If I go on a 3 years long break and play an active spb I'll still 10-0 him

ST get on and play!

I'm planning to be active for the next few days/weeks and throughout the period I'd like to challenge as many master tier players as possible.
I started playing today and I think I need another 2-3 days of warming up to confidently take down my first opponents.

I'd like to set up matches in an increasingly difficult (for me) order.

Alf-Attack
Ripe[Eur0]
Medivh
BHC-Jesk
(Quite sure I can take them on without much of a problem starting from next week Tuesday.)

Player
u8t3io3p
(I'm very uncomfortable with playing Player. u8 has a great understanding of the game but I think after I'm warmed up speed will carry me through. Too bad I don't seem them play nowadays.)

Startale
(I've had a hard time with ST, because I'm inexperienced and have not seen anyone play alike him except for a lazy Swift before my 2 years break. However I believe I'm close to understanding his playstyle and will manage to figure out the way to win.)

Shotgun
(Even when rusty he is easily my toughest opponent and has always been aside from Swift. I need several games before I'll start to match him and later beat him.)

Viruz (if he comes back)
(Imo I match up very well with Viruz and playing him are my favorite and by far the most exhausting games. Once I get on fire I hope we'll make our games a sight to see.)

Then finally Swift.
(Personally I think he is the hardest player to beat. Given that I get my practice in the near future, I hope to become able to give him a challenge that he has not had in a long time. )

I prefer old gow ef (best of as many games as you can take) because I'm yet to master it, but if any of you want, we can make it an official master tag challenge or try different maps.

During most of the coming days, I'll try to get on around 4-5pm PST and stay on until there are good games left. If any of the mentioned players are down for matches, please let me know here or online. If you'd like to to play but at a different time I'm also open (Possibly Sg, Eu players). We could also provide Burnt with some quality content if we set up a serious series in advance or if he's around.

Players like Lux, Yamon, Knitt etc... are also welcome for some duels.

As a secondary objective, I want to stop sucking at 2s and maybe learn about other maps.

I hope some great players will derust and revive interest in competition soon, or perhaps weeks before the 1s tourney in July.

I've heard many people think I'm hacking for some reason. You are welcome to ask for warvids as it's on most of the time.

Lastly I'm going to make a new name after I'm ready to maintain a winning record vs most of the best players. I've been learning very quickly and I think I can do this (not sure how soon). Hopefully you'll give me the practice I need for the next level!

We'll do something about it when I have enough time.
I think fast powering is the best option because every starting spot is easily defended, but at the same time it is difficult to get up to 3 or more bases. Of course I'd have to try some strategies with good players to be certain.

Regarding the narrow path at 10, one intuitive solution is to make the path possible to block with a farm and at the same time make it possible to choke. Alternatively, you can also think of opening up different tactics, strategies. One comment is that, if someone starts at 10, he'll chop towards the narrow path in mid game so the pathing issue will be solved in that scenario.

Also I'd like to add that I think from a 1s perspective.

About the mine at s6, you could replace the lake with wood (close from the top) and make it possible to mine s6 from either down-right or down-left or both positions and see how it works out.

I could analyze every little spot on the map, but I prefer to do so after it's more prepared.

I checked the map, and currently it offers less options than either versions of gow. I can't really see any thought process behind the design choices aside from creating chances to take down newbies with cats, towers and farms.
You want to add diversity, but by far the best strategy is to just power on this. After powering, try to stay even or get the upper hand and take ONE 60k exp. Don't spread out, focus on unit control, favor ogres over dks unless your opponent is completely defensive. 99% of games will be decided by then unless spb is involved.

Gow is not just about getting towered or being able to wall-in. You need a far better understanding even about basic early-mid game.

A few of many examples to think of for starters:
-The s3 area will essentially become a dead zone by the time players have to expand. The reasons for that are efficient, quick farm blocks and dks from behind s3.
-I know what possible tactics you wanted to open up with the tiny path below the entrance of 10 but don't go with such a narrow path. Think of another option.
-The lake above s6 is going to cause pathing issues. Also due to the mine's position it will be nearly impossible to hold the exp or to get gold. (think of gold flows, hall positions, ogres running to defend, possible building blocks).
-Lakes are pretty but they waste a lot of space.
-Carefully plan out possible, optimal building placement choices, chop locations for every starting location.

Perhaps something good could come out of it eventually, since the people who made gow at the dawn of time were clueless.

I'd be down to play a new gow style map. The concepts and balance should be fine tuned and agreed upon by most players with a good understanding of the game. It will also need to be featured in some way (youtube, tournies, hosts). If the community shows interest I'd like to help to make it happen!

Didn't know I have to take a 2s seriously after like 10 days break! Good job on owning my 3 hall tho! I'm quite surprised you somehow managed to 1v2 me when I was playing at -130 apm. I logged off cause currently I'm unable to get on for more than a couple of hours a week. I hope that's not gonna change... but if it does! ;p

I'll be busy for a while. :)
Probably at the end of December or January I can be active and get on the next level.
We'll see if we both happen to get on to the same time until that, but I doubt it.

Oh nice. Long ago I was trying to do the same for so long but if I edited a preset ai and set it to be used on a map, then the comp would just go standard land attack ai. Also didn't work if I made one from scratch. I'm curious how you figured it out!

I'm pretty sure there was a campaign map where mages would use transports. Did you just change the ai to a preset one from the campaigns or managed to create one?

I dunno, Nerz at the peak of his game was amazing. Swift didn't start playing until most people were on a downward spiral or had already left and came back. I remember when I first came on RU I had no idea who he was.

Also I would not be surprised at all if PB smurfed as Wlkr.  8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
If Burnt uploads the videos and you see them, you'll consider that to be far beyond impossible! :)

Changes (if any) should be very minimal and slowly introduced to the real game, but I think it's far too late for balance changes and nearly no one would be happy about them.
As for customs this would create more variability and newbies would have a lot of fun with it. Although I also wouldn't want to see more newb maps!

« on: December 06, 2016, 02:28:40 AM »
I assume peak in their primes because that is just crazy but not beyond imagination. Another reason is that I use hotkey bindings which are not taken into account. For example if you select 9 ogres with mouse, your apm is increased by 9, but if you do it with hotkeys there is no change. I doubt szwagier is THAT slow and it does not mean HALF of my actions are not necessary, it means that when we played a month ago I was rusty and/or often did not get to late game! Also my speed is countered by his experience. Wonder how we would match now. I'm planning to play a lot in January.

I didn't mean you accused someone of mapping, I meant you can read/predict enemy movements.
I also don't think 11 needs to be dk'd as it won't achieve too much.
S5/S3 should be hard to dk for the same reason as 11 is given that you can set up properly.
9/11 should also be prepared for potential breaks where as 4/5 can be open or scout outrushes in time.
Sadly I don't get many chances to practice these scenarios with evenly skilled or better players, but I really do not think 9/11 just outright wins against a counter dual.
I don't think I'm *extremely* fast... I barely went up to 280 apm vs "Dethwlkr" whoever he is, (plays like a more aggressive Viruz) yet I was rested, prepared, and trying very hard. The real legends used to go above 500 if I'm not mistaken! :)
