Server.War2.ru / Largest Contributors to Warcraft 2 gameplay!
« on: March 01, 2023, 06:47:31 PM »
Most of us are adults now, and this is just a video game that we play casually. We've got far more important things in our lives. Families, relationships, careers, hobbies, etc.

However, I think for most of us WarCraft 2 will always be more than just some "game", even for those of us who haven't played in many years, and for those of us who won't ever play again. For most of the players who log on to these forums, WarCraft 2 is/was a huge part of their life.

For myself, I can take a year or more off from time to time, and I am sure at some point I'll take several years off or never play again perhaps, however ever since I was 7 years old I have not gone a week without thinking about this game and all of the players in it.

I think there are countless players who have contributed to this community in immeasurable ways and elevated the evolution of the meta of wc2. I am going to list my Top 2 though, just to give a little appreciation.

#1 u8t3io3p

He's undeniably one of the best players and talents to ever play this game. I believe it's indisputable that his meta understanding of wc2 is top 3 all time. I believe that every single player who has either played against or with him has learned more about Warcraft 2 in the process. I know that I have personally learned quite a bit from him.

However, simply being a top tier player who has helped to change/evolve the way this game is played isn't what makes u8 the greatest contributor ever to Warcraft 2 (and it's overall average skill base.) Not even close.

What makes U8, in my opinion, the biggest contributor to WarCraft 2, is his streaming platform. He has relatively consistently been streaming for some years now, and in that time I've seen the overall average skill level of Warcraft 2 massively increase. Today, the "average players" understand so many details of wc2 that the "average players" of 15-20 years ago didn't. The Gap Between Top players and Average players was much wider in 2005, for example, than it is now. And, at least in my mind, this is largely due to players watching U8's streaming. Many noobs, and long timers watch his stream, and learn a lot from it. I also believe that everyone who doesn't watch his stream, still benefits from it, due to the collective average skill level that is rising due to those DO watch it and learn from it.

In summary, U8's Skill, But more importantly his twitch/youtube platform, makes him the largest contributor to WC2 Ever in my opinion.

#2 Mistral

Mistral's impact on WC2 is perhaps a bit more obvious, as he is literally programming improvements into the game itself. Any player can now watch any top player from "obs" mode, and observe their resource management, unit skill, upgrade hierarchy, etc. Another example: Average players can now even see the progress bar for units being built - They can see how consistent top players are when it comes to instantly building peon, after peon, etc. There's countless things the average wc2 player has insights into, all due to Mistral :D

With all of these new features, average players can get a greater insight into many of the fundamental and vital details that virtually all top players implement within their gameplay.

In 2023, you do NOT see many players upgrading second shield before second sword anymore, do you? It's a simple detail that is very important in this game, and some of us have known details like this for decades, but now everyone can know things like this thanks to Mistral ;)

This guy doesn't get even close to enough credit and appreciation that he deserves.

Thats it. That's my top two all-time contributors to WC2. In my ideal Warcraft 2 Utopia, everyone is very good at Warcraft 2 - that makes for a lot of GREAT games. So, I have a lot of respect and appreciation for anyone who contributes to the overall elevation of WC2 gameplay. A rising tide raises all boats!

There are 10-20 other players that come to mind pretty quickly, but I just wanted to name my top 2 and spread the love a bit.

Just thought I would post this here in case anyone wanted to seize this opportunity to expand the server's player base :

YouTube

It was posted to youtube 5 days ago, so its recent and already has over 10,000 views and lots of positive comments about Warcraft 2.

Looks like this guy has a lot of followers, and may or may not know about our server. It might be a good opportunity for someone to reach out to him or post in the comment sections  and tell them about the .ru server so that the game can get some new players!

