an option in the setup to toggle the ddraw version would be great, like install by default but have a fallback that can be selected if it causes a problem. i know there's some concern about compatibility but ive recommended the version at en.war2.ru/ddraw dozens of times and never heard anyone come back saying they had a problem with it, whereas we know for a fact those substantial display glitches happen 100% of the time without it.

also a lot of interest in having the music & campaign briefings available :thumbsup:

& also adding in some new map packs like qanon said!

i do like the initiative to add new maps to the ladder if they're getting played enough, seems like all that's needed is a quick once over to make sure any candidate isn't a complete dog shit map :D strata has made a ton of nice looking maps & spend a lot of time active on the server playing them, i support giving them some recognition on the ladder!

So.. The question is: is he willing to give you sysadmin so we can get the ball rolling on any of these updates (assuming you are comfortable with that)

And if he isnt willing.. Can we agree as a community that it's time to switch to a server with more support (yours)

i mean sysadmin in terms of the role he fills, not in terms of access. the rest of us don't have the knowledge to do the things that iL does.

I would have been looking for someone capable to write the script already, but I never got the impression iL was going to trust the source and implement it.. I don't see why we can't hire a professional. It can't be crazy expensive I wouldn't think
pvpgn is very easy to set up, any developer could create a test server to implement a proof of concept for a fix & then i'm sure iL would be on board with working with them to somehow integrate it into the main server. war2.me is also completely available to anyone who wants to use it for such a purpose, though it's using a much out of date version of pvpgn that would need to be updated anyway for best results so again probably easier to just set up a new dev server.

It was recently brought to my attention that il was under the impression I deleted some Forum posts before I left. I have zero recollection of that. Is he confusing me with somebody else or is there something I'm just not remembering?
yeah it was you, it was done by deleting a forum account which deletes all its associated posts.

That will be your signature move: organizing threads on a forum with 15 active users.. That are really only active when myself, or someone like myself start to stir the pot. Otherwise there's not much taking place here.

No doubt the server doesn't NEED another admin.. but I always felt like I was the go-to for most basic issues.. Just a face always willing to drop everything to either fix the issue or figure out how to fix it. People seemed to appreciate that. Always logged on as admin so people recognized it.

That's all giving me admin would be... Just another tool in the tool box that served a slightly different purpose.

Again I appreciate the support everybody. I'm not 100% sure why ily is pushing it so hard. I think I would have been more beneficial a year or two ago. I think I could have assisted in maintaining users. It's a lot more difficult to rebuild than maintain.

I know you and others don't seem to agree with it but I look at t admin as a job. If it's not my responsibility I don't take the initiative. So I haven't really been taking any steps to build or maintain the user base.
I brought up firewall hole punching to fix our hosting issue a year or so ago and nothing has been done about that. I don't see how giving me admin would further that progress at all. And if we can't get a decent fix to hosting spending the time and energy to rebuild the community seems a little bit pointless anyway
i agree with you there, without the server being actively updated/improved there's not much point in trying to recruit/retain new players. the new generations of players expect everything to work perfectly out of the box and as time passes fewer & fewer people will be willing to jump through the hoops required just to log on & play. i wish i could contribute in this area but it's just beyond my expertise, iL is the only real sysadmin among all the admins so without his involvement there's not much the rest of us can do to implement server improvements. :(

1. Tk has said many times that he would like to be admin again. It is not at his behest that we make this post, it is at ilyich's.
2. Tk has experience being an admin and knows the role and responsibilities of the admin.

We clan [as] and i am sure lots of people from all arround the world want to say that we would like to have tk[as] as an admin on our server. He is a long time player known by almost everyone on the server. He did lots of good things for our game and server. We think that it is a great idea and that he will help a lot our comunity. He loves war2, trained lots of people, is a good organisator/leader and a nice person. If there are any other people who think like us let us know, if for any reaoson you think that it is a bad idea let us know why. Would be very nice not to have any ,,stupid'' accusation and personal attacks. Let`s try to have an repsectfull topic even if we all know our comunity.
can you list some examples of what he will do to help the community? i wouldn't have a problem with tk becoming an admin if he's going to serve some purpose, but if it's purely to "recognize past achievements" and all he'll be doing is wearing the icon then i oppose. (this is my thinking for any potential candidate, not just tk.)

in general i tend to think about the question of promoting someone to admin like:

1. do we need more admins? is there currently some demonstrable void that having another admin will fill?

2. is the candidate already actively contributing in some way, and will becoming an admin somehow enhance those contributions? in tk's case it always seems to be like "i will do x, y & z to help the server, IF i become admin" but my stance is that such contributions should lead & the admin role should follow, not vice versa. tora, kagan & I are the last 3 to become admin & we all made contributions on our own before we got promoted.

one may argue that tk has already done some good things in the past, but having this requirement that someone be actively contributing also helps to show that they will continue to do so after becoming an admin, rather than it just being some kind of honorary title

Keyboard with all of the hotkeys organized specifically for War 2. I'm not sure if he uses double-click or not but I imagine so

I mean you can already hotkey buildings and unit groups within War2 so are you saying like he has keys programmed to do macros like 1p2p3p?

where all the hotkeys are the same for every unit/building & arranged in a 3x3 grid that matches the keyboard layout

Il brought over (from vpn) / created the master tag for me exclusively, then burnt fought reluctantly to change that.

Not il, but Ldir. And you was one of three masters. But you definitely was the best one.
The first master was MasterKSA. He got this tag in 2004, when war2.ru was not known outside a small company. Here is the history page with KSA's master certificate (at the bottom):

Later, war2.ru became more popular, and a lot of people with good skills joined this server. In 2005 you beat MasterKSA 6-1 and got the "master tag" from Ldir. About the same time Gimli has beaten all the Russian players (including MasterKSA), and got the "master tag" too. So, only three players have historical "master tags" given by Ldir: you, Gimli and MasterKSA.
I even have somewhere replays of your competition with MasterKSA, if you want I'll try to find them.

legality is just as questionable as any other modification like double click or changing hotkey configuration, they all simplify/offload some aspect of gameplay that the player must ordinarily account for themself and thus create an unfair edge for those using it over those not.

it can be interesting to explore the potential of the revised gameplay parameters though (ironically the same argument that usa-archer made for posting hacks on his website, haha. hacks are just unsanctioned mods) -- the most important thing is ensuring that all players in a matchup understand & agree to the parameters up front but we can see that this is already not happening especially in the increasingly common case of modded hotkeys, and people using the double click without disclosing it, etc. at least if people want to play in matchups that prohibit the timer it can be caught in a ss, though of course the next step would be people creating ways to add a timer that can be toggled w/ a hotkey (this can probably already be cobbled together w/ various freely available apps pretty easily without needing some war2-specific tool)

in reality the kind of people who care about playing on an even field will make the effort to do so, and those who don't won't, and there isn't much we can do from a moderation perspective without better enforcement technology. probably most people won't care about using a timer & the ones who are skilled enough for it to make a difference in their playing won't want to play on unfair terms.
