Thats fucking hysterical, lord knows there was tons of rich material in there. Mackman, Ghostnuke & Bizatch can act as a cautionary tale to the youth in a college course some day lol… How the hell did you even find this?  I think Axo’s forum was down by this point, wonder if she saved a back up of the old forum posts that are lost.

ABSTRACT
Chapter 8
Gaming before E-Sports: Playing with Gender in Early Gaming Communities, 1993-2001
Marley-Vincent Lindsey
Brown University, USA
Discussions of competitive gaming often begin and end with the development of professional E-Sports. However, competitive gaming has a history that stretches back to the rst days of networked play with rst generation games like Doom, Warcraft II and Multi-User Dungeons (Henceforth MUDs). Within these games, digital communities became a prominent means of discourse and discussion, heavily reliant on gender as a habit of thought to describe inequality and disparities between players. Using an archive of Warcraft II histories, and forum threads for the game, this chapter describes a social history of this digital community with speci c emphasis on the ways that gender was used.
INTRODUCTION
February 9, 2001 was an infamous day for a popular Warcraft II Forum called the Warcraft Occult. ~Summoner, a notorious trash-talker on the forum, was caught hacking in a game of Warcraft II1. The game was saved, and then posted on the forum for all other posters to view and download on a thread entitled “SUMMONER IS CAUGHT HACKING” with a description:
Ender-Wiggin: A dear friend sent me a save game in which it shows Summoner with 3 weapon upgrades, and 1 shield upgrade. Thanks to DK’s wonderful program, we should have one less hacker in the “community” (Ender-Wiggin, 2000, [msg 1]). 2
Response was fast and furious: in a forum where most threads only garnered three or four responses, this initial thread had four pages in response, filled with anger, frustration, and even threats of physical violence. Over the course of the next week, numerous other threads were created to gleefully discuss the

Gaming before E-Sports
allegations against ~Summoner, many of which took similar tones. Posts on the initial thread included the following:
sfg: in the names summoner posted as hackers they all do hahah and i know u hacked every single game and not once in a while so stfu fag but u suck anyway so it doesn’t matter. (Ender-Wiggin, 2000 [msg 39])
PCSPEAKER: [to another poster in the thread] Get a fucking clue you fucking scrub. Justify the rest of your heterosexual allegations before trying to impress with the horseshit you think is insight. (Ender-Wiggin, 2000, [msg 76])
SloBz: You faggots who accused paper/cinder/myst/nail are moronic. None of them hack. They love the game and wouldn’t cheapen it with Summoner’s B.S. and Summoner ur posts are fucking stupid. (Ender-Wiggin, 2000, [msg 94])
7VIesSiah: I can’t beleive Summoner (aka GenMike, JenMike, GayMike, there are a lot of names for this fag) is still playing this game. It isn’t surprising that he cheats. This guy has always sucked. (Ender-Wiggin, 2000, [msg 97])
Ash-: Our conflict ends here. I was right about you hacking, and all your bullshit now sees the light. I am the better player and the better man. In the end I will always be the better man. Thank you for the satisfaction of victory. (Ender-Wiggin, 2001, [msg 41])
Ash-: [responding to someone asking Summoner if he will attend an offline event, as people could try to hurt him after this] I won’t hesitate to deal out punishment as is necessary. Don’t worry though sum; you will survive. (Ender-Wiggin, 2001, [msg 48])
The following was posted on another a thread started by ~summoner, entitled “get a life please”:
Ash-: WS and SLAM [two other players accused of hacking] used to be pretty good on kali. When they came back to war2 on bnet, they got raped. They got raped all the time that I played on bnet. (~summoner, 2001, [msg 5])
Another thread entitled “SUMMONER IS FUCKING GAY” contained this description:
cancer: POST HERE ABOUT HOW GAY SUMMONER IS. P.S. SUM UR A FUCKING FAG.. HACK- ING PIECE OF SHIT. (cancer, 2001, [msg 1])
One of the most common themes in these threads is also one of the most confusing: What about be- ing a good or honest video game player necessitates a discourse that invokes gender, sexual orientation, and physical violence? Meta-level discussions of trash talking on the same forum, within the same time period yield unsatisfactory answers, such as this post from a thread entitled “Trash talking”:
korpo: It’s only fair to say that no one is the greatest trash talker of all time. There are so many people who talk trash (including myself), that they cannot be counted on a calculator. It only adds flavor to the game and it’s pretty cool after you talk trash, and then you rape them fairly hard. You get the satisfaction of feeling “I told you so.” (reaverlisk, 2000, [msg 2])

LOL Summoner and Valk catches were prolly the biggest bomb shells of war2 history even more than swift getting caught red handed. Predating this exchange there was lots of tension built up in the kith kannin thread where they faced off in a series where his lvl 5 rush tied him to lust and used a flier to cover his tracks.

