Server.War2.ru / Tournament Earnings
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:41:06 AM »
Okay, so new thread since my beautiful post was deleted. I have not been paid; 60 dollars. Is there anything we can do about it? I do not necessarily need the money and do not want anyone else to send it to me. If anyone sends it to me and I see it in my transactions I will send it back. This would have to come from Louis. He said our verbal agreement was null and void; that's fine. I have a paypal and have provided one. There is no way for me to reach him. He blocks me when he feels like it and removes me from warcraft groups that some idiots have made him admin of.

The verbal agreement was that Smeagol could keep like 10-15 to buy his kid a gift for x-mas while the rest goes to Shawna. I don't care if half of that still stand and he sends me like $45. We can do that.

He's a good guy when he wants to be. End of story.

Important edit: It was a $200 dollar tournament. At least $100 was donated by daisycutter. So at least half of it wasn't even his to begin with. XcaL or Smeagol donated the other $100, I can't tell by Louis' language in his Tournament thread. Which means the $60 shouldn't even be hard to get?

Mods & Development / Server Update (reconnect to games when disced)

Would it be possible to include this or would the coding not work for this game:

To reconnect to a game if you were disconnected?

Support Requests / [resolved] Trying to Log In
« on: October 02, 2016, 04:04:10 PM »
It keeps saying Checking Versions and won't log in. All back up servers work. I checked the server status and it shows 39 people on so the server seems to be working fine. Is there something wrong with my IP?

Server.War2.ru / Saying bye!
« on: June 23, 2016, 10:59:16 AM »
Special thanks to ~Tora~, thumb$, Evil~Manowar, mousetopher, fat~buds, flea, )(Polaris)(, (all for being super awesome), the comp stomp crew (Quaaka, Sandman00 and others), several gower's for teaching me or badgering me to become a better player or were enjoyable to play with, ([RH]ino, swaz, ~Deathknight, SilentBlazze, SilentFarts, jessu001 and others) for being friendly, mentors and making the w2 community enjoyable.

This may come as a surprise, but I am officially quitting Warcraft 2 (again) probably for good. If I come back it will be because ~Tora~ hosts a tournament that my skills can relate to and/or a game or two once in a blue moon with good friends OR someone does something about hosting and player population problems. Some of you may be happy that I'm leaving, but I hope that I made a positive footprint in the game overall and to players while on my short stint back.

The reason I'm leaving:
1. The community overall is too inactive and there are too many strong personalities and egos. xxxSmeagolxxx, Kerby (or whatever his name is, the guy with a white poodle on his fb), Arrow (though recently has become more likable), dellam and others for different reasons give off poor vibes in our small community. What I mean by that is, I get harassed on facebook, in-game chat and content on the forums that is very off-putting. Seeing "I'm the best ever and I'm like 923423892398-1 against you" despite [you] having a losing overall record against me (in a custom game whoopee!!!) is super aggravating. This may seem like a crybaby fest, but I'm not the first to leave for reason(s) stated above. Dellam actively hacks - nothing done about it. Some people suck in real life and attempt to bully people like me on the server because they're lifelong criminals and have shitty at-home lives or depressed because they're on the verge of diabetes and suicide. The game is small as it is, why make our experience worse? I suppose it's impossible "to fix" personalities and I certainly don't want to push anyone from our small player pool out, but this game sucks because of people.

2. There is no proper integration for new players. I brought in over a dozen new players in 2 months and all of them quit. The game has enough components to keep people entertained, so we can't blame the game. Hosting issues, cliquey top tier players with passworded games and no proper greeting ceremony for new comers will only continue to degrade the server until were down to just bots and admin.

3. Admin overall are too idle. They pulled valuable players from East server so many years ago (like 2006) when it was still active and had hundreds/thousands of players and never had a proper server ready for we the people. iL is a one man team that doesn't even play the game or have the resources/time to properly fix the server. Moreover, people (myself included) have come up with plans yet none of us have taken action. This game is dead in the water (I apologize on the flip from my previous optimism and support of the game in previous forum posts) and it's because we are lazy or don't have the time. If we all value this nostalgia, why are we okay with status quo?

4. There are literally only 3 types of games. #1 gow ef (same old strats, same people owning), #2 chop (boring unless you have perfect timing with a generic versus neighbor strat, same people winning, same people losing), a few sprinkled in comp stomp and custom games that are less than ~10% of all games - which is a category I personally identify with - because they are less stressful and more fun. All of the potential custom new players are pushed out within minutes to days because of lack of said players or an egotistical top tier player that guffaws at newbs.

