My mom was the one who bought War2 for herself many many years ago when I was like 11 or 12.  I would hop on her computer and play campaign, and fell in love with the game.  I eventually discovered a site called "Zone", where I played online for hours every day.  One of my longest streaks for staying awake was when I played Warcraft 2 on Zone (50 hours straight).  This was before Battlenet existed, so you could say I'm fairly oldschool.

My family moved back close to where I lived as a kid, and I was able to re-unite with my best friend whom I hadn't seen in years.  His name was Matt.  We quickly continued where we left off a few years ago and became best friends again.  I taught him how to play Warcraft 2 around the time Battlenet came out.  Though we made many different names along the way, the ones that stuck the longest were Mad-Rusher77 and Mad-Luster77.  He made his name first and I made a name that resembled his, for 2v2 purposes.  He got good at the game very fast, and we were a force to be reckoned with on US West.  I eventually moved far away again, and we did not stay in contact too often.  Once in a blue moon on Facebook.  During the decline of BNET and rise of RU, I stepped away from the game.  He and I decided to hop onto the RU server about 5 years ago, where we had some fun for a week or so.  I ended up leaving the game again though because of my addiction to LoL.  I tried bringing him to LoL with me, but he couldn't get into it.  He stuck with War2, and we became distanced again.  Upon seeing people stream War2 on GOG and the USA server on Twitch this year, I decided to play on those servers to see if I still had it in me.  Aside from that week of play about 5 years ago, I had not played this game in maybe almost 10 years.  I picked it back up really quick, and started enjoying the game again.  But the day after I started playing again, I found out Matt was in a coma.  I hoped he would come back to us, but I did not get the happy ending I hoped for.  I have a passion for this game for many reasons.  It is a huge part of my past as well as a link to my memory of one of the best friends I have ever had.  I get mixed emotions when playing this game, but I ultimately still love it, and will always consider it the greatest multiplayer experience of my life.

RIP Matty[iS].  Would have loved for you to be here during my return to the game.

And to think I was planning on going back to RU a bit more consistently.  At least keep that out of the USA server so I still have somewhere to play.  Or make it some sort of toggle option or lobby vote before the game starts.

*EDIT* - Oh wait, I just saw the no-hd thing.  Hopefully that is still in effect for now.  With it being indisputably advantageous for someone to view more of the screen than another person, I think it would only be fair to always leave it as an option.  Without any control over its use, the game is no longer balanced.  Call it as minimal of an advantage as you want, but it is still an advantage.

damn lets cancel patch for person who is not even playing on ru

xDDDDDDD

I am just sharing my point of view and concern on it, like everyone else was.  I think it is good if more people share opinions.

Also, I mentioned that I was planning on playing more on the RU server.  I played a couple games on there last night, which was the day before I found out about this.  It was my first time playing there in weeks.  I wanted to make a return, which would qualify me as someone that plays on RU.  I think catering to returning players is just as important as catering to active players.  Catering to new players is also very important for keeping the game alive.  There will be some people that love this and some people that hate it.  Maybe it will even bring new people in if they think "Hey this is cool, I want to try these new settings on this oldschool game from my childhood", but maybe it will also deter potential returning players from returning.  If there is some sort of pre-game option for it, maybe it would be better for catering to everyone?  I know it would probably cause a hassle for streaming though.

I've asked to be demoted. Insane to me members of the community are ok with theft, even if it's against someone they dont like.

Might see what USA has to offer.. or if there is potential for growth there. Idk. Best of luck all

It's actually been growing pretty fast and becoming more active.  There's been more active recruitment for GoG and USA than there has been for RU.

If the group was created by Burnt, then it should belong to him.  Any reasoning behind taking it from him is irrelevant.  If you want a group run a different way, then create your own group.  I don't know much about this history of the origin of this thread, but it doesn't seem fair to take over something that another person created, without their permission.

Server.War2.ru / Re: War2 Social Media

If we are to do any advertising, we should be advertising the game, in general, to groups for retro gamers, rts lovers, computer gamers, etc.  Work on recruiting more people.  I know most people would disagree, but I feel like advertising the GoG server might be the most successful method of bringing in new players.  I'm sure GOG generates a decent amount of traffic, and giving War2 a boost on their site would put it on the radar for a lot more people.

I didn't know there was a YouTube channel dedicated to Warcraft 2

Ahh I remember IGL.  That's what we used for War2 around the time I stopped playing.

I was looking through older threads, and came across this.  Neat to see my name in here when I assumed nobody would have even remembered me.  Though I guess if anyone would remember me, it would be Burnt.  I've had a few people ask me what my AKA is or accuse me of being a Smurf, but NOPE.  Just an average player that hadn't played in 10 years, aside from a few games in 2015.  I've fallen back in love with the game though.  Just wish it was more active.

That is why I want to get into streaming this game.  I'm not a pro, so I may not generate a ton of traffic, but more game exposure can't hurt.  Would love to help rebuild this game.

I am speaking for myself, but there are a few reasons why I don't play much on that server.  The server is at the point where everyone joins the same games, even as just a watcher if they aren't playing, which leaves not many other playing options for others.  And the games that everyone joins is always for top tier players.  I am not at the calibre where I can compete with the top players, due to not playing in like 10 years, so I would just be letting teammates down by being useless.  Once in a while there's a new player, but I am not new either, so it would not be fair to compete against noobs.  I am stuck in the middle somewhere, and it is difficult to find games around my skill level.

Also, the attitude of the majority of players is a bit aggressive, which can be very unwelcoming, especially to newer players.  I personally don't get offended by the aggression, but it does affect my willingness to join games just because, for me, it comes across as people taking the game too serious and caring too much about winning.  I don't feel competitive enough to fill the slot of an ally for people that want to win.  Teams would just be imbalanced in favor of my opponents, and a handicap to my partner.  Would be fine if everyone played for fun and didn't care too much, but I feel pressured to find a way to be competitive.

I do want to get better at the game so I can play with the top players again, but I feel like I need to find more people around my level to compete with until then.  Thankfully there are a couple other servers out there with players around my level, which I've been having a blast with, but the RU server, truthfully, just feels unwelcoming for me.  Would be nice if we were able to make games more inclusive of all skill levels, but I understand that is a tough thing to do.

Server.War2.ru / OBS Studio Streaming?
« on: May 24, 2021, 12:41:32 AM »
I thought it would be fun to stream some games while trying to get back into the game, but while testing a game, my OBS would only show a black screen. Not sure if this is a known issue, or if I'm alone on this.  I tried following the streaming directions on some other section of the site, but my version of OBS is much different.
