A draw for being an Observer seems like a good compromise but Jade will hate you forever ;)

WTF are you smoking?  You need to get back on the treadmill.  The fat cells are beginning to replace your braincells!!!!!  No one with at least 0.01% of a single braincell would even think of this let alone consider it an option.

I've never watched your stream or any of its videos before and stumbled across this: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/957731241 @ 4m13s where you busted out in like utter glee, hugging yourself,  looked like you may even shaking and proclaiming a 3v4 win against u8.  Not sure how you came up with that math and he sure as shit wasnt your neighbor.  But I really like the enthusiasm that you showed at the end,  all happy and stuff,  that's what war2 is all about.  I've done that a few times (although they were like, legit situations that called for it,  this one was a little... erm,  iffy haha).  I can barely understand a word you said but it is nice to see players have fun on war2 even if it was from noob bashing :)  You should find a way to make that short little outburst of yours into a signature somehow,  it would be great. :P

winning 3 points per games instead of 32.

You just proved my point for me.  This is called "GRINDING".  Look up the word,  I know english isnt your first language but the word "Grinding" means doing something repetitively in order to SLOWLY gain something.  IE:  Win 3 points instead of 32.   You just proved that the ELO system CAN be abused......... 3 points at a time (although thats not really correct, but its good enough to show you that you're wrong).  It doesnt matter if it's 3 points 300 points or 0.0000001 points.  The problem is that it's a number GREATER than 0.  Since that's the case,  people can and WILL abuse it by simply playing 1000s upon 1000s of games.  In a rung ladder system,  the ONLY way to climb is to play someone ABOVE you.  In otherwords,  the number is ZERO chance of "grinding" anything in order to cheat/abuse the ladder.

For the win I wasnt referring to the Web based ladder system.  I was referring to the War2 Victory/Defeat screen.  As long as it shows the victory screen regardless of what the Observer selects in the "Ally" screen, then thats cool.  Otherwise,  it would need work :)  Cuz we all know Van is going to find a way to be a total dick if he's still allowed to watch games and this doesnt work as intended lol.

Heh Nox does have an amusing point for once this decade :)   Not that I care what/whos it is,  but it is weird haha.

Nox, you're not understanding the TIME issue.  Did you know that chess is a game that can take hrs, days, even weeks?  You cant "grind" chess wins in a chess league due to the time factor UNLESS the league implements speed rounds which is perfect for grinding ELO.  The standard time limit for a Chess game is generally 60 to 90 minutes.  The avg game time for an online 1v1 game like War2 is 5-15 minutes.  Your also not understanding that its POSSIBLE to grind out ELO points.  And if it's possible,  it WILL be done which is why guides exist to show how to grind ELO points for ANY game you want to mention.  Thats just how things work.

Ahh ok,  well the comps bit is something interesting.  I've never actually played a team or 1v1 game where a CPU was my ally.  IDK if I'd even want that.  The CPU SUCKS and would be a complete waste of a mine hehe.  Arent there custom maps that have a CPU as your ally?  I've never played one but I'm sure such a monster exists by now lol.

So what happens to records if everyone leaves except the observers?  Do the winning players get a loss?

You just cant trick and cheat elo in 1v1, elo is base on ur personal performance, you can play whatever trash you want and try to abbuse it, but you will never reach best players if you dont play them and dont beat them.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight,  so this is why stuff like this exists on thah interwebz:  https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/24yjv9/diamond_guide_to_grinding_elo/

Pay VERY close attention to how much emphasis it places on TIME rather than RANK OF PLAYERS YOU PLAY.

Nox,  ELO is not for online games.  It's a BUSINESS decision to attract players under the guise that it's actually ranking people when it really isnt.  All it does is reward those who have the most time to waste.  Thats why there are literally 100s of guides online on how to "grind" elo points for just about every game you can think of that uses ELO as a ranking system.  You wont find such a guide for a Ladder system because its NOT POSSIBLE to "grind" up a ladder without playing players above you.  Its mathematically not possible where as it's VERY possible with ELO which is why there are "howtos" on how to do just that.  Cheat the system.

Does the game not end unless the obs are allied/AV
Once there are no players, observers leave.

Harry brings up a good point.  So are you trying to say that if there is only 1 TEAM left?  IE:  Players from team 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 have all left,  Players from team 1 are still in the game (assuming Team 1 are the winners of course),  and Players from team 9 (OBS) are also still in the game,  == The game ends?

what is the point of the other team settings
To have any number of teams, like 2x2x2x2 etc.

Just trying to figure out what this could be useful for since setting teams like that is already possible without any extra code.  So far the only thing I can think of is a way to force the game to end when there are observers who dont want to leave which I think you're trying to say is already baked in (which is great if that is indeed the case).

