iL sent me a crash dump of something that caused a crash and I've fixed it.  Once he gets back, he should be able to implement the fix.  There was a problem with the //alias commands that has now been fixed.  In the past there have been odd problems that cause the server to crash and now that I'm working with iL, those should slowly disappear as he reports the crash dumps to me.

I've also noticed that he does not have a re-start script when the server crashes.  I'll be working with him on that also.  So that if it does crash,  it'll auto-restart itself.

Here's e-mail from support:

Hello,

We've identified an inbound Denial of Service (DoS) attack that is targeting an IP address assigned to your Linode (45.33.94.234). As the attack was large enough to negatively impact our network and subsequently the service of other Linodes, we've null routed the IP address until the attack subsides.

Once the attack has subsided, the null route will be removed and connectivity to your Linode's IP address will be restored.
--------------------------------------------------
Yes, server and backup points to the same host while we are in migration process, that's why they both are down. I'll change backup back to old host and it will be active (in a few hours).

And i have a re-start script for the server already, worked fine several times.

At this time the attack appears to have subsided. We will remove the null route. If that attack beings again we will have place the null route back on your IP.

Stick with our old host the ddos protection seemed better?

Yes, working under DDoS attacks was the main goal for previous host. I think that was one of the reasons for routing and latency problems. Host designed for resistance against attacks, not for ordinary working.
Linode catched attack quickly and just disabled our host, returned it back as soon as i contacted them. That's better than permanently removing the service as ZPVS hosting before.

I added some rules against attacks now, so let's look how it will go now.

Okay sounds good any issues let me know maybe we can upgrade protection.

Erm, so this is NOT related to the crash dump you sent me last night?  I'd like to hear more about the details of this when you can in PM.  Is it the same issue we fixed previously with iptables?

No, it's not related to crash dump, otherwise ping and web on server.war2.ru should work, but network have been down completely.

Yes, i never applied your config into iptables, only to ipfw when it worked on freebsd... Last hosting took care of any kind of common attacks itself, i'll PM details to you.

FYI the DC in Newark has been the least susceptible to DOS attacks since I've been at Linode, so you picked a good one. It's my DC so I work with them a lot, they are awesome at getting DOS attacks nulled quickly so you shouldn't experience any issues with DOS attacks going forth (christmas time was rough, crazy vector attacks coming from china). There have been a ton of changes to mitigate them since the Christmas attack. If you guys experience any issues at all with Linode, just shoot me an e-mail. ryanschneberger@gmail.com or rschneberger@linode.com. I can look into it or get someone to. Best of luck hope this game finds a way to revive itself.

I pinged gruntx to see if he might be able to assist with it.  I think iL is away at the moment.
