Title: [done] HD screen problems...In-Game Lag
Post by: EviL~Ryu on June 06, 2015, 01:16:18 PM
Playing war2 on a 16:9 screen, i managed to get the aspect ratio to 4:3 while the game plays but in game there is a quite a bit of lag?

Units moves very slow, along with the mouse and scroll movements.

Anyway to fix this??

ur not providing much info
(- video card brand/mo)
(- things you've tried to do)

by the way you describe things, it gives me the impression you think somehow the aspect ratio change is involved in the lag....?

is there no lag if played on 16:9 ?

Hey pedo, I haven't tried much since I m not sure what to do exactly. What I have posted, is what I have done. And yes there is lag in 16:9 also. The lag started when I changed to a 16:9 monitor. There was no lag, when I used my old my old 4:3 monitor.

download newest drivers
uninstall drivers
reboot
install new drivers
(video card drivers obvously)
sometimes the simpler things work.
you gotta try the simpler stuff before asking help, no offense.
this is common practice in pretty much any technical support site.

even my cell phone company, when i dial up asking for help, a recording tells me to reboot my phone b4 continuing with support, and sometimes that fixes it :P

I did a little more digging, seems like the problem was the ddraw that was released in the latest version of war2 combat. Weirdly it worked great when my primary monitor was my 4:3. However, when switching to the new 16:9 it had been causing the lag problems. I guess i'll have to deal with a few missed up icons. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game w/o the ddraw and it works fine now.

I also tried 3.15 War2 Combat w/ similar lag results.

Any reason why ddraw would be causing problems on the 16:9 display and not the 4:3??

Evil~Ryu, try toggling back to your desktop and see the refresh rates at which your screen is displaying at 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio respectively...

Can you try setting 75Hz at 16:9. If you cannot, simply lower the res and it should work. Then try war2 again?

umm don't think so.. my graphic control panel only allows 58,59,60.

I just thought of something. Go in your war2 folder and backup aquit.cfg. Try playing with some of the settings...They control how the ddraw.dll works.

Exactly what I have/use...What is your graphics card brand. I had an nvidia card before and updating drivers messed war2. I had to use a specific older driver version. Conversely, I now have a Radeon and while its drivers suck goats ass, the latest is pretty good. Fixed a number of issues and war2 related display problems were solved.

Ahhh I was right on target with the directdraw.dll

UPDATE: Managed to fix all problems.

Problem 1: The aspect ratio was fixed by changing the widening rule in my monitor, from "auto" to "manual". Basically switching to manual added the black bars and presented the game in 4:3 .

Problem 2: The directdraw.dll was causing my in game graphics and units to move very slow.

The problem was happening because I had left my extended monitor on while playing War2, for some reason this was causing the in game graphics and units to lag?

Still not exactly sure why...if anyone has any thoughts on this would be great to hear from you! Thanks!
