hey fellows, danny here. New war2 mod with higher difficulty.

Road of Heroes, new difficulty mod for war2.
Road of Heroes, new mod based on DAIFE difficulty. Expected higher difficulty in future updates
it's fully playable and includes some of the most recent features: daytime cycle in some forest-like missions

That looks sick. Been starting the war2 campaign again and will play upto dark portal. Would be nice to try it out once it is out!

hey, they're from warcraft 3. Grunt ready 2 is warcraft 1

Warcraft 2 road of heroes MOD is fully completed at this point (June 28th, 2023). I haven't tested up all missions but they're theorically possible to beat and functional. There may be some bugs around, though.
Hard mode is available to play at its full capacity:

I've uploaded the last, v7.8 version to Road of Heroes mod.

This version includes Easier mode, which attempts to showcase the whole mod features to a more casual public.

Hi Danny, I recently got back into War2 after a long break, and couldn't believe how many fun mods there are now! I really am shocked, since nobody did anything for this game for years and years.  I really like all your mods. I have a question for you: I am getting ROH up and running, but I haven't figured out how to change the resolution in ROH_HD.exe. I know in the widescreen patch, there is a .ini file with the resolution settings, but that doesn't seem to work even if I rename it to ROH_HD.ini.

Also, question about the difficulty! I played your Warcraft II DAIFE v7.0+, upgraded version until about Human campaign #10.  I was able to beat each mission, but only by saving/loading a LOT. Is the ROH "easier mode" harder than the upgraded edition, or about the same?  I ask because I'm not sure if I can handle any harder than the upgraded edition without rage quitting.  LOL

The resolution can just be changed in the Warcraft_II_HD.ini file, which comes with the widescreen patch files. The ROH_HD.exe file is *just* for playing the game in widescreen resolution (whichever you set in warcraft_ii_hd.ini file).

ROH Easier mode is definetely harder than DAIFE mod, which was more oriented to showcase the original intended difficulty by Blizzard Entertainment in the original campaigns, yet it never managed to be accomplished. Since the maps still needed several testings, bug fixes & checking out overall computer behavior in speed for attacks, upgrades, workers count.

I made this Easier mode for ROH in an attempt to allow more casual level people to being capable to see the new generation features for warcraft 2, yet the original main difficulty for that mod is Hard mode, which was previously tested up (& stored) on the youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/@dannype3 (http://www.youtube.com/@dannype3)

or the previous one which was deleted by false accussations from Youtube, dannyldd.

are the same.

Only difference is that from v7.0, I incorporated some new generation modding features for war2 like:

- multiple tilesets across the campaigns
- customized damaged portrait icons for units
- upgrade alerts.
- little tweaks for bug fix purposes on mission objectives.
- kills counter on units
- Sound Alerts for gold/lumber/oil.


Road of heroes on the other hand, have some difficulty variants which also include several bug fixes for the AI to make them more competent against player.
They can now for example:

- use death knights or mages to harass the player alongside their armies on transports or ground. Casters can use blizzard or death & decay on peons, such as multiplayer strategy.
- Comps can now break walls. Player can build walls.
- build cannon towers
- train & send goblin sappers / demo squads to attack the player
- build way better off around their bases to optimize their available space.
- repair buildings with few workers
- infinite resources to get in late game, if being previously set in order to force player to win the game by defeating them or completing objective.
- smarter comps to attack different locations.
- comps can now lay siege on islands, recover those units and get to another.

and way more.

I was recently requested to make a 3rd even easier mode in case Easier mode wasn't enough.

Search for Puddraft. The best map editor by all means. For warcraft 2.

I think its possible to randomize the music. Will get it incorporated for the next RoH version, which may probably include a 3rd even more easier mode for it. And probably the last version for quite a while in that mod.

That would be awesome! I think with just a few minor changes the maps will be much easier. I noticed in the map editor that Knights/Ogres and Mages/Death Knights were found earlier in the game. With the easy version, maybe you could eliminate those upgrades until the usual maps you see them in? For example, Death Knights/Mages should only appear in about level 10 and beyond (whatever it was in the original game). The difficulty level in the Multi-Tileset "Upgraded" version seems to be very balanced!

With the music, it might be better to have the music continue playing instead of starting over when you load a saved game, if that's possible.

Edit: Another thing, I don't mind if there are more enemy troops to kill on the map (in fact, that is a great thing). However, there should be a lot more gold if so! Otherwise, you spend time defending your base, start building an army, and run out of gold before you can win!

New feature to randomize the music in-game & Friendly mode. Even easier difficulty than 2nd mode.

did you download the new files ? ROHfiles folder + new plugin files?

Remember to not set more than 1 pluginROH file in your Plugin folder.

I'm checking out and seems to load ok, unless I missed up something. Thank you for the feedback, bud. I cant check out all the possible issues for myself.

Edit:

Try to check the missions out with a smaller resolution like 960x544 (resolution = 3 on widescreen ini file)

I got destroyed 5 times on the 2nd Human mission with Friendly mode. Lol.  I guess I'm just not as good as I used to be. Do I have to lure the enemy troops into my ships or something?  I always get attacked by about 10 enemy troops before I can even train 5-6 footmen. They launch a major attack at about the night cycle (which is a really cool feature, by the way).

Not sure I'm good enough to continue these missions! :o

I tried building more peasants first, then more archers first, then a barracks first. Kept my healthy guys in the front lines, less healthy guys in the back. Had all my peasants working. But I just got overwhelmed each time.

Edit: Wait a minute! I just now tried the "easier" mode, and it gave me 4 peasants instead of 2!  I thought "friendly" was easier? I also noticed that "Hard" mode gave me 2 peasants, the same as "friendly" mode. Maybe the two plugins were mixed up?

sorry, my bad buddy. I corrected it now, +2 peasants and +2 footmen in human2.

The difficulty is balanced out on my own experience and had no other testers to have around. Version 8.7 is released now with that little rebalance

It was very hard, especially with the guard tower behind trees and constant attacks from Red. I had to build 2 barracks and deplete all my resources. I had to save/load about 20 times. I finally defeated Orange and realized I haven't even built a Shipyard yet (I'm not sure I have enough gold now for 4 oil platforms and a shipyard). Lol.

These look really fun, but I think the difficulty of your Upgraded Multitileset version is more balanced! I might return to playing that version.

It was Friendly mode (I wouldn't dare try the other modes!). It's hard to defend the base with no Towers and both Orange and Red attacking. I tried killing Orange at the start of the game, but the guard tower behind the trees stopped me (plus Red comes in shortly after).  I think Orange needs to be much easier.  I'm not even sure if ships were trying to attack me on the coast or not, since I never got far enough to build a Shipyard after about 10-15 minutes of playing.