BTW,  I like the X on the msg you print.  It's reminiscent of the old DOS version where the word "xin" was actually a thing :)  You're probably to young to realize the subtleness of that nostalgic piece but now you know ;)

Very cool,  I can now allow all the retards to watch me smoke their buddies without them fuckin shit up :)

But you know whats missing?  HELP MENUS.  You cant make new features without help menus silly lol.  Other than Team 9,  what is the point of the other team settings?  Is it just to vis others?  If so,  TVB already does that.  A usecase could be to attach it to the Teams Ladder which is what I had done decades ago when I did the same thing as this :)

Anyway,   good job redeveloping my idea.  It's great to see it finally implemented on a server thats sort of in use (population is really lacking these days).

The fuck are you kidding me ELO is the most important ranking, no thanks im not gonna support lazy trash working.

Elo is a shit ranking system and has been since the advent of modern online games.  It's designed for a completely different environment in an age where the internet didnt even exist let alone online games (1940s).  ELO is easily saturated/exploited by "grinding" points from lower ranked players which is backwards to how one should gain rank.  A ladder rating system is a far better ranking system for CURRENT players in an online environment.  ELO is nothing more than a fun aspect of modern gaming systems that suffer from the "grinding" problem.  When you're playing a game in-person that can take hours or even days to complete, ELO becomes much more accurate.  But when you're playing an online game that can end in 5 minutes,  it's completely worthless.  The original BNET SC/War2 ladders proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt in very painful ways.  The Champions of the BNE ladder were mostly no-name 24x7 point grinders with the exception of the first few ladder seasons.

Ladder systems reward those who actually beat higher ranked players.  Elo rewards those who have the most time to waste.  Modern games use ELO not because it's a good system,  but because its GOOD FOR BUSINESS.  What better way to make money than to encourage people to play your shit game 24x7 to grind points,  especially if it's a subscription based game (such as WoW).  It also helps the game become more popular as it keeps players online for as long as possible which can artificially increase a game's perceived "popularity".  The more people online,  the more likely you're going to stay online as well.  The fewer people there are to play with,  the more likely you are to log off also.  So dont confuse ELO with superiority when it comes to Ranking players vs a Ladder ranking system.  It's simply a pointless argument.

The percentage of fluent english speakers is probably about 95% in war2.  There are only a few here and there that dont speak/understand english well (mostly the russians).  And whether the english is spoken via voice or via text,  the end result is the same.  It's still in english.  If you have to use translators,  there are both voice AND text translator plugins available for chrome.  The language of a stream should never dictate the technology that the streamer uses (speech2text,  etc).  Also,  most streamers DISABLE the text2speech channel and their viewers never hear it.  My stream is different because I wanted to record what people were typing without putting a chatbox window in the video itself.  So text2speech is not something a 'watcher' would really be aware of in most streams.  Ask any pro gamer who is also a streamer and they'll probably tell you that they use text2speech rather than a separate monitor for the chat window.  It distracts from the game to much.  CASUAL streamers however,  they probably will use 2 screens because they arent playing competitively.

When I didnt have a mic,  I would simply start a chat msg and then just never actually send it.  People in the twitch chat would see it as they are watching.  I guess the only difference would be that an actual msg sent back to twitch IRC would arrive a few seconds before a msg they read in the game screen.

I didnt have to make it public,  it's common knowledge for all twitch users :D  Havent you ever wondered how pro streamers could answer chats AND play an intense battle at the SAME time?  They arent reading those comments lol,  they are being read to them via an IRC text2speech bot :)  I like having the voice output to the stream also since the chat isnt in the video itself.  Similar to how a lot of streamers will add a chat box somewhere on their stream.  The result was that as I was playing,  people watching the stream would hear it also.  Thus prompting some idiots to spam the damn thing heh.  I never bothered to put any effort into looking for a good IRC spam moderation bot.

IRC is one of the features that sets Twitch apart from the rest of the crowd and has made it so popular.  I dont know of a single twitch steamer that actually uses the Twitch chat UI,  they all use mIRC (except for the anonymous users/watchers).  IDK,  maybe that trend has changed since?  But I doubt it.  When I was streaming,  all I would do is just open up mIRC and that was all I had to do.  I could then interact with twitch users from within War2 using Full screen without the need for a 2nd monitor and without taking up any screen realestate within war2 itself.

Here are the docs that show you how to connect to a twitch channel via IRC:  https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/irc/guide  And if you dig around you can find videos on how to do it also.  Many of the pro streamers will have a link to such a video somewhere in their profiles.

Any kind of chat content moderation on twitch is going to be done via an IRC bot.  Including spam.  So there really shouldnt be any need to do any wheel re-invention for cleaning up spam on Twitch.  So now you have all the information you need.  Go forth and findeth a good chat spam bot and maybe I'll stream some more again lol.  I just have no interest in spending the time to do that myself.
