What we really would need is a match making system where you register to a queue and you get to face a random person selected from that queue by elo and a toutch of randomness.

We could make it external but we would have to set it up in a way we can track games and games are properly hosted/played.

So maybe we would have to pair that system with a hosting bot that would host the games for players and give them time to get in the game and if they leave before it starts or do not join within the allocated time frame they loose elo to make sure we avoid dodging behaviors if you dodge you basically take the loose.

Also players would have to have a certain number of games played before they can queue up in that to make sure we do not have too much smurfing problems I would say 1000 games or something like that :P

3) Server.War2.ru / Re: Should I buy/play Gog?
« on: April 16, 2019, 07:22:31 PM »
@Szwagier Exactly!

You cannot register your already bought game at gog you have to specifically buy it from them to get their updated client.

There wont be such option since Blizzard ditched the title and abandoned all support for the game.
Blizzard can never sell the game in that state it does not meet their standards they would have to fix it.

Basically gog is asking players to pay for what fans already did for free and what should have been done by blizzard a long time ago if they did not abandon the game...

Now lets imagine that blizzard was the one doing it and not gog for a second, take a game people already have bought, fix the bare minimum for it to barely work again and charge the full game all over again to it's customers in order for them to just have exactly the same experience they had before.

You effectively are making people pay for customer support on a product they already bought we are not talking additional content or expansion here just keeping the product barely working.

I know most people are fine paying for what should be free but not everyone is a mac user :))

Now if blizzard or gog was to make a re-master of the game which means upgrading the textures, adding match-making,  greater battle.net support, etc... that would be another story they can sell that this is content but keeping a game working is not something we should encourage selling.

Look at war3 they are doing a remaster and it is looking good because at the same time they keep the old game working as well they update it they did not abandon it they only make you pay for the new graphics and new content but keeping the game working is not something they charge you for and that should never be...

so yes for me gog is just a scam in disguise...

If people start buying a game again every time it needs an update the game industry is kinda hopeless.

It may be a different company but activision clearly wants to milk people without the responsibility that is why they accepted the deal from gog.
They stopped selling the game because it is broken and they dont want to fix it but they still want your money.
Gog gave them an opportunity to get your money for the game without having to fix much since most fixes are documented and already done by fans anyways.

And of course gog want you to buy the game from them even if you already have it they don't care if you already bought it, a scam is a scam...

Now how long before steam starts to do the same thing and fix that or that other problem and require you to buy the full game once again as well?
And maybe itch.io someday ? Origin?

This is capitalism if you start buying things that you should not buy you are sending a message that it is ok to sell these things and before you know it you will have to pay for every single updates for every single game you own to just keep them working.

That is where people should draw lines on what practice is ok and what is not.

If blizzard or GoG made a full remaster of the game including HD textures widescreen support, team/solo matchmaking queues and updated battle.net interface as well as fixing the old game just like they are doing for warcraft 3 reforged.

Then yes that would be something else, but here it is very different and that should be seen for what it is: a scam...

So when that happens try to keep them by continuing what you are doing show them greatness! Show them your epic whirlwind or runes or skeletons BM strats make it spicy ;)

When I come in your games and watch I also mention your stream and when you do them super fun strats people get hyped and will have a look at the beast in action :P

6) Server.War2.ru / Re: Is the community as a whole not in favor of..
« on: April 06, 2019, 03:45:41 PM »
Honestly I am in favor of no changes at all!
We dont need the game to be balanced to have fun on war2.
Everyone knows it is not balanced and it is not that big of an imbalance in itself.
You can always play the same race as your opponent if you want perfect balance and it also provides a way to play with a handicap against someone else it can be an additional source of fun

Right now I would say it is the least important thing I would go for if I was to spend effort making the game better:

I would rather have people work on implementing:

-> A match-making queue for 1v1 and premade teams based on elo.
Like they have in war3 or starcraft 2.

-> A real spectate mode with 2 or 3 minutes delay that does not impact the real game speed so if watcher lags players do not feel it.
The idea would be to do what insight does but instead of writing to a file send the data to the watchers that would then store the data to the buffer and play it something around these lines.

-> Some real team wins conditions meaning that if you loose all your buildings but one player have you allied and still has units you are not defeated until no player alive have you allied. (no more need to care for that stupid last building)

-> Some handicap options in lobby like war3 or starcraft, allowing you to set a handicap for yourself that would make your units have a lower maximum health in game based on that handicap setting.

