in case's ladder #1 can lose to last rank and not lose position in the poll, but lower ranked players jump half the ladder when winning vs a higher opponent. It benefits higher ranked players who like to noob bash. Elo systems are balanced. It's fine, don't take one critique to heart. World competition games like Chess and Go use ELO, competitive video games with a ~real~ population use elo (or MMR) as well so it fucking works.
