They won't expire.  I have an account through mediafire, and files that I uploaded back in 2013 are still there.  There is no 30-day rule with an active mediafire account.

Ive read some of this.

my friend back in the 90s recorded custom sounds for the units. really freaking neat. i still have them. they would be a neat addition to the game.

also some of the old war2 music has been giving the HD remake treatmeant here and there by blizzard.
instead of the same old MIDI the game came with i think its time to buff the soundtrack and some of the sfx and voices and include them in a future patch/verion.

Why don't you upload those sounds?  I would like to hear them.

we all want to make tilesets :( looks like it has to be done using wardraft :o i hate wardraft  >:(

K's is camerons jungle for swamp looks like you got the rest.

glacier is already added in tupacs post :/ wetland is swamp also.

these are not for use with bnet as they are.

I guess nobody saw my update to the official tile set release thread.  I already released these tilesets (Wetland, Cameron's Jungle, and Glacier).  There are no unreleased tilesets left that I know of.  Read the first post carefully:

You can open the MPQ file using MPQ Edit, but beyond that, I couldn't tell you how to open the tileset files themselves to extract the images.  I don't even think they contain images in the traditional sense.  Maybe there is an old tileset editor floating around out there.  The tileset files have the extensions .cv4, .vr4, and .vx4 (found in the MPQ files).

I have updated the first post with a new release.  The new release now has 3 different "flavors" of Tileset patches for people to use.  Here is a description of each:

Comprehensive:  This is the previously released tileset pack, which replaces all 4 default tilesets with Jungle, Volcano, Desert, and Hell. All the critters are replaced in this pack.  Basically, I called this pack "comprehensive", because it replaces all of the default tilesets (and critters) with completely new and different/fresh stuff.

Moderate:  This pack Replaces all 4 default tilesets with Jungle, Glacier, Desert, and Wetland.  This pack is for those who want to keep the winter theme intact with only minor changes (instead of replacing it with the Volcano tileset).  Also, the Wetland tileset is used to replace Orc Swamp.  The only critter replaced in this pack is the scorpion (in the desert tileset).  All other critters are the default.

Light:  This pack only replaces the Winter tileset with Glacier, and the Orc Swamp tileset with Cameron's Jungle tileset.  All
critters are the default.  Basically, this pack just replaces a few minor things to add a bit of freshness.  Forest and Wasteland
themes are unchanged from the default, and nothing major is replaced.

Hey OP make a tutorial for making titlesets or atleast the files to replace in mpq from wardraft that would benefit alot of people wanting to make new ones ;)

Sure, when I get time I'll try to jot down a few notes for people.  I basically just used Wardraft to extract all the files from the tileset .wcd, and compared the filesize of each extracted file with the default tileset files located in art/bgs.  With any other files that don't match up in file size, I used grpedit to open them and find out which graphic they are intended to replace.  The tiny files are usually just text files (not sure what they do exactly).  The rest was just mixing and matching mods to get the tilesets looking better.   8)

I also forgot to mention that one of the buildings has been replaced.  I will leave a surprise which one. ;)

Mods & Development / Released Version 2: Tileset compilation
« on: July 05, 2016, 09:23:24 PM »
Updated on 7/8/16:  The Pack now contains three "flavors" of Tilesets.  Read below.

This compilaiton is a working batch of oldschool Tilesets for the Warcraft2 Battle.net edition!  Previously, some of these tilesets only worked in the Warcraft2 DOS version.  The new tilesets included are: Jungle, Desert, Volcano, Hell, Glacier, Cameron's Jungle, and Wetland.  New critters are also contained in this compilation.  I also included fixed sounds and build pictures for the Spider and Scorpion critters.  There is a new "surprise" building as well.

Version 2 of this release contains 3 Tileset packs.

* How to install *

BACKUP War2Patch.mpq in the Warcraft2 folder, then choose one of the 3 tileset packs listed above. Replace War2Patch.mpq in the War2 folder with the desired pack.  Only one pack can be used at a time, and the new tilesets cannot be used alongside the default tilesets.  You will have to swap them in and out to switch between them.  Make sure not to lose any default files!

