1. Shotgun
2. Jesk
3. U8tio3p
4. Lone
5. Startale

In gow.

I think szwagier would rank 1 in variety of maps as he has practiced a ton on them.

Lone may be getting stronger now, i noticed he has won a lot against Shotgun recently not sure the spots.

11. Benny's need to mine personal information about everyone he comes in contact with :>

music is definitely not a negative aspect of streams imo! I wish all war2 streamers had war2 soundtrack playing at an appropriately unobtrusive volume during their streams. At the very least it mitigates that horrible void of silence during the period between start of game & finished construction of first farm...

You have a lot more influence than you realize TK. The videos you posted on youtube are the best learning tools out there for beginners. I was hopelessly bad at gow and wouldn't even bother learning it if I haven't seen your commentary.

I agree. If you were to do a rehash of your training vids from every position I believe it would be a huge contribution.

Unlikely to say the least.

Tk willing gave up his admin position and upon leaving he pissed off the admin team.

http://forum.war2.ru/index.php/topic,1095.msg16779.html#msg16779 (http://forum.war2.ru/index.php/topic,1095.msg16779.html#msg16779)

Anything that TK does for war2 will have to be solely because he likes this game and want to see it grow. I can almost assure tk that he will probably never be rewarded for his actions with some type of mod position. But don't worry TK, if you really care about this game you don't need any type of mod position to work with the community in order to see it thrive.

I was drunk when I wrote that but yeah IL isn't going to do anything and neither am i. I'm not going to put time and money into something that's been slowly dying.. that's a really bad investment and makes no sense to me. Once war2 dies I'll start a server and rebuild it..

I'll wait till people are all ready to make the switch. . Others have tried starting thier own server but the community wasn't ready to make the switch. Trust issues with the people starting the new servers was a big factor tho

tk i really enjoyed your gow training videos as a new player, i was anxious to see more being posted about other strats,

the basics are very good to learn but this game is about adapting to what your opponent does

it would be interesting to see more advanced videos like chopout rush, ogre rush, towering from 6, playing from middle etc

Would anyone else like to volunteer to do an updated Gow training series? Preferably a tier 1-2 player.

The only person that comes to mind is greenplastic/00joe. He's the only one that has both the fundamentals down and is articulate enough to convey them to new players.
Title: Re: In what order would you rate these players?
Post by: Sentinel1 on December 27, 2016, 02:53:17 AM
Wouldn't take a tier 1 or 2 player to communicate fundamentals, just takes intelligence in the sense of knowing how to organize the ideas and some basic knowledge of video editing to assist presenting them.  I could do the former but no idea on the latter.

Video 1 would be showing how to build halls.  "You want to build your hall as close to the gold mine as possible while maximizing the flow of gold - you don't want your peons to get stuck or be bumping into each other."  *Cut to examples of bad halls, explaining what is happening.  One where it's too far away, one where the flow is impeded (bad placement in 11, for example), one where you put buildings in the gold flow.*  Then show the standard hall placement for each spot while simultaneously touching on the spot numbers.

Video 2 would maybe be a good time to go over popout order and the concept of wall ins.  Show a barracks walling in 11 by itself, show it getting attacked and point out how the peons are able to repair it safely.  After that show how grunts pop out of it, followed by some more advanced popout order stuff (build a smith behind the barracks, pointing out how it affects the popout to outside the base), finally followed by a tower below 9's mine which combines both principles simultaneously - the peon pops out to the left and is now safe to repair.

Video 3 would show how to do a basic rush.  Start out by touching on the fact that the key to a rush is having gold, and you should never stop making peons throughout the game, *cut to a brief 20 second clip of making a peon, doing stuff while it builds, immediately making another one, etc, pointing out what you're doing ("See, as soon as it's done I immediately make another, this needs to become a habit for you"*.  Then show a basic build order of farm rax farm smith, then tell them the same principle of never stop making a peon applies to not stopping making grunts.  Tell them to upgrade first level shields as soon as they can, first level swords as soon as they can.

