Server.War2.ru / Why doesnt Sepi ever play anyone good?

Looking through his match history on the ladder, he pretty much sticks to tier 3 and occasional tier 2 opponents.

Server.War2.ru / Two towers glitch?
« on: March 21, 2017, 09:08:34 PM »
I forgot to post about this, it happened a few weeks ago.

Player X (on my team) placed an offensive tower outside 11 to attack 11.  I was already dead so I was watching closely, and saw for sure that when the fog cleared upon construction completion, none of 11's buildings were in range, thus he wouldn't see the tower.

Much to my surprise, 11 comes running out with 5 peons to kill the tower.  I called him out on it, and he said "I have towers too."  I thought he was busted.

But then I recreated the scenario, because there's no way 11 saw Player x's tower if Player X didnt see his.  Except when I recreated it, that's exactly what happened.  The tower placement of 11's tower saw the corner of Player X's tower.

I asked Swift about this and even he wasnt aware (He's normally a fairly encyclopedic source).  Lambchops you have any idea about this?

Server.War2.ru / Does War2 drain anyone else?
« on: November 19, 2016, 05:17:49 AM »
One thing I've always noticed about myself from playing War 2 is how much it drains my energy.  I was thinking about this the other day when someone said "brb need coffee" and later, another person said they were falling asleep at the computer playing.  I cant imagine this at all.  Playing is normally really intense for me and if I play too long I'll feel like cracked out for awhile like I depleted all my endorphins or adrenaline or something.  Sometimes even if I eat right before playing, after I'll feel like I need to eat again.  This is a big reason I hate playing 1v1 series, I normally don't have the energy for more than 1-2, especially if they're intense games.  Then I see people on their steams and they're just calm as fuck like they're playing minesweeper or something.

Anyone else feel me?  At all????

Server.War2.ru / Smurf speculation thread
« on: October 28, 2016, 02:49:35 PM »
As I posted in another thread, I feel like there's more active smurfs on nowadays than there have been in a long time.  I always wonder if many of them overlap and actually are the same people.  I wonder if I'm cool with the same person on one of their names and not on another.  I wonder if I think one player is better than another when they're the same.  I wonder if there's actually only like 20 active people instead of twice that.

Some of them are known and they aren't really secret anymore.  Maybe some are old and people will admit it was them.  So with that said, who is/was...

Flame Wars & Offtopic / Is Sepi the worst person on the server?
« on: August 15, 2016, 05:48:14 PM »
Was thinking today that Sepi aka Antti_Kiviniemi might be the least likable person on the server.  Constant shit talker, constant rager, huge ego.  Saw him going crazy at Knitterhemd earlier in chat saying some insane shit, raging, "dont even say anything knitter, u newb, i will destroy you.  i dont want to destroy you but i will." Something like that. I know theres a lot of egos/shit talkers/ragers but he seems to take it to a really deranged level.

« on: July 30, 2016, 11:51:20 PM »
I saw Kanuks tonight, he was playing Warcraft 2.  Tested him by asking him an obscure smurf name he used to have and he remembered.

Hopefully he plays more than just once.

Server.War2.ru / The problem with old/ef
« on: June 15, 2016, 12:49:15 AM »
The main problem with old/ef GoW is that everyone builds exactly the same with little to no variation.  And when there's little variation in how people build, there is very little variation in how people attack each other.  I thought about this watching a game the other day where braviet was at s9 and someone else was at 11.  When 11's peon ran into s9, there's really only two spots braviet's hall can be, "middle" or "below" the gold mine.

Braviet's gold mine was in the middle, with his first farm creating two paths to block someone else from popping his peons below with a farm or tower.  11 blocked this with one wall, forcing braviet's peons to pop out below.  Now having played thousands of games, this is something braviet has no doubt encountered countless times.  Whereas someone like me hasn't yet figured out what's the optimal move now, braviet and most others have.  And with the slow ef speed making execution a non-issue, to combat what's happening is just academic for him.

This is one small example.  I watched Viruz play a series vs someone where he got 11 three games in a row.  Every game he built exactly the same, rax walling him in, smith behind rax popping grunts out, followed by a chop below the smith a bit later to pop a cat inside.  He won every game despite the fact that 95% of the gameplay was exactly the same.

On gow bne there's a little more room for building differently which is a big factor, but I think just as big is the fact that at higher speed, execution comes more into play.  Things are a little more chaotic, especially if you're trying to break a dual while maintain things at home.  Things get a little messier and that makes games vary much more.

tldr: since everyone on old/ef builds the same, every higher level player has tons of practice knowing what to do in every situation because they've already encountered the exact scenario countless times before and equally importantly, does not need to be fast to do what they know needs to be done.
