Cartography & Custom Maps / Re: Map series: Campaign Hard Mode
« on: May 20, 2016, 09:39:02 AM »
@Warchief Lightbringer-:

Yeah, ofcourse. Just put it in maps section and play in custom game. Though, just a reminder, there are no triggers so every map is by default set to destroy all your enemies. So, you just have to pretend that you won when you reach the satisfactory conditions of the original missions :P

@Winchester:

That sounds like a cool idea. I wouldn't implement it in this particular map series though. But I will definitely start working on it, as another map series. But, again... Since there is a lack of triggers, they will all just be "eliminate your enemies" maps again, but you can just pretend that you've won when you and your friend meets the satisfactory conditions of original mission.
But there's that problem, I have no idea how rescue passive works when you are playing together with another human. If you, or anyone else tells me what happens in that situation, I might have a better idea about how to implement things in maps.

Cartography & Custom Maps / Map series: Campaign Hard Mode
« on: May 20, 2016, 04:26:39 AM »
Hello everyone, I've started a new project recently. I'm modifying the missions that I've extracted from war2dat.mpq (credit goes to tupac for telling me how to extract them some months ago). Since warcraft 2 didn't have a difficulty option, the idea is to modify the maps in a way that it certainly makes it more difficult to finish them compared to how they normally are. These modifications will include: adding more enemy factions and units in the maps, altering the terrain and resources, changing mission objectives. And it also includes ever so slightly changes to unit stats to make human vs. orc slightly more balanced. (if you do not like it, I can revert it back)
I've just recently started today and only modified the first 3 maps from Human Beyond The Dark Portal campaign. So the work is still beta. But I would like you to test and critisize the changes, and tell me how it is, so I'm putting these 3 maps here anyways.

Well since we don't have a trigger editor yet, we will have to obviously play them through custom game, and when I release the full version I will include a text file to mention mission objectives as well. But who knows maybe that could change sometime in the future *winks at tupac lol*

Unit changes (humans only): Added +10 base hp, +1 base armor, +1 base damage and +1 piercing damage to Paladins. (not applied to knights)
Added +1 base armor, +1 attack range, +1 base damage and +1 piercing damage to Rangers. (not applied to archers)

I will be including the beta as attachment to this post. Please try it out and tell me about what you think. Btw, sorry if a project like this had been posted in these forums before x'D

The objectives in all first 3 missions are the same with their original counterparts. (mission 1: all heroes survive and bring them to circle of power , mission 2: destroy all enemy forces and danath must survive , mission 3: destroy all strongholds and fortresses and bring turalyon to the circle of power)

Update: Added 3 more missions, and tweaked the previous 3. All of which retain the same mission objective as the originals did.
(Mission 4: erect a castle to protect the portal, destroy all enemy forces
Mission 5: Build three shipyards, destroy all orcish shipyards
Mission 6: Turalyon and Danath must return to the Circle of Power after destroying Bleeding Hollow (orange) )

Go, give them hell.

Why have 7 or 10? Why not have 8.1 instead? I don't see the point to that argument lmao.

49
Nah I have windows 8.1, but I've already found a way to record the game anyways :p

Here, ignore the different language, I'm just doing the let's play in my own language lol. I posted this one since it's the shortest one, and it consists of an ogre running through the map blazing, so it should be easier to see if there is choppiness :D Actually I spot the choppiness of the video even from the mission briefing at the start, looking at the scrolling down texts, lol.

General Discussion / W!Zone?
« on: May 15, 2016, 08:04:51 PM »
While I was just doing a research through net, I've read on wikipedia that there used to be 4 more official expansions (which were authorized by Blizzard) for Warcraft 2. Namely, "W!Zone" , "W!Zone 2: Retribution" , "The Next 70 Levels" and "Next 350 Levels". Do anyone know anything about these ones? Did anyone play? Is it really worth to get or something? I really kinda wish that if only we could be able to download those expansions from war2.ru as well, since they were authorized by blizzard :(

I just checked the tast manager now, while warcraft II is running and obs is recording at the same time. Warcraft is using around 40% CPU while OBS is using around 10%. Is that normal? Is obs using too much or too little? And is warcraft itself using too much? I'm gonna do the steps you said according to your opinion.

Btw, I just wanna make it clear, that the game itself is not laggy/choppy when I'm playing, it's pretty normal, but the resulting recorded video is the one that looks choppy for some reason. Just wanted to say it again in case if there was misunderstanding lol

Edit: I forgot mentioning, I tested running SC with the exact setup, and it works :'3 But, the same choppy video problem appears to be existent while watching the starcraft video as well.

54
Though I have a little bit of a problem. The recorded videos look unfortunately a bit choppy, they are like, running less than 30 fps even though that was not the case on my screen.

55
Thank you very much, if it weren't for you, I was thinking of wasting money for bandicamp. Btw, can I use the same way for recording starcraft broodwar as well? Because I know there is something called chaoslauncher to make the game windowed mode, but the normal windowed mode is too tiny for me to play in, and the 2x mode is too large that the top and bottom of the screen doesn't even fit. I hope I could use this method to record starcraft and any other retro games as well.

Btw, there was this written in the link that you've sent:
"Select “Video” and enter 640×480 as the resolution. Note that your stream will be cut off when streaming the desktop, but when streaming Warcraft 2 it’ll be perfect. (For Windows 8 & 10 do NOT change the resolution – use the default in OBS.)"
Even though I use windows 8.1, I had to set the resolution as 640x480, or else there were white bars at right and below edges of the screen when I played my finished record. Weird.

That's what I'm asking. For campaign let's plays and such. Lately, I've downloaded that warvideo thingy, and tried it out. But it's output was a file type named ".dk2", which I have no idea about how to open. Plus it seems warvideo recordings doesn't include any audio from the game, that's what I've heard from a bit of searching around. So that's why I'm asking this. I tried open broadcaster software, but it just doesn't even detect old games like warcraft 2 or starcraft broodwar or ZDoom, neither in game capture or window capture. I tried monitor capturing warcraft 2, it seemed it works at the first glance, but when I finish recording, the outcoming video is very laggy even though it was not while I was playing on my screen.

Yes, I did actually play the map, it was tides of darkness human 1st mission, I set it as map settings, I played it until I got victory. I built 4 farms and 1 barracks but that didn't satisfy the victory conditions like I said. I killed 4 grunts on the tiny map, then I got victory.

Hmm, I don't know how to implement those numbers that you've presented, into a map/game/campaign. But it looks interesting, and I would like to know

I just tried playing a campaign map on war2.ru, and I set it to map settings as well. It still didn't work, the map still requires you to destroy all enemies to win. I wish it worked like it does in broodwar.

@tupac, yeah, I can play it as a regular map, on custom game. But as I said, the original mission objectives don't exist that way, they become "destroy your enemy".