Have Fun~

Server.War2.ru / one key to getting good at war2 and other things
« on: July 02, 2018, 01:20:25 PM »
lose as much as you can tolerate.

don't just play people around your level - play people who are beating you as much as you can tolerate. whatever that amount is... perhaps you can tolerate losing 30%, 50%, 80%, etc. figure out what your max percentage/ratio is then stick to it, and spend less time playing opposition that is beating you less than that.

i used to be bad, partly due to being newer to the game and also very young, but also because at one point when i was like 12 i left us east to play on us west so that i could win more in a less competitive environment. this turned out to be a great way to avoid learning the game. I didn't improve much at all for a few years. eventually us west became less populated, so i moved to us east and found myself playing against top players specifically and near exclusively.... players like grunt.exe, sparkz102, kanuks and many others great players - and what i noticed is that I could tolerate losing over and over, it didn't matter if i went 2-6 or 0-10, every day, week or month.  I could tolerate losing 100% of the time, or somewhere close to that.

After a few hundred games consistently losing series vs top players, I became one of them and it happened within a span of one or two months. I think a lot of people could do just what i did and get a lot better because of it. cool story.

As above.

Thanks guys!

Server.War2.ru / Lobby glitch
« on: August 19, 2017, 03:26:51 PM »
I did a clean install of windows 10, and now wc2 isn't operating correctly. My screen flashes white rapidly whenever I am in the lobby, and at times my open browser / or any other running programs will pop up into the chat lobby or game lobby and flash also.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

How confident are you, Equinox?

You've went around spreading gossips that I don't warvid anymore, or that I haven't in the last few years.

You must be pretty sure of yourself.

General Discussion / What type of laptop do I need??
« on: March 24, 2016, 03:52:24 PM »
I am looking to purchase a new laptop that I will use exclusively for work. I don't need anything fancy, just something that browses quick online and loads, updates, saves, closes files/programs quickly.

I want to buy something for as cheap as possible while still meeting the above need. I was thinking I could just buy something and load it up with ram, but I am not so sure this would actually make it faster - but instead I think it would just maintain its current speed for longer as I go through updates throughout the months that require more and more of the computer? IDK. Help!

General Discussion / What are the best data recovery companies?
« on: March 20, 2016, 11:09:27 PM »
I had a moment of intense frustration with my laptop being slow and slammed my fist into the keyboard. Needless to say, it was pretty stupid of me. A show of my bad luck though, apparently I hit the machine right where the harddrive resides and completely broke it. The laptop itself is of no importance to me, however, the data saved on memory in the harddrive is of great importance to me. A few marketing spreadsheets with thousands of entries that I would like to recover. Most of my data is backed up on a usb/email/external hard drive. But I am short a copy of 2-3 files that I would rather not to have to recompile and enter - such a long dreadful task.

Anyway, I'm guessing my only potential remedy is to ship it to a data recovery company, and just skip taking it around to local repair shops, as I bet they'll just unknowninly mess around with it until the disks inside destroy the data.

Anyone who has any experience with a situation like this I would greatly appreciate your insight / referrals to top tier data recovery companies, and I realize they are relatively expensive but just about any cost would be worth it to me. I'm currently in talks with Advanced Data Recovery out of Sacramento, CA and another company out of Seattle, WA but I just don't kno what route to go and I don't want to pick a b level data recover company who's going to mess something up in the process of attempting to get the data, then failing to get it and making it impossible for the next company to try.

Any help appreciated!

Server.War2.ru / Official War2 Contributors HALL OF FAME
« on: September 12, 2015, 09:44:51 PM »
This thread is to give credit to a handful of players who each individually decided on their own accord to go down a selfless path geared towards putting their efforts into bettering the game in some way or another, because they weren't good enough to ever get recognized by their skills and they absolutely wanted to get recognized somehow.

Unlike the War2.ru Ladder HALL OF FAME, Contributors will not be considered based on anything distinctly concrete or objectively measurable. Thus, their will be no rankings. You must write a short explanation as to why you're voting for nominating a player. Anyone can be nominated!
