I think you should do something with that as soon as 2 people have the same feeling about clickable. It makes people sad when they have instinct to click something and see it's not clickable.Especially as the next page contains the same design for clickable buttons.

Ah, you're absolutely right on that last point. Okay, I'll mess with it. They're probably going away unfortunately since I just can't justify a huge prominent section of links in the middle of the page, directing people away from the desired action. Unless anyone can give feedback on a similar layout that looks less button-y? e.g.

(None of those are clickable.) I see this style of icon + text blurb often in modern design and personally don't usually interpret them as being buttons. Maybe it's a generational difference in perception? :P

I think we don't need some custom design, but we can easily find some different theme for smf.The main problem is compatibility with some cutomization we use for the forum. And another problem is "we fear changes", as mousey said and i agree with her. This forum looks as similar as possible to warcraft occult, some people like that design, some - want to see the new one.I think could be a good idea to make a poll about redesign the forum?

Could even let people go search themes and submit any free, compatible ones they'd like added, then have a vote on which one to add. I still don't think it's a priority atm, but if you want to oversee & implement the idea then by all means.

I like the new site, much more functional than the old one. Did you decide to take out the users online on the side or will this be coming back? I think this is important for new people coming to the site to see that the game is active. Even just something simple like Users Online, don't think listing all the players is necessary.
It still exists on the inner pages that have a sidebar. I agree it's important to have on the homepage, just haven't figured out where to work it into the new layout. Maybe in the nav menu with the number of online users like you said, and the option of showing the full list on click.

Users Online button that could take you to the server.war2.ru/status page would be pretty cool
Oh yeah, I was thinking of that as well. Maybe embed that directly into a page of the site and link it from one of the menus? Not sure yet.

Fixed, thanks. And yeah, iL thought they should be clickable too. The entire icon section is still kind of up in the air; I may make them clickable, or restyle them to look less like buttons, or remove them entirely. The original idea behind them was to be purely informational since you don't want to redirect new visitors to all these satellite sites right off the bat, so it's just give them an overview and incentive to click the buttons leading to the war2combat download.

Website & Forum Discussion / Re: Add a calendar.
« on: March 30, 2015, 11:08:44 PM »
Embedding the calendar into the forum isn't a problem at all, I didn't mean to imply that it was, I just haven't gotten to it yet. Pretty sure it can be on its own stand-alone page, like the arcade. Got it set up on the site here: http://en.war2.ru/upcoming-events/

There's an (old) existing plugin for syncing SMF calendar to Gcal which could be a nice solution, but it'd need testing & possibly updating before we could implement it. If it does work, then calendar-posting priviledges can be granted to certain users that would benefit from them (like people who want to host tournies). All events can be added via the forum and they'll automatically pushed to Gcal, which in turn is embedded to the website. Simple, effective & nonredundant. For now though, we can just embed the Gcal in both locations.

Same site, just made some significant updates. Live now, everyone go fawn.

Can you do a new desing for the forum now, because i dont know how much times my eyes gonna stand this white forum. Please, thank you!

Forum redesign just isn't a priority I'm afraid, it'd be a ton of work on its own + the fact it's a platform I'm unfamiliar with theming. It's also fundamentally eye candy, offering no substantial benefits or improvement. And, when the new forum was started the general consensus was that a simple, plain theme was preferred to a heavily customized one.

I think Flea plays this kind of map? Someone holler at him if they see him online and tell him to come register.

Thanks guys! I'll get them added to the slideshow tomorrow.

And damn Burnt, so many! Any way you can zip those and send via Dropbox? (Sorry if you went to any trouble to embed them here.) There's no way I can fit them all on the home page, but yes, would like to set up some sort of larger nostalgia gallery at some point, maybe on the community page. I recognize a lot of those from the old site. c:

er, uhm, thanks mate. xD

Website & Forum Discussion / Re: KARMA STILL EXISTS!!!
« on: March 30, 2015, 08:03:47 AM »
Just let it go blid, even when you prove them wrong their defense is to pretend you didn't. Nothing you can do about that, so no point in fueling their mania into these multi-page flame wars. They've clearly got way too much time on their hands and will always have yet another snarky comment to throw into any argument. The sane, reasonable people here need to stay focused on the point of the forum, which is wc2 & wc2-related discussion. These farcical admin-antagonizing antics aren't worth anyone's time, and if they continue to the extent that they become spam they'll be moderated accordingly.

Karma still exists, it's just on a per-post basis now to cut back on all the "hahahhahaha look at your -293480 karma" bullshit.

As i said before mousey won't delete shit because it would be her admitting that there are faults in her little perfect system.

Sent from my Motorola DynaTAC 8000X

Thinking about deleting tapatalk right now as a matter of fact.

He does, but not the right to spam the forum with it.

Going to be featuring some screenshots on the home page of the website, and I'd like a variety that shows both races, different maps, land/sea/air, etc. Share any interesting ones you've taken over the years!

Upload here or to http://ss.war2.ru (prefer .pcx or .png format to avoid quality loss)

Mods & Development / Re: WarCraft II Event Calendar Discussion
« on: March 29, 2015, 08:34:35 AM »
However, I would also like to add other dates relevant to War2's history like the anniversary of the game release or anniversary of this server.  I will try to add what I can from my own research but I thought I would create this thread to see if there are any special dates that any members of the community feel should be added to this calendar.

Good thought! Some generic dates would be release of WC, WC2, expansion pack, Kali, BNE. Could also include info related to some of the major fan contributions, like the Occult, Kpuds, etc. There's probably others but I didn't start playing 'til '04, I think most of the boom was before that. Burnt or iL might have a launch date for war2.ru. The WC2 Festival is an important entry too; I know it's in July each year but the specific date probably varies, so that one may have to be added manually. Have you talked with Burnt yet about the calendar in general?

A great way to make the calendar idea more useful & practical would be to delegate the ability to add events to the users that might use it, like USA-Archer who's running his own tournies. The built-in SMF calendar would be great for that but embed options are pretty limited. If a two way sync could be set up between SMF calendar and GCal that'd be perfect, but it'd take some fancy coding if it's even possible.

A link to the polling board could even be added to the website urging players to participate in voting.  I'm not sure how much work is involved in doing this, but for more exposure, I'm sure there's a way to add a "Latest Poll: Title of Poll" feature in the welcome message for the War2Bne channel.

Probably doable, but that's iL's domain. Embedding a poll into the website is definitely possible and something I can do; probably have to hand-pick relevant polls by ID for that, like the client vote.

iL will look into it when he has some time, he's been pretty busy with real life lately.

RaidCall looks like a nice alternative. Does it have some kind of embeddable widget that shows number of online users in the group?
