that is cool, i suppose the balance changes wouldn't be too hard to implement, i never even noticed they were in the game.

I think you'd have to default the settings in the game to get people to use them, which is why im just hoping blizzard gives us multiplayer features so we can all play the game in one place. although it'd be a shame to leave all the hard work people have put into modding this game over the last many years


There're plenty more loudly people in not only this community but out there that will strongly defend default game balance, besides it means only playing Orcs 99% of time.

If you got Remaster rebalance changes set by default, probably you would either see people leaving or complaining about it. It's good to have it as an option, but if people truly had intention to play a way better game balance that actually allowed Humans to be playable, then people would pick it up. I've seen no people interested in it over past 4 months.

In Remaster, you have no choice, you either take it or simply dont play Multiplayer... But it also affects Single player there as well.

If by miracle, you mean Blizzard exports all the rest of remaining positive features from War2 classic (Combat) into Remaster without bugs, I think there're plenty of people who still could NOT play. As far as I was told, Russians CANNOT buy the game by themselves. I mean Remaster. They have to get it gifted in order to install so then play.

Don't know why this happens but they just didn't allow russian people to play new game version from the beginning, by even allowing to buy it.

well everything about remastered is better outside of the multiplayer features, so basically everything. graphics, balance changes

If you're asking for the very only official War2 Remaster rebalance patch ever released by Blizzard, this is actually available in War2Combat - Multiplayer - game option in Lobby.
There's a small dropdown list there that allows to select "Blizzard" option which is the same rebalance set up by Blizzard on Remaster.
This option is 4 months old and i've seen literally nobody talking or playing with it, which makes no sense to me because it brings an actual chance to competitively play with Human race and win in multiplayer. People are stucked instead with the bloodlust fest from default game balance.

If you refer to War2 Remaster AI graphics, I was thinking to import War1 remaster graphics on the future. At least getting few contrasts from Remaster and classic, buildings seem almost the same to me. This can be done, even though I see 0 interest from anybody in community to make this done. I could do it and its possible, still.

The only 2 options I saw that are better in Remaster rather than War2 Classic (Combat) is to have health/mana bars above units and 12 units selection.
At least the health/mana bars can be fixed up and it was said by one of War2Combat developers, but 12 units selection is way too hard because its hardcoded to many functions. So this would be pretty much the only thing that cannot be imported here.

Yet, if you're looking up for other fancy quality of life features in War2 classic (Combat), there're several mods already for this game version that were made since 2019 and another guy known as Mistral, which have several enhancements for the game. Not only audio or visuals, but things like:

-improved AI
-rally points
-repairable catapults
-game timer
-hotkeys program
-widescreen
-actual game support, instead of Remaster which has none. And neither war2classic had ever support by Blizzard
-community members which still make multi/singleplayer custom maps quite unique.
-Over 20 mods already for War2 (not just tweaking some map with certain unit restrictions & default AI).

The content is there but people dont simply give attention to, yet thanks in advance if you're interested in any of them.

im hoping blizzard has eventual plans to add some multiplayer features to the remastered version of the game

otherwise i wonder how hard it'd be to rebuild this version with the changes?

Hello everybody!

I have discovered sources of war2mod in mistral's repository here: https://github.com/Mistral-war2ru/War2Mod-Server and found that some functions I can try to change to work faster (all functions doing auras just iterating all units. Instead we can store for each cell which unit is in it and instead iterating all units just check nearby cells. So if auras have range 5 we can check only 11 * 11 = 121 cells, that will work faster if we have at least 122 units. And the same we could do with autoheal)
(It's all started when I making some map with triggers found that it was too laggy and unplayable when there are many units with auras so I wanted to know why, and when I saw the code as competive programmer it blows me up)
Also I am thinking on doing some AI improvments.

So this is my question, how can I join the server with my custom build of war2mod (I understand that I will drop in all games this way) or any other way I can play games and check it working? And if it will work faster to change the original version?

so here's the thing and why i'm wondering about this tournament. It's coming up this saturday, I've got a youtube channel about warcraft 2 and I want to promote the tournament

If I make a video, post it on all of the blizzard subreddits and get let's say 20k people to see the headline, let's say a few hundred of those people actually take the time to watch the video,
and then I say "hey guys, there's a free tournament this saturday where 9 grizzled veterans are going to beat the shit out of everyone on the same map and resourcecs they've been playing for the last 30 years, why not join?"

vs "hey guys, download this free game for a good chance of winning 50 bucks randomly just for signing up and having a good time on all of these cool maps and resources where you might have a fighting chance"

why not limit the random prizes to the amount of participants. So let's say you guys are expecting like what, 30~ people to join? Let's say we manage to market the tournament to people outside of the community and pull in another 60 players so now we've got 90 players - how many random prizes? maybe we have 2 random prizes for the first 30 players, and one more random prize for each additional 10 participants?