Thanks if you read this and appreciate my comments. We're all thinking it. Bye for now, hope to see some of you soon, but I'm uninstalling the game after this post. Thanks again to the folks who made this game memorable like times past!

Server.War2.ru / Maybe I'm stupid...
« on: June 05, 2016, 12:28:26 AM »
Okay don't respond to the subject title, it's a rhetorical statement, but...

What if anyone that has connections to any local papers or online news outlets and got a post/article out there about Warcraft 2 RU. Is this possible? Could someone do it? Might bring some attention to the game and a ton of new installs!

Server.War2.ru / Other ideas for patch updates
« on: December 13, 2015, 08:42:06 PM »
I don't know how farfetched these are but:

Highest Priority
1. Real auto-forwarding ports system to alleviate hosting issues. (Beating a dead horse on this one! It may be that we have to move server location to actually fix this issue, but it's one of the last barriers to entry to make this game playable).

2. Implement an auto ladder system that resets every X months (like every 6 months). Online reporting system of ladder would be great too. This could make the game more competitive and drive people to log on and play more ladder maps.

Medium Priority
1. Implement the new coloring fix/compatibility update into latest download of warcraft 2 combat edition. At the moment it is a separate download, but it should be included in the actual download so that we don't have 50 versions of the game out and about.

2. Make it mandatory to download the latest version of the game and make previous versions unplayable and unavailable. This would make everyone on the AH system. About 1/3 of the current players have an old version of the game so we don't really know if they are hacking or not. I'm sure some people are getting away with it. Anyways, so that we know we have the latest version of the game, we should be prompted to update the game if our current downloaded version is out of date.

3. Make icons a more regular and accessible to change thing. Make a system where you have to have a certain amount of wins to unlock a new level of icon and that the player can manually change his/her icon based on availability of unlocked icons. (Maybe this will prevent a lot of smurfing).
Example: If I have 10 wins, I can choose between whether I want to use the blank, 1 axe, 2 axe or 2 grey bars Icon)
0 wins = blank
1 win = 1 axe
2 win = 2 axe
10 wins = 2 grey bars
100 wins = Newb
150 wins = Grunt pic
200 wins = Archer pic
500 wins = Ogre pic
1000 wins = Profi
3000 wins = Master
5000 wins = King
These are just generic/arbitrary suggestions, but you get my drift. And then, if a clan leader pays to have an icon made/supported for all of his clan members, that can be done as well. (Maybe $20 first time fee for leader, $5 for each subsequent member after that).

4. Have a small turnover of current forum/server admin. It would be nice to have a fresh set of eyes looking at things. Tora has been doing a great job, but everyone else seems to hardly be around. (Blid trolls and smurfs - which is fairly unbecoming of a top admin) and Mouse doesn't like to play more than 1 game a week.

Low Priority
1. Giving this game a higher resolution/HD boost to make graphics appear to be clearer. Would probably take an artist and some breaking down of the coding, I don't really know, but that would be boss and it would definitely attract new blood!

2. Making AH appear in-game chat so that we don't have to search in browser to see who is hacking.

3. Giving players access to the Public Chat banner. If admin could sell a spot and have the banner rotate between 2-5 pictures, people could pay to advertise their personal banner (assuming it's appropriate) for X amount of time depending on what they pay. For example, if I want to promote my company, I could give iL 100 bucks to put my company's banner up for 2 months, and it could be on a 5 second rotation with the other banners. Or maybe Tora wants to promote his next tournament. Or iL wants to tell everyone about the new patch update. Or Yamon wants to tell the world about the new Warcraft movie or Swift wants to buy banner space to tell everyone how he is number 1. It's just a thought and a sustainable way for iL to pay for the monthly server bill.

Cool Factor but not necessarily doable
1. If we could implement a ping system (so i press G and click on a location on the map and an exclamation point shows up on the mini map for a half-second) and all of my partner(s)/allies see target location. This could really beef up teamwork especially if I'm getting attacked and my partner doesn't see it, or we want to coordinate attacks/rendezvous points. I don't know if this is actually possible but it would be super cool and I think add another element to game play.

2. Implement a new race. Like the Undead (in warcraft 3).

3. Find a way to make humans vs. orcs more even. Bloodlust > everything in the game in most instances.

Outlined Strategies that have proven to work that we need to re-double our efforts.
1. Crowd-fund to pay for below suggestions.
-Tk[as] was supposed to champion this and he probably got high and stopped. I never publicly put out my crowd-fund link because people (like him) said they only trust themselves to run treasury initiatives. I have my crowd-fund link but I will not advertise it until I get full support of the community and we have a unified effort, not factioned multiple mini efforts. I have messaged him a few times, but if I hear no response and people tend to agree with my priority list below, we can start raising money for Lance and iL.