I hope they brought up the part where Summoner faked his own death in a car wreck before the War2 Summit of Seattle and made Ash wait for hours at the airport to pick him up. The shame was too much for either of them to face, even to this day Valk won’t acknowledge his hacking. Makes u wonder how Swift looks in the mirror every morning. =) JK
(Unrelated note, Kanuks told me to this day he still feels Slighted by that Tourney win Valk stole from him in the Finals in his hacking prime> Perhaps the War2 High COuncil should look into vacating that victory and awarding it to Kanuks who was dominating him all game, but Valk kept making PERFECT counter moves.)

Other notable threads would be Shazm going insane and threatening to kill everyone or rob a bank to support his war2 habbit.

Jayhawkerz stalking Nalzymans X gf
Mackman explaining how all homo sexual are pedofiles or some shit.
Bizatch deleting his ram^

Ywfn take some pictures of the full version and post them!!
OR share any notable threads or quotes u may stumble upon =)

This is amazing. And he made Waldo wait at the airport for him and never showed up. Ash was in California. He was 'flying' into green bay and he was going to ride with us to seattle. Thank god he didn't.

The popular strategy doesnt go hold with so few peons... it's more like 17-21

Well, I don't know what 'popular strategy' is, or who you're referring to. My reference is to actual games played by 'top current players' going hold at 13, 14, 15 peons game after game.

If that's what you think a huge mistake is, then my entire previous statement is validated by you.

the game is growing all the time, players are getting better, you can not compare the players from 2000 and from 2010, if any of you  played in SC:BW knew that in Match up  PVZ  protoss never played FE, then they start doing fast expand(12 probes 1 forge 2 cannons) in 2018 now they are doing 1 cannon 1 getway and rush zerg with fe

I watched few replays "top players" and they made MANY mistakes, now players tier3 are not doing basic mistakes, they were good few years ago, ofc they could be now also but we will never know this

For example braviet, he is playing all the time, and he still dont know how to make hall for best mining gold from mine

this questionnaire is bad

P.S. alf is nup

Players may be getting better relative to how good they were, but you're right, you cannot compare to the past. The players and games in war2 from 98-2003 were far superior to the games of today.

I compare my experience in playing in those eras with watching numerous replays from your tournaments in the last year, and playing in the last month.

No one is doing anything new or special that wasn't done before. I've been trying very hard to find any improvements in tactics from anyone's game, but I haven't seen any.

Until I do I will keep my opinion as is.

The popular strategy among many of you, this 14-16 peon hold... that gets lust with 6 or 7 ogres. You know what we called this shit 15 years ago? Archy lust. Cuz Arch would get rekt right after his 6 ogre lust attack failed.

The starcraft strategy you're talking about.. tactics come and go, that's all the meta game. Once zerg starts modifying their opening, that opening won't be as good, it adds nothing to your point because it proves nothing.

The War2 metagame in 1s and team games has always been changing, and back and forth to old ones. That's just a reflection of the players creativity, or lack thereof.

And when referencing the current crop of players that I've played with, except for maybe braviet and paperboy, lack there of.

Lol I find it amusing when most players weren’t around for every era and the vote becomes more a popularity contest, but ill try to add some perspective! Truth is many players have held the mantle of best player for short or long periods. As with anything a huge variable was how much time you’re willing to invest and your motivation.

Top player for Era - Combination of 1on1 and team play for a prolonged period.

Dethwlkr
Azteca
khb
Scrubbo
Incin
Ash
*kyle
*Valkrie
Shotgun
Pimster
Axo
Kith
Kanuks
Viruz
Braviet

Great potential- Great players but they had a few weak points in their game they never bothered to address or became overly reliant on certain strats, which made them a little predictable. Others  didn’t necessarily have glaring defficiencies, but they didn’t play long enough to truly let their potential flourish.

*Lone -
Teaboy
yah`mon
Tyrus
*Hornet
Tabac
Knitterhemd
sun`am
szwagier
Jesk
Buzzbomb
KGBagent97
Prophecy

Dynamic Players - Players I found who are great at improvising or coming up with creative and inventive ways to approach a problem. They would easily crack the top player list if they played as much, but regardless would do well in any era

Top Human Players

Kith

Best Fags, i mean Gayers

Nalzyman - Never seen anyone surpass his elaborate gays to this day, high risk but high reward.  Shotty Tried to dual on him twice and he only got 1 bag of gold for both games combined lol
Dugz- Knows every chop and hidden rax spot and can seamlessly transition if something goes wrong.
Kyle - he knows he can play catch up if his gay utterly fails which gives him a little more freedom to try things
Braviet - King of suicide strats!

