make their own personal icon that fits the specifications? Probably not that many. It might actually be manageable to do this. Even more manageable if you say they have to win some sort of tourney first.
On the other hand, unless you can automate it, if you say everyone gets flag icons, you're talking about giving manually giving an icon to thousands of people, and why, so they can have a flag for some reason? Give me the __FR one btw.

i say fuck icons for everyone ideas (e.g country flags). I have 3 concepts in mind:
1. Amount of wins / amounts of losses / amount of total games played - self explanatory. we could add more icons for these, or create separate icons for wins and seprate for losses...
2. Ladder - ABCDF (+ / -) iconz for ~~top200 ladder awarded by a parsing bot
3. amount of wins in the tournament - how i see this is like with the axes and first 10 wins, but simplified. For example 1 2 3 4 blue stripes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th win in a tournament. Later on i'd say red or green stripes, then purple, or stars, or more complex thingies or even skulls. Idk, but this could make unique, interesting icons for the tournament winners. This may encourage people to participate in various tourneys. Tournament directors responsibility would be to report the tournament win to some icon admin or in a dedicated thread. I'd add a rule of 8-player-minimum to this as well... my personal favourite
it's possible to mix these ideas, but i'd prefer having #3 exclusively. I never cared for sware and profi TBH. however, 5k wins or 5k losses icons would be rather rare and maybe attractive too...

well, back to ur original post, id stick with a mix of your #1 and #3 concepts.
but
you cant give the same type of tourney icon awards for burnts tourneys, and say... 60men pball archer tourneys.
or we WILL see 90% noobs running around with tourney icons :P

well, as long as theres at least 8 participants in those 'noob' tournaments, i honestly dont mind. We could also use different colours/icon paths for pure BNE tournaments and 'other' (custom / pball (?)) ones. whatever floats your boat guys. to me, the more tournaments the better

It shouldn't be for ordinary wins, or people will just winbot or play stupid 5 minute games.
It should be for participation in leagues and tournaments. Everyone should have the chance to get an icon, not just the best people, but the icons could be used as incentive to get people to do good things for the server. Like train 5 newbies into competent BNE players, you get custom icon privileges forever. Play in two seasons of UWC and get a custom icon. Idk.

Anybody should get any icon they want lol... it's not hard work for admin. It would take 30 minutes to make stealth bot to assign any icon anyone wants....

I don't recommend using the icons.bni tupac uploaded iL, it still needs some work. For example, the icons.bni in my pvpgn comes with a ton more icons by default that aren't in tupac's file. Maybe he deleted them? But why not keep them? Some are cool. e.g.

Icons are fun, but they're a gimmick either way imo. You don't need them to play. If people are more interested in some bullshit 28x14 image than they are in playing, they're missing the point. I think I'm with tk on this, spend more time promoting and playing and the server may actually start growing again, and stuff like this will become more than 8 people palavering endlessly about irrelevant tweaks. (I know you do, but it goes for everyone.)

I don't recommend using the icons.bni tupac uploaded iL, it still needs some work.
Yes, just opened that with bniiconbuilder.
"Proper" file should at least contain all the existing icons (with the same tags). Can be easily donwloaded using bnftp from current server.
Then you should append it with several useful icons.
I can replace that file if you check that file to be compatible with war2 and war2 shows icons properly. Also the question is how we will use these icons.
I don't think we should care of our time spent on icons (it really takes several minutes to upload and apply), but icons should be checked and to be useful.

I just took the regular .bni from war2 not ru, I uploaded the incorrect bni sorry. I was having issues with the tags and set them to flags.
It was just my sample run I suck at imaging. I used paint to make all the icons I added and didnt spend more then 20 minutes on this. I figured you guys would find this software very useful ! Enjoy

Found a bug when i save it, scrambles all of my icons and names wtf.........

Someone tell me if they have an issue too. When I get home I will extract to tga and use the bni builder from pvpgn...

Nop, no bug here so far. I viewed my custom icons.bni from war2.me, rearranged a few, saved, reopened, it's fine. Also did "save as" to a new file, and that's okay too.
Also, what's the difference between flag & tag? Flag is linked to permissions? Can that be controlled in the config files? e.g. set which flag to use for admins? Or if I wanted to customize that, would I have to overwrite the 0x00000001 flag with a new image?

Flag is icon debug. It's can be a permanent value set just using fake client tag.
We'll I have windows 8.1 I can record what happened this is crazy. And of course It would work on xp vm...
