Title: Different Variation of Colors - Units.
Post by: Incos on April 03, 2017, 04:27:13 PM
If you are interested, the patcher file is below..

Black is Gray (will show as gray on mini)
Teal = Green (will still show as teal)
Orange = Burnt Orange
Blue = Sky blue (sky blue)
White = Pure white (bright white)
Purple and Yellow have been changed very small
Red has been tinted lighter. (Brighter red)

You can try it out- dont forget to back up your patcher file if you feel like this might not be a good change, I know I was sick of the crappy orange and the crappy pink.Thank you

otherwise wicked n sexy but gray/black is just bad for minimap. also gray and white too similar. change grey to somat else and it iz fine and i might also start using it.

Guess it's matter of pref. With the new ice white, I don't see it being similar to gray at all.  It's mostly black but the mini map color was adjusted for a lighter gray. There's not many options outside of brown and pink or possibly going with a royal blue.

I actually love how the green and blue came out. The green displays teal on mini

That is cool...
But BabyShark has a point. How difficult is to make a utility that allows someone to alter any color for any other color?
I have dyschromatopsia which makes really hard for me to distinguish some colors like: Orange from Yellow and Teal from Green.

Would it be easy for you to make a dyschromatopsia friendly set of colors?
I could help you choose the correct color shades!

Cheers

Using this could have more player slots there could add new colors with 8v8 would that be possible?

Yeah as far is the colors gos, lamb invented a program, maybe it's in the nerds  post in mods called Paulette editor.

You will need to download that. Adjust the colors 2nd and 3rd row from bottom. Save as a .ppl so if your doing forest it would be forest.ppl.

You will need win mpq to open the war patch.mpq.   Then add the forest.ppl file
You will have to use the same data that is there so bg/unit/.   And it will add the forest file. It's not too tricky but does require minimal learning. If you want I could re do some colors as well for your eye sight. Give me an idea which colors collide for you and i can try to do something.

Also. To add more players would require a new engine for the game or an overhaul to the one we have. If you understand coding, you could help in mods forum

Thanks

I wanted to see a new face in this game so I gave the idea of 8v8 with the color variations iqual in war3 has a munte of colors that has in 16 slots of players besides the map could be increased the size to support at least 10 players or more 5v5 or 6v6 would be a very different thing adding new colors I know it has thousands of colors for this

We will definitely make that!
Today, while I play, I will pay more attention and note down the colors we need to tweak.

I can tell you which colors are alright:
Blue, Red

Problematic colors are:
Black(Pink)/Purple
Orange/Yellow

I'm not sure if I have problems with white or green I think not but I need to check.

Making Black to Grey; I think it would be better than pink but needs to be checked.
Cheers

I tested out the colors today, man they are fugly ! :D or maybe not, it could just be that they're unfamiliar, but that burnt red color man, idk... charcoal black was pretty nice though!

one big flaw I noticed though is that teal seems very similar to the "you" color green on the minimap at a quick glance, could be very disrupting

Okay!

After yesterdays games and seeing your colors I think I decided that for me the best would be:

Original:
Blue
Red
Green

Yours:
Black (Grey it is great)
Orange (Burnt Orange)

Any of the two (original or yours):
White
Purple
Yellow

These colors would be the best for people like me!

With the normal ones I have problems to separate Orange from Yellow
With yours I had problems to separate Orange from Red

Black has problems with the minimap
Pink creates me a problem with Purple

Grey is PERFECT :-)

Blue, I could separate it okay in both cases but the light blue was a bit more tiring to look at.

Can these changes apply for all map terrains? Forest, Swamp, Winter, Wasteland

Thank you

Here you go igog!

Wow!!! That is great!
Now that I can compare your orange vs the original Yellow, I can say that your Yellow is better than the original.
Your orange vs normal red is perfectly clear :-)
Now I can make out the colors!

I am guessing that this patch only works for forest tileset.
We should inform iL to integrate your patch to the installer.
Thus new D/Ls should have also your patch instead of only the pink.

How much work is it to make the colors work for all tilesets?

Cheers

I did for every tile set in that mpq file, check to see if they work

Colors are actually growing on me, the red & orange are nice, but white looks the same as critters on the minimap and teal still looks too much like you green. it's also really oddly metallic looking

blue is just impossible to look at though, it's like they're under a blacklight

1-red
2-yellow
3-white
4-blue
5-brown
6-light grey
7-dark purple
8-pink

would that stay out of color blindness?

Light gray would mess with white.. I like brown tho as an option

Read about 5 posts up I added a better color. No green or sky blue. Includes all tilesets, check it out. It's not in original post

ok! I'll test it. Is it still the custom white? The ice white is very nice, I'm not sure now if it was white or black (gray) that looked the same as the critters on mini map. It was on wasteland tileset

So after a weekend of testing with the colors, I have to say that the set you gave me is near perfection but can be improved!

I have problems with Green vs Black (Grey) on minimap.
Also your Yellow and purple vs the normal Yellow and purple are better but the normal ones are also okay

So I suggest:
Original:
Blue
Red
White

Yours:
Black (Grey it is great)
Orange (Burnt Orange)

Any of the two (original or yours):
Yellow
Purple

And Green is a problem. We need to tune green to be different from the grey black and different from the green of your city.

Original Green mixes with the Grey black, and your Green mixes with your city Green. (Only Minimap problem)

You could try something like this: #5BC236 Hex Color | RGB: 91, 194, 54 | APPLE, GREEN

Cheers.

Ps: Yes it works on winter (I had a couple of games and orange really looked cool at winter!)

is it possible for each tileset to have it's own optimal palette? what would the grunts say about this?
