Well, the truth is we have to pay $15 per month for hostings.

A player was offering $50 for their own personal icon, that's not a joke and that's where the figure came from. Anyway, every person is not getting their own personal icon for free. Tournament icons or clan icons are a different matter.

Better to have a side game option also available at least, total games completed (Wins + Losses) will allow you to get a custom icon...Ex: finish a total of 3k games or pay $15 or w/e monetary fee for a custom icon.
Allows you a chance for money raising and incentive for people to play.

How about a donation to server can earn you a custom icon. But give them there own made icons or a used one. We don't sell icons we just give that feature to people who donate. ;) I think wins should get you an icon if you don't want to pay. They have to play, maybe even affiliate with us get a custom icon.
Edit I think making money will bring blizzard. Don't forget they have plans to revive the game for modern pcs.

Better to have a game record option also, no point in paying for a server if no one plays on it. You need an incentive for people to log on and actually play games.

I don't have a problem with a donation that gives you extra features. Just don't want any attention from blizzard or more problems. We have enough already!

Maybe to not give icons to newly created clans until they grow to some reasonable size or something like that?

Well, no protest to change that value to someting reasonable. Just an order: $15 per month, is $180 per year. Also icon should be something difficult to deserve, expecially personal icon. To be the best on last tournament, or to be the most active player or to bring something sufficient to community. That is how i feel that.
I don't think $10 should be as sufficient as tournament top-1.
Also tournament icon is temporary (until next big tournament), i like that idea with temporary rewards. Otherwise we can get lots players with icons got years ago, nobody remembers why.
You're the best player - you deserve icon, you're the most active player - you deserve icon, you didn't play for years - yes, we remember you, but let deserve that icon again.

No one is gonna pay a subscription for an icon imo, so I don't think it's really worth speaking of prices on a per month basis. Server fees are $15/month, well, someone could donate $15, paying the server fees for a month, and receive a personal icon in return. It would be nice, but it won't pay for the server on its own in perpetuity, but it's probably not realistic to expect icons to do that.

It's smart actually. Giving every single person their own unique icon isn't really feasible in the first place. By asking for a little bit of money, we can limit the demand to something reasonable as well as occasionally cover server costs.

It's also reasonable to give out icons based on number of games played. Potential to increase activity.

Blah, old and boring like Blid himself. Don't see why you think it's that much work...are you really that lazy at your job? Dam. I know we have the current icons, but some people find them boring. You can add another level of 5000 games or w/e to the current line up. Or give them the option to buy custom icon directly...leave all options for the players...play games or donate. Simple. Both a win win for the server. Sure, maybe you might need to get off your ass and set a icon like once a week or something.

Agree, we have about 40 players with 5000+ wins, we can make a new icon for them in addition to Profi and Sware.
I don't think we should have many PERSONAL icons, because they will become usual then.
3-5-7 or them for different achievements would improve emulative spirit, i think so.
So, i think personal icon should be given for something remarkable, like winner on last big tournament or w/e. Last time top-1 prize amount on Burnt festival was about $1000+ or someting like that.
Of course that could be a good idea to redesign profi, master and sware icons if someone (Mousey?) will find enough time for that.