Top  FFA Players

Sc~terror
Kyle

Favorite personal Hypothetical match up 4on4 - My best allies vs the most Solid team I can think of , would be a great series and shotty would still find a way to blame his allies LOL

Top Shit Talkers-

KHB
Shotgun
Azteca

NeRzy tried out a program on Kali for a week that when a peon clicks on a building it makes it explode, wasn’t really “hiding” anything, just tried it out along with the name color change program. Was clean on bnet, KHB is just jealous Nerzy has always been considered top dog over him even allying total newbs Like Skaven_wh. Khb would dodge certain people and only ally certain players that could carry him. Also , why do you feel the need to make up lies about players dying? I hadn’t seen you in a decade 1st thing u say to me is “Log off the DI tags, your diluting the (DI) brand lol, like anyone knows who the fuck ur clan is anymore Uncle Rico. Shotty talks shit in a funny way, while you are just a hateful black hole of negativity for some reason. Blid is the war2 Therapist and he’s here if you feel the need to reach out and touch somebody.  Don’t stress it Baby, he’s just mad his glory days are behind him now that he’s dead weight

He (nerzy) was definitely actively using it on kali, as he got caught with a lv1 dk dnding. Every top player around in 1999 knew about this.

He was shunned for a while and he disappeared.   The only  players I avoid are cheaters. And I try not to waste my own time allying ill equipped players

Some of these "legends" and their unfriendly, unwelcoming, juvenile "I'm so good and everyone else is trash!" attitudes are most responsible for W2 having such piddly nightly traffic.

Ie. Shotgun and KHB's sad douchebaggery caused by their insecure overinflated egos that emit leakage of stenchy gas every time the taut skin of the fragile bag is prodded.

It is not in their best interests to keep putting air into bags on the verge of bursting.

The best remedy to ease their tension and help them back into a more stable state for their own safety is to erect a giant mirror (since nothing else giant is ever going to do so in their vicinity) in front of them so they get a glimpse of their lame real life character that derives its only validation in life from a 20 year old nearly-dead video game.

Teams TD Viruz/Shotgun/KHB/BabyShark v yo0/braviet/Talrand/Tyrus and nonstop crybaby whining from Shotgun and KHB because the concept that they just might lose a game is unbearable to their super fragile ego.

I've partnered and fought pro players who can and have beat Shotgun many times and rarely run into this level of pussy crybabiness over having a lesser player in the game. There are a number of high skilled players that aren't anal and are secure enough and adult enough to not lose their mind if they carry a newb and lose for it. They give themselves a challenge, and the newb learns along the way.

The game where I was on the other team lasted a good while and was as good and fun a game as any among only top players. If it really was 4v3, it should have been a much easier win for you but it was actually a very close game.

The reasons I'm challenging this kind of sad behavior are

1. the server can't flourish in a toilet and needs more players, not a routine ejection following attempted humiliation of people who are trying to learn
2 if people are going to be community leaders and hailed as some kind of greats, they should act like it and set a better example
3 if it goes unchallenged it's gonna continue
4 because it's not a fun and healthy place to be to be so filled with anger and rage that you lash out at people all the time for no reason...whatever is leading these people to be so hostile and angry needs remedy in their life and it won't be dealt with if they are able to bandaid their internal pain with rude treatment of other people that gives them a temporary rush and release but doesn't address the real wounds inside

Stop trying to blame me or su for the shitty amount of players. I've been playing for 3 weeks. Before which I've barely played 100 games in 10 years.

No one playing definitely has nothing to do with me.

And you're acting like we committed domestic violence. You're not a good player, I'm sure you're a good person. When we're playing war2, we want to have a competitive game.

We don't play war2 like other people play wow or hearthstone or whatever other casual game there is out there. I don't know what your motivation for play is. Mine is purely competition (legit competition) only.

Keep your tears to yourself

KHB, tupac, I think if you remake warcraft, you should rebalance the races!

I have tentative plans.. but the last thing I would want to do is have two versions.

Why not use sc2 instead?

Sent from my SGH-I317M using Tapatalk

I did. I had a prototype 6 years ago. But it was extremely cumbersome and the SC2 editor is not that great to work with. I'm sure it's improved slightly since then - but I'm not going back to it.

Hammer is far more advanced in what we need - to make a totally different game.

Using the dota 2 tools. I may require art and certainly will require playtesting. I've just started, I will let you all know when I have a prototype for testing.

All for now