Either way, if I knew that I could make a video simply saying "sign up to win a piece of the $1000 prize pool with random participation rewards of $50 I can work with that. I'll promote it either way but if we want to bring new players into the game we need to market it to them, the guys already playing dont need marketing.



people would get more interested if there's more variety rather than seeing the same 5-10 guys as always, playing the same broken game balance with just Orcs heavily favored and the same literal map everytime, aka: gardens of War.

I dont try to be mean. But doing the same thing gets no better results

In case people dont want to touch and modify War2 Combat (classic) in any way to get more attention, you can try out a tournament for War2Remaster, where people are *forced* to play other maps rather than just gardens of war AND, there's this Rebalance patch by Blizzard which makes a much more fair chance for Human faction to actually play in multiplayer

hi, like title says i ask moderators or admins if is ever going to be another War2 Combat ladder season.

But most specially, wondering if this time will be added up a season with Blizzard-War2Remaster rebalance.

For the first time, in 30 years, I've seen one single Blizzard's official game rebalance patch for Warcraft II, where I significantly see a chance for Humans to be playable on the game, in frontal combat and in fair 1 vs 1 game.

For some very unknown reason to me, no people ever talk about it in the most populated and regularly visited War2 server. The only ones I've seen talking about it, are beginners - casual level people from War2 Remaster.

This rebalance patch may not be perfect, but its a legit intention for the first time in 30 years, to see Humans being actually playable.

Why no people interested in ?

Why no interest in making a whole ladder system with this rebalance mode, even if its officially launched by Blizzard Entertainment and made available by Ed gorod ?

Like if people would like to be hardstucked in OrcCraft II or BloodlustCraft II for ever.

My main concerning is that past Ladder season in the beginning of year, actually added up a whole set of different maps to play with, even if the so beloved Gardens of War was added up. But it still gave variety at last, even though it was same base game balance.

No intentions to fight, but would like legit answers to this, if ever possible please.

I could understand 5 years ago, that people would think War2 would be stucked to Bloodlust + Death & decay for ever, since official developers never released a game patch or rebalance patch, but that's no more thanks to Ed gorod (most likely and other admins from community). Yet, even with official content, people still dont ask for stuff like the Rebalance mode which makes Humans finally an option to fairly win Orc oponnents.

and what i mean is when you download and install the game, windows says this program could be dangerous

the program is safe and its been used for over 6 years. Also, are you installing war2Combat v5.0 ? this one i read recently that is built up in a different way that stops giving this false virus alarm

Yes and No.

Referring to what Ed said above, I can somehow make a thing like this to work but not in the nearby future.

On current mods, I've around 25 differen tilesets. Including the ones from base game.

Some of them share the same color palettes for the whole tileset sheets. So then its possible to combine. But i dont have them planned to do for now.

Not sure if this was ever possible in Starcraft 1 though. Combining different tilesets like snow + wasteland + space. Maybe its possible but the game may have same issue about color palette files.

It's a good idea, though.

I planned to use this feature from multiple tilesets, thanks to Ed, to make Ramps for example in War2.

This could be possible but Ed said vision would still be an issue since it not works like Starcraft AND... there's no tech to make hits fail like in Starcraft where like 30-40% of shots miss on high ground

I'm in support, but I've noticed that most players are strongly attached to keeping things the same. A lot of it seems to come down to ego. They resist change and justify problems in the game as skill-related instead. I think it's more about not wanting to adapt.

a lot of conservative stubborn mindset. But it happens in every single game. Those people, unfortunately, are the most loud to talk and resist about game changes.

Not just referring to audio/visuals, but just even changing the game balance for the better.

This game has 16 spells. Every single game is just bloodlust or very little to see Death & decay/Blizzard, if humans ever played.


I think a very large amount of casual level people would like to play with everything the game has to offer, from spells to units but they simply dont speak good enough about wanting it.

Be that as it may, there're 2 "rebalanced modes" in Lobby, multiplayer games. For those who want something different, at least the alternatives already exist.