2. Get this game onto a new server. Voobly was a good shot but a small stepping stone strategy. We need to think bigger named gamer pool, like Zone or Steam, not Voobly. Finding a way to do this would be great. But we need to find a way to do this with keeping everyone together. This game has been on Kahn, Engage, Heat, Zone, Kali and battle.net east/west/asia/europe and Combat Ru. At some points of this game's legendary history, multiple different types of servers were running at the same time. This splits the gamer pool and ultimately helps destroy the game.

3. Find initiatives that make current players want to recruit friends. This probably needs to be a monetary incentive based on an honor system or a system with an authenticity check list. We should probably try to create a English-based culture but definitely do not want to exclude anyone.

4. Advertise the crap out of this game to get old people back on and get these new 10 year olds that never new an awesome RTS like wc2 exists to download this game.

5. Continue to host tournaments. (Good job Tora, I don't know how long you can continue to keep this up).

6. Host an annual event that can attract 200+ people on the game at once. Some sort of reunion thing with cookies and soda.

7. Use twitch live streaming. I look at our warcraft stream page and it's always empty. No one is streaming! Hard to promote the game using free advertising if no one uses it!

Server.War2.ru / Where is the chop community?
« on: November 28, 2015, 08:33:37 AM »
I was never a chop player, but not so long in the distant past it seemed as though the player ratio went like thus:

40% GoW/pud players
40% Chop (Proper Farms)
20% Other Customs like paintball, archers, etc.

Now it seems more like:

60% GoW/pud players
30% Other Customs
10% Chop

I hold no love in my heart for chop players because I found the map repetitive and there were a few elites in there that were accused of hacking (like the N4L clan for awhile), but how did that community just disappear? At one point they were a sizable portion of the community, now I see it's a struggle to get 1s or 2s on chop.

I don't see this as alarming because I know literally nothing about the chop community... but an interesting observation nonetheless.

Flame Wars & Offtopic / Where does this go?
« on: November 28, 2015, 12:39:33 AM »
So.. Smeagol threatened to kill me if I ever visit Shawna/see his son via "slitting my throat" in a game.

More importantly, he played a rigged map versus me (he had more heroes on a custom map) and proceeded to win (obviously). I know this isn't "illegal" by any means, but bad mannered is bad mannered.

Someone please talk some sense into him? Can we take his PBALL Icon away?

Edit: This map is the 80 man tournament map by the way. - So be aware anyone that joins the tournament whoever is on the away team has worse units. He spawned with knights and more heroes.

Server.War2.ru / Incentive to Play Wc2?
« on: November 22, 2015, 11:51:21 AM »
So... The current W2 community, as small as it is, varies in nationality and socioeconomic class. Some people live meal to meal, while others own their own successful business. So, this idea would clearly more likely target the lower socioeconomic players of W2, but why don't we create a reward-2-play system? If we could set up a bank account with Burnt, Blid, or someone trustworthy, throw a few bucks in there, and then any new player that any of us attracts to the game and gets (for example) 100 games played, the person who found that player could then receive (for example) $10.00.

This would give me incentive to find 5 of my real life friends to play and help them reach 100 games on their stats so I could earn 50 bucks.

What do you guys think about this idea? The numbers are just arbitrary. I don't care if it's 50 games, 50 wins, 1,000 games or anything. I don't care about the $ amount either. Whatever is significant enough to matter to people.

In order to fight fraud we would have to check IPs played as well. Watcha think?

Edit: Or maybe said person can get a Recruiter Icon, and there can be different levels of Recruiter Icons/designs depending on how many people recruited to X level.

Flame Wars & Offtopic / Paintball Custom Tier System
« on: November 20, 2015, 09:14:16 PM »
There are always the arguments out there that pud players are always superior to custom players. In some if not most cases, that can be true. End of discussion.  If you're not used to building and pud-style Unit Control you're going to suck at GoW, PoS, Rose Petal etc. The learning curve for puds is a lot greater. Certainly true. But, most pud players don't play custom maps, and when they do, they usually lose to a high tier custom player at their particular maps. This is also certainly true.

Paintball and other customs like AO, Chop etc. offer unique styles of game play that don't always translate from pud skill to custom skill. Contrary to what pud players think, they would NOT be a tier 1 customs player after 1 or even 100 games. However, there are particular players that have lasted throughout the War 2 eras that make up a different case. Please allow me to explain.

