Title: Newcomer Question About Download
Post by: louspowels on December 25, 2014, 05:40:14 AM
Hello All,

As this is an established community I'm sure this is more of a user-side issue, but my anti-virus program automatically flags and removes all files when I download them from the server (v3.15). Malwarebytes also doesn't fancy the program. Can someone enlighten me as to why this may be? I'd love to install and play but I have a good relationship with my anti-virus and malware programs.

Cheers :-[

Disable it/add exception, false positive

Absolutely all the files? Problem should be with wppatch.exe only, maybe war2nocdloader.exe also.
These files have anti-debug protection, so that can cause false positives with some antivirus software.
I know about norton false positive against wppatch.exe.

Let me know you have more problems or just attach the picture with your problem to the forum message.

P.S: of course, there wasn't any malware code inside the any of the combat application.

I've been playing for years with the war2 combat version and never had any issues.  The only problem I had is that my credit card has been fraudulently used 18x but I think it has nothing to do with war2combat.  JK  No probs and welcome to war2!

I think these temporary problems have reason of antivirus updates. Just wait, and your antivirus can show false positive. Wait some more, and that false positive will gone. Or return back.

There's nothing changed in combat for years.

Cant always follow antivirus software to the letter, gotta wise up and identify exceptions. Antivirus are a tool to use, not a computer manual.

p.s, Even google chrome detects 3.15 as harmful and requires users override to download it

If im not mistaken and if I recall correctly the 3.10 version downloads just fine.

no wtf

First, that picture you posted is from internet explorer, not chrome, so you're already in the wrong direction.

I am talking about GOGGLE CHROME, which is the browser 90% of the people use.

When you start the download with goggle chrome, the download process starts and you actually see the progress as it downloads.
However when you reach to 100%. The download button of war2combat turns red and displays a message saying the file is pottentially unsafe and the default option to select is to reject the download, you have to click the dropdownmenu and select Ignore warning and download. its pretty discouraging message when your fav browser pops up with this and chrome itself rarely detects other files as risk.

Cant add a screenshot cuz I already added the exception to chrome. But i think I gave a good enough explanation of the issue.

This has been thoroughly discussed in the old occult forums many times and there are many threads about it, some including screenshots
If you have the backup go do a search there.

dunno bout firefox but in chrome it is more discouraging the way it says it. here i found a pic on the net

it doesnt have a multiple choice to choose from ( at first sight anyways)
just says is malicius and click dismiss.
you click the dropdownmenu then select, save to computer anyway or something like that.

Hm, i installed chrome just before my previous message, tried that and didn't get this error.
Here's what i get:

Where do you download combat from? Server main page? ftp.war2.ru? Or anywhere else?
Title: Re: Newcomer Question About Download
Post by: SmurfKinG on December 28, 2014, 04:01:13 PM
you probably got the error long ago and override it. once you do that its added to chrome exceptions

i don't have another computer to try this out at the moment.
I highly doubt goggle chrome have changed and labelled war2combat safe now, its a possiblity but doubt it.

looks like goggle chrome no longer labels it at malicious
cool
i just made a new user account and downloaded from there and also didnt get the error.
last time I remember it did show the unsafe message was just about 2 months ago.
I remember cuz thats when  i bought a new laptop :P

Anyway, let me know (including screenshots) antivirus warnings for any parts of combat or any other war2 software.

What i know is norton avtivirus warning against WPpatch.exe.
I'll think about to remove WPpatch.exe from next combat version or to change it to anything else.

I've picked up on that as well, he always said that on the occult forums too.

On topic though, I believe my windows 7 laptop had this issue on chrome, but my windows 8 laptop didn't. So it seems pretty random at times with which pc this message saying war2combat is malicious will pop up on.

1 of my friends that I got to download the game also ran into this issue, and was a bit worried to install the game because of it, to which I directed her to some old occult posts saying that it's okay to run.

iL, Ganz tried and it didnt warn anything

and, I made a new user in control panel, logged onto that user and tried to download (which technically is the same as if it was another computer) and also didnt get a warning. thats 3.

i think it's safe to say goggle chrome no longer has war2combat on its malicious software list

btw. whats war2combat400.exe on the ftp?
whats new?

The easiest way to get around chrome's malware detection is to use SSL or FTP links rather than http links.

That's fully localized russian version only, sorry for that. It's not new, release date was 31.12.2008. War2.ru build of war2.

I plan to release 4.01, english version soon, i'll announce that when it will be ready.

Using ftp already. Where to get combat instead of ftp?
Not sure if we really need SSL, do we? Too lazy to make SSL-certificate yearly. I can of course, but why?
Title: Re: Newcomer Question About Download

SSL is Google's way of "validating" that you are a real person and not some malware company.  If you change the link from http to https,  you'll notice that chrome no longer thinks the link is "suspicious".  It's absolutely retarded and proves nothing,  but Google forces it anyway.  IDK why,  but thats the way it is.  It's well documented and people have tried suing Google for Slander because of it.

4.01 was almost ready several months ago, but i stopped it from releasing after i see new ddraw.dll is not wokring. There's nothing new to release now, that's why i stopped it. I'll try to make something new and then release 4.01.
Yes, i hope to release upnp soon and include it to the new combat.
