Hi,
Is there a way to have French voices with the Install.exe you provide here : http://en.war2.ru/support/missing-music-other-sound-effects/ (http://en.war2.ru/support/missing-music-other-sound-effects/)
I was used to it, and it could be great :D

You still want the french voices? :D
Well all you need is to find the french install.exe file and replace the one you have with that file and it should be ok though beware it will change the shortcuts too :))
Here is a site where you may find that:

I forgot I could use the install.exe from the abandonware ISO. Thought it was english too. Thx for the idea ;)
NB : Yeah I still prefer french voices, repetition is the same but it's like when I first played it in 1998.
edit : no, it doesn't work with the install.exe from the abandonware version. Still in english ::)

maybe from that site:

and sorry what you need to take is the war2dat.mpq file since If I am not mistaking the sounds and textures are in these files.

The original Warcraft II BNE CD has a prog W2SOUNDS.EXE
It extracts all the sound data to individual WAV files. You can then replace any of these with other WAV files to change the sounds.
This works with the original, not sure about CE, but in theory if you have accass to a french copy of BNE you could extract the sounds and use them with another version.
The sound extractor works off the registry keys for the install path etc, not sure if CE sets those but you could experiment.

I can confirm it works if you have a folder named GameSFX the game will use that instead you can have french voices with the game still in english :P

The original Warcraft II BNE CD has a prog W2SOUNDS.EXE
Correction : the repertory of the installed game has W2SOUNDS.EXE !
I mounted many ISO and failed to find that exe in the CD's, so I downloaded the file you gave in attachement but once copied in the War2Combat/ repertory, it didn't worked (error message was "unable to find Warcraft II Battlenet installation").Then I tried to install a possible french BattleNet version to see if I could find something, and I found the W2SOUNDS.EXE at the root once installed. When double-clicked, it extracted the GameSFX/ directory. Then I just copied it in my War2Combat repertory.
So for having voices in our language, the correct procedure is that one (if an admin see this message, please add it to the Missing music & other sound effects (http://en.war2.ru/support/missing-music-other-sound-effects/) page) :
- (Install War2Combat)
- Install a BattleNet version in your langage (you'll need any valid serial)
- Run W2SOUNDS.EXE found at the root of the fresh installation
- Take the GameSFX folder extracted, and copy it to your War2Combat directory
Thanks a lot guys for the clue ! ;)
-
thanks for sharing your procedure, i'll add it to that post

we should add the zipped sfx folder for every languages in the dowloads :-)
-
send them :D

Nice to see french version here! I collect war2 images on different languages.
I already have russian, spanish, german and now looks like there will be french one!
-
oh very nice! can you upload them somewhere? maybe i can add them to the ftp so people can use them as drop-ins for war2combat to get the language they want :D
ive also got Polish from szwagier, not sure if that's an official or a fan made one though xD

Yes you do have to install it, grats on working that out .... or perhaps you could try using the CD with a ouija board and attempt to divine the sound files that way - but just installing is probably going to save you some time ;)

Anybody got the zipped french sounds folder? I want to try this out!

You can install full french combat. It's completely on french, including videos, music and of course voices...