For example on a 5 tier paintball custom system (In no particular order):

Tier 1
xXxSmeagolxXx
MaStA{hR}
QUICK{hR}
PiRaTe{hR}

Tier 2
Flea
cLeTo
xCaL
kilaz_e_mastafu
$killa$Lancelot
Proof-Dealer
Crash3r
8)Mikulz(8

Tier 3
Evil~MANOWAR
TDK-Seedy
~Tora~
WarBandit
LordCaptainCook

Tier 4
Shanona413
ElmoDoesDrugs
Jessu0001

Tier 5
Tolist
gabrielrsrs
or other noobs

This is just an example.

Now, if you take most pud players, they would IMMEDIATELY fall into a tier 3 or high tier 4 roll, and probably rise to a tier 2 position in a week or two. To reach tier 2 in a pud, it could likely take a year or more of hard dedication. But, let's take Swift (Kyle) for example. An anomaly to the equation. He immediately falls into a low tier 2 position without having played a game. His war2 IQ is off the charts. He will forever be known as a top 5 player, and depending on who you ask, he is in the 1st-2nd of all-time discussion. Now, after about 1 week of playing paintball customs, he could easily rise into a lower tier 1 and irregularly beat the likes of Smeagol, QUICK, or myself. And with more practice after a small amount of time, we could see a more consistent .500.

This is just my 2 cents in comparing the two. I think custom play is valuable and the skills are different. I want to pay a tribute to all sides. I wouldn't mind including more players on my relative paintball tier system, but I can't think of any more players at the moment.

Server.War2.ru / SOLUTION TO W2/SERVER FOUND HERE
« on: November 17, 2015, 03:37:44 PM »
Of all of the games I've had the pleasure of playing, W2 is by far the greatest. It is now a poor imitation of what it used to be... with defining qualities such as:
Small community of players that will likely only diminish as time goes on
Major server issues like hosting [port forwarding - which is not user friendly to the average person] and periodic lag
Some concern over hacks

I don't have the time to do this, but here is the solution. I spoke with Lance about what's the next step... because we are all bickering or talking to each other back and forth and no one has actually stepped up and done anything. He said that he has to outsource the work that's left to do on this game to a team of developers because there is no time for him to do this probono. He is a very busy man that has to put food on the table. He has intricate knowledge of the coding and of the problems, and could potentially minimize the workload for a developer team to about 200-270 man hours. On the low end, this project would probably cost 30,000, with it topping out at about 50,000+ US Dollars. Lance would be the lead guy on the job but he won't be doing this for profit.

The solution is: Raise the money.
Q. How do you raise 30,000+?
A. Someone start a GoFundMe crowd funding page and start advertising and spamming the fuck out of it. Go door to door, spam friends at school, bug co-workers, beg family members for early Christmas money or prostitute your body. The question is, who will champion this project and give the money to Lance?

PS:
ONE student of mine raised $112,000 for kids in Haiti via crowdfunding and selling everything she owned. She was 17 years old at the time and did it in 9 months
ANOTHER student of mine raised $27,000 for an organization named Mariposa which deals with youth development and she did so by spamming her GoFundMe page on facebook and at school and did it in 4 months.
I had ANOTHER student raise $16,000 and did it in about 6 months.

It is all possible. Now let's do it! Please reply below and/or begin this. We need 1 championleader for this project to direct all of us. If we all go about our business as usual nothing will get done. Someone designate themselves or someone else to lead this project. I would do it, and I'd be one of the more qualified peoples to do it, but I'm sorry I will not be able to. However, I would be willing to match some donations to get the ball rolling.

The money will solve a lot of undercurrent issues. It won't help me because I am temporarily in the Dominican Republic and the PvPgn server conflicts with most 3rd world country providers. BUT, it will help out all of us fools that are in the US, Canada and Europe. We get this shit fixed guys, and we can have a game where the sky is the limit. 200-10k people on at any given time. We just have to fix our basic problems.

Yamon says he could "get the money today". I doubt it, but it'd be nice to believe him. Someone pester him? We now have clear direction and a solution. Our only barrier is money. Lezz do it!

IF NOTHING HAS CHANGED BY JANUARY, I WILL BEGIN RAISING MONEY AND EXCLUDE ALL OF YOU WHEN I GET A TROPHY. <3

EDIT: YOU WILL BE ASKING FOR DONATIONS, THERE IS NO INVESTMENT. NOONE WILL BE GETTING PRIVATE SHARES OF THE W2 SERVER OR ANYTHING. THE MATH EQUATION HERE IS IF LANCE HAS 30k = PERFECT W2 GAME.
