Flame Wars & Offtopic / Re: vote to follow blizzard balance by default
« on: December 07, 2024, 06:50:21 PM »
We are 2 votes behind to bring new feature for this game! Making this the default be a good change.

We just need to open our minds to change.

It's probably not a good idea to apply such a change when the result of the poll is almost 50/50. If it will change to 80/20, then maybe...

Server.War2.ru / Re: Warcraft II - 29 years! War2Combat 5.0 released!
« on: December 06, 2024, 11:06:36 PM »
I had problems getting 640x480 to work correctly.  I do not like HD screen sizes for war2 as it makes the minimap to hard to monitor on a large monitor.  So I started messing with the video settings to try to get the ORIGINAL settings back.

I also HATE that the pvpgn chat window gets taken out of full screen and becomes a window in both openGL and DirectX9 whenever you enter it (from a game or from main menu).  Also,  there's a bug with that as well when using 640x480,  if you enter or create a game,  it only works the first time.  If you enter/create a game the 2nd time,  it sets the starting pixel to 50% rather than 0,  resulting in the screen being shifted to the right and down so that pixel 0 is dead center in the screen.  The only way to fix that was to switch to GDI.  It seems to only do this with small screen sizes like 640x480.  I suspect that the pixel var is using % rather than a number.  IE:  0%/0% and 50%/50% instead of 0/0.  Not sure what would cause it to use 50%/50%.  Either way, it shouldnt be using a % to begin with.

There's also another bug with the "Full Screen" option that causes the minimap to be BLURRY as all hell as well as the menu items having a strange white border on the right side of them and texts to have white in them as well.  Changing to Fullscreen Upscale fixes that problem.... sort of.  Text still has white in it when it should be completely yellow or whatever color the font is set to.

Anyway,  for those that dont like the video and want the original war2 settings back as close as possible,  this is what I used:

Fullscreen Upscaled
640x480
Unchecked Maintain aspect ratio (this stretches the screen so there are no black borders, some people dont like that)
Unchecked Vsync
Unchecked Adjust mouse sensitivity
Checked Lock cursor
=====
OpenGL
Bilinear.glsl
Unchecked limit Frame rate (this improves input latency for me by lowering latency as far as I can tell)
Unchecked Window boxing
Show Window borders (for when alt-tab is used)
Checked Remember window position/size
=====
No Limit for game speed
Everything else checked on the compatibility page

Fixed the bug where the screen was shifted towards the bottom right after creating a game twice. Was related to a last minute change we did

Other than that, you should only need to change the resolution to 640x480 to get back the original look. Don't touch anything else. "Fullscreen Upscaled" is a good suggestion though (it enables the shaders and also allows to add/remove black bars via "maintain aspect ratio")

Direct3D renderer is only for old hardware, you don't want to use that one (unless there is no other choice)

Note: Do install this on Windows XP / Vista / 7 you may need to install the .NET Framework 4.0, otherwise the launcher may not start

.NET 4.0: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718

Windows XP might also need the Windows imaging component: https://archive.org/details/wic_x86_enu

Server.War2.ru / Re: Lag on b.net - even vs just computer
« on: November 26, 2024, 07:11:52 PM »
It has always been like that on battle.net. This is a local setting btw, in theory you can have a different latency than the other players (which is actually the case when one is using the original game and the others use the WarLat patch) and that's why it happens when playing against a computer too

There's a patch that removes the latency completely. However, it does make your game incompatible and you will only be able to play with those that have the same patch as well.  I didn't release a done version of it yet, but lamb made some test builds and they're somewhere here on the forums

You can adjust the latency via the in-game settings.

The lowest delay you can get by default (via the "low" setting) is 38 frames. LAN only got 12 frames in comparison

You can reduce the delay to 26 frames by installing the AutoWarLat plugin

Note: the plugin requires the plugin loader which doesn't work with the GOG version. But you can also install the widescreen patch instead https://www.moddb.com/games/age-of-empires/downloads/cnc-ddraw (that one does work with the GOG version)

Here are also some old animated gifs I made to compare the delay of each setting: https://imgur.com/a/LF2fYuM

For custom hotkeys:

Get the War2HotKeys tool, drag and drop the stat_txt.tbl file on top of it, edit your hotkeys and then save the file again as stat_txt.tbl.

@Available download link is broken

Folder is named "Game configuration" on the server and not "Game Configuration"

Does it support latest MacOS Sequoia 15.1? just wanted to check before upgrading (currently works using 13.4.1)

Have not tested it yet

Hey Guys, I'm new to this forum. I have a MAC running High Sierra 13.10.6.
I downloaded and click on the new icon and it doesn't do anything.
I don't see this listed but saw people run newer versions without issue.

Any advice and help is appreciated.

Unfortunately High Sierra is not supported anymore. The tools I'm using dropped support for it some time ago.

Is this already part of the main downloaded installer or do I need to download and add this separately?

It's not included yet, you will have to download it separately

Why do you use a VPN?

Created a forum account just to say thank you @fois this macOS release is amazing! I wasn't able to play for many years because I switched to macOS. Now I can play again and it works better than Windows 10 install did 7 or 8 years ago. I love how it minimizes while in chat and fullscreens when in game but I can also do the keyboard shortcut to open Spotlight which unfocuses the mouse cursor then I can change my song on Spotify on the other screen etc.

Nice! Glad to hear it's working well for you! And yes, I tried a bit more modern setup here with borderless mode for easier task switching. On the windows install we couldn't do that, too many would complain about it because they don't like changes :D

BTW, I just updated the first post with some additional info about the macOS download (there are some useful hotkeys)

Mods & Development / Re: Plugin package
« on: August 27, 2024, 05:14:24 AM »
All plugins have been rebuilt to lower the hardware requirements (they should all work now on a i486 CPU)

MMBlack
- Fixed a bug in the Black2Pink patch detection

HardwareCursor
- fixed hardware cursor auto resize on newer cnc-ddraw versions
- Can now hide the cursor the same way the original game did (e.g. on mission briefing or cutscenes)
- Removed animated cursors

lobby_map [NEW]
Made by lambchops, updated by me and zelya

- Fixed a bug/crash that could disable the map preview image
- Added new .ini setting to set custom coordinates for the map preview image
- Added new .ini setting to set custom colors/palette entries
- Does now detect the HardwareCursor plugin and disables the fake cursor that is drawn on top of the map preview image

@Alex1891 You can use any plugin you want with the widescreen patch, but you have to get the lambchops plugin loader AKA "LC.DLL". You can find it in the first post inside of the "lobby_map.zip"

Or here the direct link to the file:

I'll add support for the saveloadFixByMistral on next update though, that way it will work without lc.dll as well
