Hi there,

Finally got all these games casted and compiled. Casted by khb and myself. The first game was already posted with a VLOG so you can skip to about 14:30 to start at the 2nd game. 2nd game has khb low audio but fixed it after that.

Just wanted to get this out for you all without any more delay. Hope you enjoy!

I'd be available for Design & specification support if desired.

The only issue with a tier system, the same issue that has always existed is nobody ever agrees on them.

Pretty much all of us can fluctuate 2-3 tiers depending on activity.. and it's very common to see a person in tier 3 lose consistently in tier 4 or 5.. because the tier 3 person is good at 1 style, and the tier 4 or 5 knows how to break that style consistently.. but maybe doesnt do good against another style.

And very few of us consistently play 1s any more. So a lot of our idea of skill is based on how we do in team games.

Absolutely. The point isn't to be perfect, but to get people engaged. The more people argue about what the Tiers SHOULD be, the more mindshare they have in war2. Good.

The proposal is basically applying the rating system from ladder to all games, with one of the major challenges being working in an adjustable team-format (perhaps limited to TvB games). It would be imperfect, but if we create an algorithm with the intention of tuning/dialing it in, everyone can debate how it should be adjusted and then tuning passes could be done.

I like that thread that listed "Tiered" Player Lists. I.e. Tier 1 was Viruz, Scrubbo, etc. One of the unique things about war2 is that there are so few players, you can actually get away with listing out the names. That's also one of the draws that keeps us here - we know who eachother are, we aren't lost in anonymity as we are in other games.

If there were an integrated Tier system into the server, that might be a fun social system to keep people interested in moving up the Tier list, as well as knowing who was in and around their Tier. We might consider implementing an under the hood ELO/Rating system, active in all games, that considered the Players on each team and calculate an elo adjustment based on the result. This way, a Top Tier player allying a lower tier player would balance out for elo projection / calculation.

Potentially alot of work, particularly in determining teams. If the code for the existing ladder rating could be leveraged that would be a fine start. Then we would only need a server syntax to list the Tier groups and names, and it could be automatically run when connecting to server so every player is reminded of it.

Personally, I would find this interesting and motivating both to see my own skill in relation, but also understand where everyone else sits on the Skill ladder. This is very much embedded in how we think about our community and construct pickups, and could appeal to players of all skill levels. New Players would have paced goals to attain up the tier tree, and existing Players would be more interested and invested in improving themselves in a more officially present system. The Tiers could then be used to facilitate or legitimize entry into tournaments of Players only in the same Tier or near-Tier groups.

Server.War2.ru / Top 100 Dumbest Games: Gameplay & Mumbling

I've taken some recent interest in the casting / commentary side of things lately. I'm not sure what I will do with it if anything, but I do seem to find enjoyment in it.

KHB and I are in different time zones so it can be tough to get the dualcast schedule going on a consistent basis, but I did hop on last night and get a couple games solo. Here I'm trying out what happens if I post one of the gameplays. I'm not active enough to stream but I can post some gameplays here and there if anyone gives a h00t.

3 way FFA with me as humans, with TWN-Cancel and some other dude who wasn't very good. Cutting edge entertainment for sure (/s). I played another game before this that I reference at the beginning but figured this one was the better of the two and long enough on its own. Not a sober or a top tier gameplay, but perhaps entertaining, enjoy! (?)

Server.War2.ru / 2v2 Tournament Cast: Quarterfinals and Semi-Finals
« on: June 16, 2021, 12:30:24 PM »
Hello,

We now have some complete series of casted games to post up from the June 5th 2v2 tournament. KHB and myself are casting the semi-finals, and I did a solo-cast on the Quarterfinals. The following series are now available:

Quarterfinals: khb & Shotgun VS spb- & Ragner
*Note: If you watched the VLOG with game 1 posted earlier, skip to 8:45 to get past the first game and start at game 2

Semifinals: Knitterhemd & Jesk VS khb & Shotgun

Semifinals: 00Steve & 00Logan VS u8t3io3p & Swift

Looks good. I'm just curious, as I watch the videos, what is your target audience?

Hah, potent question. I was trying for a tutorial like approach, as I had no idea what the limit of interest might be from a more general audience being exposed. So here we're going as broad as possible for a better chance at getting new interest. Really just having some fun over the last few days with the content  and making a small effort at exposing it to a wider audience. The successful commentator Tasteless in Starcraft takes a similar approach by continuously explaining the game as if it was to a newer audience throughout his career, even though its mainly only consistent viewers. It gives a chance at new viewers to pick it up, and it is I think even somewhat comforting to acclimated war2 Players as it reminds them of the basics and makes them feel good for already knowing what's being explained.

Pairs with an intro blog that I posted  yesterday, tournament stuff starts around 6 minutes in. I went live with this on Social Media, not a huge hit but it'll probably rack up a few hundred to a thousand views or so from that.

More games in the series to come!

What recording software are you using to make this cast?

I'm wondering how you were able to correctly scale war2 to the right side of your screen, and have your webcam in the top left.

most of us (including myself in the past) just had my webcam overlay the war2 window, typically in the bottom/left corner where it didnt interfere too much with what was being shown in the game.

OBS. I just manually sized everything, display view. Had to toggle back and forth for about 5 minutes and record to see how it worked, but I expanded the display window so that the war2 resolution took full screen. Seemed super janky but it worked out.

Thank you that is awesome!!

That gives me the semi finals so I have all semi-s and finals. Looking forward to casting! Oh and if Equinox is down I'm hoping to splice some of his reaction stuff in, that stuff is truly priceless :D

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah you can share or whatever, I doubt it'll make a splash on my feed.

That said, I think I'm going to re-do the video. So I actually already casted all games of this series, and KHB and I both dual casted all of the games of the semi-finals. But if I'm taking this to a bigger crowd, I think we need bigger, better games. So I'm considering re-pairing the VLOG with the first game of the finals, and having khb and I dual cast that. It's alot more fun to watch the dynamic of 2 casters than just 1 alone, especially in a sensitive introductory type content like this. People gravitate toward the caster-relationship. So I'm gonna probably trash this cast and re-pair it.

Very appreciate of the positive words and feedback. It was a ton of fun casting with Nick, and I think only posting a dual-cast is a good manifestation of my whole point about what I love about war2 - it's better as a team.

Hi,

I made a video VLOG talking a little about Warcraft 2 and how it impacted me, and I then go on to do a cast. This youtube video is currently unlisted, and I'm seeking feedback from YOU! I was considering posting this to my social media accounts, which have notable followings but they are 100% Call of Duty Players. I'm not sure what I hope to accomplish with it, I think it's maybe a bit of a "coming out" as a war2 player, because I did hide it from the outside world for so long. I'm enjoying a bit of soul cleansing this year, and this feels like a significant part of it.

Posting here for feedback before I decide if and when to go live with the link.

Thanks!

Anyone who has replays from this tournament (not including games khb was in) please post them! We are doing a casting vod anthology that I'm interested in posting up for everyone. Would be cool to get all the games. Thanks!

Those were some serious GG's. Well played man, I was watching like "How the fuck this guy gonna win like this with 10k banked at all times" but u pull it all out somehow. Definitely looked like some lucky breaks but the best make it look that way. GG's to all that played I'm stoked to watch some other ones now also.