Video 4 would continue with the basics of grunts/rushing, focusing on two things.  The first would be the principles behind retreating.  "During the early game, every grunt is important and can be the difference between winning and losing."  Show a clip of a player losing 2 grunts to 4, then show a clip of that same situation but with the two grunts retreating, joining back up with five grunts, killing the four grunts, then running into the 4-grunt base and winning.  The second thing would be chokes.  Would be best to show a 3v1 choke to make the advantage more visually apparent, followed by the standard 4v3 choke at 2.  Could potentially follow this up by going into flanking, where a group of your grunts attacks a straight line of grunts on the end, which essentially combines the principles of microing grunt movement and number advantages.

Video 5 could start out being all about tower battles followed by avoiding standard lethal weaknesses to towers at the applicable bases (behind 4, 5, 6).  Basically a guide to not dying in the first two minutes of the game.  I think this would be a good time to go into it, as two of the three most important fundamentals have already been covered (peon creation, popout order).  The other fundamental, which would be taught now, would just be how towers work - how far they shoot, counting the spots to create repairable towers, etc.

Well I'm getting lazier with each post so I'll stop for now but I think that would be a fine way to organize the first five videos if anyone had the motivation.

Those are good ideas Sentinel. Adding the edits for videos 1 and 4 showing proper halls and bad halls & its effects is a good idea specially. Since most new players don't see the difference. Could then go on to say things like with the bad hall it would be like having 7 peons on gold instead of 11 due to the mining speed etc.

In my opinion u will make "zombies"and only gow, strategy at axolotl is enough
Title: Re: In what order would you rate these players?
Post by: ~ToRa~ on December 27, 2016, 09:34:58 AM
Only map people play on the server is "gow" unfortunately. And its better to have a bunch of zombies who at least know how to build and make units then have a bunch of newbs, that make their hall 6 spaces away.
Title: Re: In what order would you rate these players?
Post by: tk[as] on December 27, 2016, 09:59:38 AM
I play a lot of maps.. the reason my vids focused on gow was because it is the most played map, but also because I believe its the most diverse map/speed. The skills it takes to learn gow translate easier to other maps.. rather than learning something like archers, gseps, hsc, kotr.. and trying to then learn gow.

Title: Re: In what order would you rate these players?
Post by: Szwagier on December 27, 2016, 10:14:37 AM
they are diffrent, for example i played vs alf at "a continent to explore"  i rushed with 2 rax( i dont remember when i made 2 rax, mby 12x2 but skip 2 and make more) i made stronghold without mill (omg noob no mill 1111111!!!!ONEONE11) i make lvl 5 at hall (also dont remember when i made it with hall 12x2 only)

if i rush lvl 3 alf would crush me easy
if i made mill alf would crush me easy
if i rush 1 rax alf would crush me  easy
etc

U need only basic strategy from axotolt form, if some1 understand this strategy he will be fine
Also u need know a bit map, what can do your opponent, if he cant close base he will rush 100% but u need scout, is it 1 rax rush or 2 or mby he will sit and tech for orges, if he can close base, maybe he went 2 hall/power/dual, he close base and made only troll, mby fake power and he is going rush
Title: Re: In what order would you rate these players?
Post by: Sentinel1 on December 27, 2016, 12:56:22 PM
That's all true but this would be a guide to get a player at least able to participate in a game.  They'll never come close to understanding the intricacies of what you just posted if they can't at least survive the first two minutes of the game, or cant contribute enough to do a basic rush - because they'll just keep getting booted.  These videos would basically just be giving them the tools to be able to learn further.
Title: Re: In what order would you rate these players?
Post by: tk[as] on December 27, 2016, 01:14:44 PM
Yeah.. the series I have planned is going to be like a 3-4 part series.. introduction explaining basic mechanics, beginner going going over basic builds/strategies, intermediate which will go over some more complex strats and builds, then advanced... would probably be well over 50 videos the way I intend to do it.. im just not going to do it for a community of 50 active players and declining. Its a lot of work just putting 1 video together... if one of u are down to do it more power to you. I'll wait until I feel confident the investment is worth it personally.

