If anyone ever wanted a 2.5 this would be the route to take. Mechanics are there.

can you show the differences? What exactly is better in wyrmsun than in wargus?
I tried wargus, they tried to implement the same mechanics, but it's still strange in some moments, but they implemented all the timings, types of attacks, etc. I'd say a huge job to make wargus similar to war2.
Are you ready to do the same for wyrmsun?

wargus sucks,we all know it sucks! wyrmsun feels  polished...in the process of rescripting to hopefully get a war2 feel...

Well, why wargus is sucks?
And why wyrmsun isn't?

Also, wyrmsun is yet another RTS uses the same lua-scripting as stratagus? Who will make scripts for wyrmsun to make it look like war2?

Do you have any arguments against wargus and for wyrmsun?

I don't think the main problem is bnet, the main is the gameplay.

just some time il..using user made assets cant have blizzard stomping down my door :D :ok_hand:

trust me wargus is bad for one... it doesnt have clouds :-*

pretty much all of our modders should be ok in the scripts...worst would be going into c++ and changing how the engine plays..but maybe it can just get close.

jsut a little play thing knock off is all im shooting for.

BOTH of these use the stratagus engine.  Wargus is just but ONE implementation of the stratagus engine.  I see no advantages that this has over wargus.  Clouds are certainly NOTHING to write home about.  The same can be accomplished with stratagus and thus wargus as well.  The more polished of the two is Wargus.  Its literally a COMPLETED project,  this is not.  This thing actually looks worse imo,  I mean look at the terrible UI.  It takes up like nearly 33% of the screen and is ugly to boot.  Like,  who the hell puts RED on a BROWN background?  You cant even read the red text for christ sakes lol.  These are the hallmarks of a very unfinished (which means NOT polished) product.

So explain exactly WHY this is better.  Like,  technically and not just "OMG XYZ SUX vs ABC".  Thats just non-sense and explains nothing.  Why on earth is this any better than Wargus.  From what I see,  it's the other way around.

lol trust me its better..wargus sucks

https://www.indiedb.com/games/wyrmsun/downloads (https://www.indiedb.com/games/wyrmsun/downloads)

andrettin added to the c++.. it feels way better.. everything to me is better..but its not a complete game yet he just added some units and moved on...burnt out of the project

i was kinda hoping to move the views around so the panel is like war2 but that isnt a lua option for stratagus i dont think.

let me just add in some units for a test and de wyrmsun it..

I installed Wargus years ago and messed around with it a bit. I didn't like it.
I thought it was a really well written, excellent piece of work. But hated playing it...

... and I have always loved any computer game that had a little guy with a sword that you could make walk around the screen, right the way from the rudimentary text-based graphics in the Ultima series on an Apple ][  in the early 80's, I'm a total junkie for them.

I remember once spending about a week playing some totally tragic freeware Mysterious "Castle" / "Dungeon" game that fitted on a single floppy disk and I think was made by 1 guy living in his Mum's basement. He did it all including drawing all the graphics himself... and it was bad... lol so bad, and it looked worse, and I knew it, but still, I played the crap out of it, stayed up all night more than once.... and I still remember that crappy little POS game over 20 years later! OMG WTH is wrong with me?!  ;D :'( ;D

But Wargus. No way. Couldn't cope with it, and it's a really nice piece of work... Why? Because it looked a lot like my beloved WC2, but it just didn't feel right. It was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Who knows, if we all had have been introduced to Wargus first, maybe we would all love it and if someone wanted use to use the Blizzard client we'd all go, "EWW". But that's not what happened. So this is the real challenge, to improve what we've got, while still making it feel right.

maybe the newer wargus is better ill have to try...even though most people think war2 is a old game easy to mod...they was a group of people that worked on it sharing ideas..stratagus is down to just a couple but alot of work has been done

I just tried Wymsun.  IDK what you saw in it but I thought it was terrible.  It seemed more like War3 than war2 to me.  I dont really like the idea of units that gain exp as they fight, keeping them for an entire game, etc.  I only tried the campaign so maybe thats just a campaign thing,  but the units themselves were almost identical to each other and the "feel" of it was absolutely no different than stratagus/wargus which isnt surprising since it is a stratagus game.  For example the mouse felt a bit sluggish.  This could possibly be caused by using opengl as opposed to something else or maybe there is simply to much going on in the game to keep things smooth.  I think you would be better off stripping down Wargus than Wymsun.  At least the units wont look so terrible and the UI would already be more war2 like,  I couldnt even distinguish an axer from a peon or from a grunt in wymsun,  they all seemed to look pretty much the same unless you looked closely at them.  I think there is TO much detail being crammed into them,  war2 units have very little contrasting color details which makes them look cleaner and easier to distinguish.  More detail isnt always better.

Just tried a single player non-campaign and literally every offensive unit had it's own autogenerated name (in german).  wtf.  thats stupid.  lol  Give it some better looking units where you can actually tell them apart (including the enemy) and it would be just as good as wargus.  But right now wargus is still better by far.  Wymsun isnt even close to war2,  its basically War3.  Wargus is at least like War2 in more than just unit graphics where as wymsun is more like War3 with really really REALLY bad unit graphics.

Whoever thought this was close to war2 needs to remove the crack pipe from where their wind pipe once was because it was nothing like war2 at all.

ofc the game isnt..u gotta make it into war2..the engine feels better than wargus..but me and incos is back to messing with bnet

How can the "engine feel better" if they both use the EXACT same engine?  (stratagus).  What makes it "feel better"?  I certainly didnt see that but I did for certain see the sluggish mouse control which is like nails on chalkboard.  It's more pronounced with the larger resolutions but still EXTREMELY noticeable even on 640x480.  And I dont exactly have a slouch of a video card either,  it's a 1080i and my CPUs are i7 6 core (12 with hyperthreading) 3GHz monsters (which I use for all the VMs I run).