This is about all the mods I could find. Check through this pack! You remember the star trek ship? It's in this pack. Maybe the spider is idk but it does have hail fire to replace blizzard ;)

Maybe I can use the hail fire for fun in the tileset pack.  I'll check it out.

Also add the war2 palette I'm sure you know that.

I know the palette has to be added, but I can't seem to get Grpedit.exe to even load a palette properly.  Can you post a link to the palette used for Warcraft 2 icons/portraits so I can make sure I'm using the correct .pal file?  Or is it located in War2dat?  Also, like I said, Grpedit won't let me delete or add anything when I open a .grp file.  Everything is greyed out...

And when you are done with this work make a new thread I will sticky for you! Thanks man you really saved me time, and countless hours of doing this!! You should join me and easycompany with a few projects we can talk about those in pms.

I likely will not be able to, as I am currently heavily involved with another game project (for Unreal, the original '98 version).  I am actually just taking a brief respite from that project to mess around with Warcraft2 for a bit.  I will definitely release this tileset pack when I'm finished, however.

I do have another question.  How do I modify chatroom.tbl to change the name of the tilesets?  I tried using a text editor, but the game crashed.

Does anyone have the original spider critter from the war2 alpha by Brian Sawatzky?  I imagine he released it as a stand-alone, and I would like to get my hands on it if it still exists.

edit:  A better question would be, how do I modify grp files using grpedit?  If I try to open x_port (the icons) for example, it won't let me delete or add anything.  I'm just trying to copy the spider critter icon from one tileset to another.

I have uploaded MP3 files for you, but keep in mind they will not play in the game unless you convert them to WAV first.  The quality might drop if they are converted from WAV to MP3 and back to WAV again.  That is, unless you plan to use an external music player...

That reminds me - I forgot to explain that in order to modify install.exe with the original BNE, you guys will likely need the NoCD patch.  The NoCD patch will require you to copy install.exe from the CD to the war2 directory, which can then be modified with my music tracks.  Otherwise, you will have to modify the install.exe on the CD itself, which isn't possible unless you are using a virtual CD with an ISO file or something.  It was a pain for me to get the NoCD patch installed;  the .exe doesn't run on windows 64-bit, so I had to run it on an old computer with 32-bit and copy over the modified files (mostly just storm.dll).  If anyone has windows 64-bit and needs me to upload the modified storm.dll file, let me know.  The windows registry also has to be modified (check the readme with the NoCD patch).  I found "CDPath" and "War2CD" in a strange place when I checked my registry, so do a search on the entire registry for those strings if you don't find it in the paths mentioned in the NoCD patch readme.

Come to think of it - this is quite complex for most people.  lol.

Is there a way to view .grp files?  If I could view them, it would make my life way easier when it comes to replacing units (no more name guessing).  The main tilesets have already been complete pretty much.  I just need to edit other stuff now...

Having trouble with the volcano tileset.  I got the main files working, but the palette is not correct.  I can't figure out which files are the palette.  the Volcano tileset comes with 10 files.  I know what 3 of them are for, and I'm sure I know which one replaces the seal - but the rest are a mystery.  Any ideas?  I'm thinking that maybe iceland.ppl is the palette, but I can't be sure.

It works.  I got the Hell tileset to replace the expansion swamp tileset (Xswamp) in the BNE.  I extracted the files from Hell.wcd using Wardraft, and got 5 files.  I renamed files 3,4, and 5 to "xswamp.cv4", "xswamp.vr4", and "xswamp.vx4".  I merely compared the filesize of the default tileset to the new tiles to figure out what to name the files.  However, I am still unsure what to do with files 0,1, and 2.  File 2 looks like a grp file, which I guess replaces "demon.grp" or something similar. I'm not sure about the other 2 files...

Edit:  File 1 was hellhog.grp.  It replaces it with a spider.  I'm still unsure what 0 and 2 are.  The oil patches in the water don't match, and some of the decors may not be right.  It must have to do with those 2 files.

Do you need the volcano, hell and jungle tilesets, or do you already have them?

Edit:  I also have a "wetland" tileset.