short videos such as unit summaries would be good as well, part 1 peons would be about peon production, res management, offense towering, defending with peons etc

part 2 grunts/footies would be about early game rushes, when to stop making grunts, why lvl 3 grunts are most economical etc

i think there is a vast amount of content that new players have trouble understanding

if there was more content on war2 this server would have hundreds of players, it's a timeless classic

2017 let's make war2 great again

lately we have been playing lots of different classic/bne maps and it has been quite of fun. many of us old skoolers actually like to play diff maps (not including customs since they arent real war2 and have nuttin to do with strategy ) but ppl r just too lazy and pick the easy and quick gow. there is only a few ppl who are against differents maps and those peeps are in small minority.

maybe just trashtalking multiretarded newbies like "warbandit" arent invited in those games.

bandit the reason you're not in the "club" is because you have lost every single game (or series) against a decently skilled player .. 95% of your ladder wins are against complete newbs. Further more, about 50% of your losses are against complete newbs.

Then you're a confirmed hacker who has been caught at least 2 separate times

Then you talk trash for attention, instead of improve your skill and get attention simply by improving.

you're simply not at the competitive level you need to be at for anyone to take a master tag challenge seriously. Get to that level, then make the challenge.

SO by your pointless opinion , improve by playing less quality players,,,,,,,only to waste my time asking to play better quality and watch them run there mouth much like you do?

play top level players all day long ... be respectful, challenge players.. but you're not going to have an opportunity to challenge them for their tag until you improve your skill and gain some amount of respect from them.

if they wont play you under warbandit, maybe try smurfing and asking for 1v1's ... "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."  .. say "gg" after the games whether you win or lose... and build some respect in the community. you will have no problem at all getting games from good players if they enjoy playing with you.

So you suggest playing on a smurf just to get a game ?
Only one problem with that champion,
Aside shotgun and a selected few chop players,I'm the only Australian player on server,
Which would indicate  an auto ban(thanks to dellams past history of ruining it for any other aus players)?

So you suggest playing on a smurf just to get a game ?
Only one problem with that champion,
Aside shotgun and a selected few chop players,I'm the only Australian player on server,
Which would indicate  an auto ban(thanks to dellams past history of ruining it for any other aus players)?
Note not starting an argument just suggestion a common problem i have come across.

Not true there have been increasingly more ausie players on the server. So being under a unknown ausie name shouldn't constitute an auto ban.

warbandit, encourage those that think you're dellam to view the antihack page (click on the 1st banner up the top of this page that has users/bots/games) to show your AH status. dellam is tagged with the UNKNOWN status.

Actually dellam always tells people to check the antihack page too.  It says UNKNOWN once he starts hacking but he'll close out and come back in and get it to say AH and then tell everyone to check it.  Then if he gets to stay he'll turn the hack back on.

Why doesn't the AH page have a notifier for HACK or Unknown statuses like the Game Monitor page does for Maps?

What do you mean?
http://server.war2.ru/status/?old=true (http://server.war2.ru/status/?old=true) This link will show "AH" in green for clean people, "UNKNOWN" in grey for someone who's got something funny going on, and "HACK" in red for people that are definitely hacking.  What do you mean about notifier for maps?

The 'Games Monitor' option on the website will allow you to get a ding sound through the browser whenever a map you select has a game created.

Wonder if same concept can be applied to AH; Anytime I'm in a game and hear a certain designated sound I know it's either Unknown or HACK

It's actually a shipyard game sound.

I love it. I kicked the dog the other day because I was waiting for a game to start and sprinted to the computer when I heard it. The dog got excited and ran in front of me. He's dead.  We won the 2v2 though.

Anyways... the feature would be helpful for awareness of status changes.