The last thing id change is the balance honestly because this would not be necessarily a straight upgrade from what we have already.
But if really there is no way around it and we already considered all of the above I would go for small targeted changes so that all spells and units get used more often instead of just ignored in most situations:

- fix balista bug
- lust mana cost increase to 80 or 100 or more if not enough up to 128 so that ogres cannot always re-lust right away giving humans a chance to kite since the spell should mostly be used to break chokes and walls.
- heal mana cost decrease to 2 per hp healed or less (so that it actually freaking heals)
- Adjust human spells costs and research times to orcs's costs.
- Double fireball's damages or make it two times cheaper so that it is worth using in some situations.
- Make polymorph cost 125 at most because you have to pay for it and it is nowhere near an as good a nuke as coil is.
- invisibility also forces you to have mages sitting at home and will most of the time not have the same impact as haste so id make its mana cost only twice the one of haste at 100
- Make skeletons benefit upgrades or slightly buff them because they are just a waste at the moment they serve no strategical purpose and they could have one.
- flameshield mana cost to 50 instead of 80 would also help making that spell more worth using.
- Unholy armor to 125 mana like polymorph for more ease of use

For the mechanics maybe heal and slow targetting could work like coil meaning snap to the closest unit but honestly id be fine if we kept the game intact mechanically speaking aside from the ballista's bug.

But yeah as I said that'd be my last concern and changing the balance would also require us to test a lot and make sure the game still plays the same and is getting better not worse. :P

8) Server.War2.ru / Re: Macro vs Micro?
« on: February 23, 2019, 03:33:33 PM »
Another way to put it would be:

Macro is about controlling the paste of the game as a whole basically, When and where fight happen and why they have to happen in that way for you to win.
Identifying the winning conditions, creating new ones and taking them opportunities when they appear.

A good macro player will not always just get as many bases as possible but rather will understand when to do it and when not to do it.

It is all about being good at identifying the strengths and weaknesses of every situations globally and always choose accordingly the best strategy to adopt.

The best strategy can be to go for multiple halls in maps like HSC when playing 1v1 but it can also adapting and realizing your opponent is right next to you and changing your plans and adapting your build for a more early engagement a good macro player will control his timings and power spikes.

In short:
Macro: managing the game as a whole.
Micro: managing the game entities individually.

You can compensate one by the other:
If you are bad at micro but are better and macro you basically will tend to create conditions for you to have enough units and resources that you can afford to waste more of them.
If you are bad at macro you will tend to spend more time on making sure that even when you do not control the paste of the game your superior usage of the little resources you have allow you to win even if you had less resources and units overall than your opponent.

Some players indeed tend to perform better on one of the other and you can often tell by looking and the end screens:

If you look at Braviet you will sometimes see he manages to win games with half the resources and units of his opponents with a very positive kill/death ratio that shows how good he is with his uc that shows he has good micro skills.
Some other player like spb- will most often win because they manage to get that much more resources and map control but will tend to have a less amazing kill/death ratio that often reveals how much control they had over the map and objectives throughout the game.

Now that said it is not black and white, it takes both skills to be in these players league, Braviet has over the top micro but he also has amazing macro there is a reason why he is one of my favourite players to watch.

Szwagier is a completely balanced player and masters both sides of the coin pretty much flawlessly good luck idenfying his weak/strong spot lol.

Spb- tends to be known for favoring macro but he also has very good micro when he wants to.

Macro = manage the game as a whole: controlling resources and long term objectives like your economy and your global strategies and options throughout the game (build orders, timings, knowing when to attack and when to play defensively or what area of the map to prioritize at any given time in the game etc).

Micro = managing your units at a more individual level, constructing your base managing the space that is right in front of you tile by tile, and controlling them units. Basically having good reflexes and knowledge of what units can do.

Warcraft 2 really is quite balanced of both side of the spectrum if you have good reflexes chances are you are already be good at the micro part of the game and be pretty fast I would recommend spending more time on the macro, planning and adapting your strategies controlling the directions the game can take.

If however you are a pretty slow player chances are you are focusing on the macro part of the game a little bit too much (build orders etc) and can improve trying to spend a bit more time controlling the units you have.

Unlike many modern real time games having good reflexes and being fast in warcraft 2 will not be enough to make you a strong player, war2 is much more balanced in that regard you need both skills it will reward a smart player for making the good decisions too.
The strongest players in war2 are not the fastest ones

The best way to improve still is to maximize the fun you get out of every game win or loose though

« on: February 13, 2019, 02:31:42 PM »
Yeah the amount of players playing can really have a big impact on how the map is played and balanced :-)

In many ways GOW becomes more balanced as the number of playing players decreases.
DC on the other hand becomes more balanced as that number increases.

GOW still remains the king of all land maps for me though, because of the variety it features.
You just get so much replayability out of it.

I would not bite off more then you can chew. Especially with all your bad teeth! You fucking loser.

Lmao you can't help it, it is so deeply rooted in you...
I am sure you don't even understand yourself what is wrong with you in these statements and what they say about you.
No wonder why people do not trust you...

Not everyone was lucky enough to get properly educated...
You should start right there, trying to be better person, understanding where the boundaries of social correctness are.
Start with that simple rule:
If you can't be sure yourself that a random outsider reading your post will find it perfectly fine then maybe it is not fine maybe it is just disgusting and out of place...

Imagine if IL had such a bad temper and behaved the way you are right now...

If that post was a way to advertise that new server of yours you certainly nailed it, amazing...
You are the thief that wanted to become a banker. Threatening everyone to steal their money and asking people to trust him to deposit their cash in his bank at the same time.

Why would anyone trust you with their addresses, and credentials when they can already see what you are doing with the little you have.
Think about that you freaking genius...

Good job showing what kind person you really are and why everyone should stay away from you and what you have your hands on.

First, honestly I am fine with the game not being balanced I do not think it has to be perfectly balanced to be fun.
Imbalances can make the game fun too it adds a challenge.

About game balancing
Spoiler
Now if we were to make any changes:
Overall if we wanted to change the balance without breaking the game of transforming it into something else increasing the mana cost of lust is a good starting point that is true.
Though 150 is a very big change I would start with something around 80 100 and if it is not enough grow up from there 125 etc... It is very well possible that 150 would be the final value.

But the idea would be to make the minimum amount of changes possible you do not want to overshoot it.

Slow however is already a good spell that does not cost too much it is used and has value to it.
I would focus on slowly changing something that is not used as much as it could like heal or exorcism and change the mana cost of that so that it has more value to it.

The end goal would be to have changed so little people coming back to the game feel like the game is the same.

Now honestly the way the game is right now is fine by me I am  having fun playing it the way it is.
The problem is that changing the mana costs means changing the game for everyone else.
We could use a second server to try up the changes and all but that is a lot of work to change something that is not that far from being perfect already and that most of us already love.

Maybe if someday blizzard makes a remaster of the game they will make these changes.

That said I am not against trying things if it is done very carefully but I can definitely agree with what IL said.
There are things that would help the game much more like having a match-making system for 1v1 as well as team games, also your clan war thing could be a good addition and what you said about adding the mini-maps in the lobby all these changes seem to have much more added value to them and are less risky to try because these changes are straight improvements for everyone.

About map balancing
Spoiler
About map balancing especially for team games I slightly disagree I believe spots can have different layouts some may close and some may not depending on what other advantages they have or do not have.

What may make a map interesting can also be the clever use of these imbalances giving players different options depending on where they are and where their enemies are.

This is the reason why I love playing Four Seasons so much in team games, because depending on where I am and where my enemies are, my options are completely different not less viable just different.
That is what makes this map so fun to spectate too, you get to see land rushes, water, lust, mages, air all of that in one game.

And honestly in the last version of the map I do not have any favorite starting position.

But yes for 1v1 games, having a 8 player map where not all spots can be closed is a disadvantage just because there are so many free spots to go to at the start for both players.

15) Server.War2.ru / Re: How to get good in Warcraft 2?
« on: February 12, 2019, 11:55:21 AM »
find good undetectable hacks
I loled

My advice would be a single and simple one:
Have fun playing the damn game.
Enjoy yourself while playing it, win or loose the fun is what will make you come back to it and love it and in no time be good at it...

If you look at Szwagier's stream when he plays against Braviet and he forgot his mic on you will hear him laughing a lot, he is genuinely having a good time when he plays the game.
That is I think what it takes to be good at something.

If you are getting wrecked in the first two minutes in a savage way look at what you can do next time to try and stop that from happening or delay it and most importantly laugh about it.
