I love watching an artist in action.

LOL .... artist ;D

It's like...so personal it almost feels like I'm watching something I shouldn't be!

I don't know if I should tell you but my mouse was actually naked when I did that..... but it's ok the mouse consented.

This is a really easy competition IDK why more people don't enter... maybe the really are all billionaires!

Here's an example of how easy it is to create a simple POS in only 3 minutes...

I think her request to be transferred to a prison consistent with her gender identity should be granted.

Tough issue. I'd like to agree but I'm not sure if I do. Regardless, I'm pretty sure it will be given the same answer that most requests from prisioners are given (STFU or I'll beat you with my baton).

Would you support a transgender man who requested being transfered to a male prison?

What did you do to it?

The top left quater of the map is the original POS. the rest of it is just that quater mirrored.

I also added the mines at 12 and 6 back in.

You're right. I have been guilty of this because I am embarressed about my rl. I once posted a fake pic of myself on ths forum because I wanted people to think I was cool, but now I think I'm finally able to be the real me. Please be kind because I am really self-concious - so here goes:

I know right? I hate myself  :-[

Given the extremely high rates of assault, sexual and otherwise, in US prisons, allowing trans women to serve in female prisons seems like an obviously humane move. Then again if the US justice system cared at all about being humane the rates of sexual assault in US prisons (including female prisons) would be much lower in the first place, so. Good luck to her in any case.

I agree with the sentiment, however I'm not entirely sure such a person would necessarily have a better time in a womens prison. What makes you think the women wouldn't do just as bad as the men or even worse?

General Discussion / Re: Warcraft 2: BNE Cinematics not working
« on: January 06, 2018, 07:17:21 PM »
HI .... WELCOME  :)

I believe the cinematics have been removed to reduce the size of the download, you can probably find it on YouTube, there is also a torrent of the original wc2 bne CD floating around that has them.

For your black screen problems the first thing I would try is the ddraw fix SEE HERE

Yes.

You can do it. You just need each computer to use different game ports. The default is 6112. The war2combat installer allows you to change to a different port number, or you can just change it in the windows registry.

under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Battle.net\Configuration

there is a key called "Game Data Port" (or if it isn't there, just create it).

It will be 000017e0 by default (6112 in HEX) Just change it to a different number >=1024 easy to just change the '0' on the end to another hex digit...  0->9 or a->f

If you both want to host you will have to set up 2 router rules mapping each port number to each computer's local ip address.

BTW the need to route ('open') all ports from 6112 to 6119 is a misnomer that has been around for many years, you only need to route your game port (6112 or whatever)

Server.War2.ru / Re: What monitor is best for Warcraft 2?
« on: January 06, 2018, 02:22:05 AM »
WC2 runs at 640x480 pixels 256 color. It was designed to play on oldschool 4:3 monitors, although some people may prefer widescreen as a matter of personal taste. The desktop resolution you set has no effect on the game, it will always run at 640x480x256.

Hackernoon-Amazon-Bitcoin

read teh comments they seem to know more.

Interesting stuff there. The transaction speed thing is a real issue I wasn't aware of. I assume the speed bottleneck is correlated to the actual encryption methods. Is a 'faster' CC a less secure CC? Does CC verification slow down the as a function of the amount of a given CC that has been mined?

It can be useful to think of cryptogrophy like calculating prime numbers. The first few you can do in your head ... 2,3,5,7,11,13... the first 1000 can be calculated in seconds by brute force, but once you have found the first 19K the 20th 1000 primes take a LOT longer to find: The time required plots a J-curve.

I don't really know anything about CC algorythms, I'm just making assumptions based on general math/computing knowledge, but I would assume that as bitcoin has been around the longest there would be more of it in existance than any other CC. How much of a factor this is in transaction times and how much is intrinsic to the algorythms IDK either. A certian amount of it will be related to existing infastructure, but that can always be upgraded.

Hmm... interesting brain food for for nerds :) But the real thing here they saved until last --> Amazon creating it's own currency. This is a HUGE concept.

past that point anything that can't actually be exchanged for something real (not just other cryptocurrancy) will become instantly worthless.

Were Amazon to do this they would own the bat AND the ball, so therefore the game. This would certianly raise a few eyebrows amoungst the powers-that-be. I doubt they would be game to be so bold just yet, first they would want to further solidify their central place as a purveyor of the tangible, and allow other CC's to stablize as genuine forms of currency, before draining their value into 'ZonCoin'.

Another thought is that as the owners of the actual value of their own currency (the equivalent of the gold in the vault) it would not necessarily have to be self-supporting, i.e. it needn't necessarily be a true cryptocurrency at all, just a ledger. This would have been unthinkable 20 years ago, but now that the collective consiousness has been acclimatized to the notion of 'coins' they play with on their phones, the fact that it isn't a real CC would probably be lost as so much more nerd-babble.

but ya aint gotta be rich to be rich u know...we can all have our own limo easy.

I feel like a class action law suit is in order.

This might prove difficult. A 2.66GHz processor will still run at 2.66GHz. It's only the caching that's being borked, and although that is a major factor in processor performance....

LAMBY'S 5 minute DIY puter building crash-course

- Pick a processor, make sure it has good cache speeds.

- Get a motherboard that supports it ......

.... caches are generally described by size and/or transfer rate - both of which are still technically unaffected. However now because of the way operating systems will be forced to use them, much of the benefit will be negated (for certian processors) but I doubt that this would  invalidate any specific claims Intel would have made when advertizing their processors.

IIRC specific benchmarking comparisons etc. are usually done by 3rd party sites, not by Intel themselves, they don't actually make much in the way of specific claims about what their products will do. Probably any lawsuit would have to be based on rhetoric like "with our new supa-pwnage cache technology" or something like that. I think Intel's lawyers would have pleanty of firm ground to stand on.

IMO the only big danger for a lawsuit would have been if there were major security breaches and people/companies sued for huge damages, but as it looks like the patches will at least be available before the malware hits, they have probably dodged that bullet.

I also doubt that the US courts would be predisposed towards supporting an attack on an American icon over what is simply a genuine technical glitch that has done no real damage to anyone. I havn't really researched all of this, but that's my first impression

--------------------------------

Afterthought:

Over time, running the fix will chew gigawatts of extra power worldwide that would never have been used if the CPU caching was stiil being allowed to work correctly....

totally off topic but is this intel security flaw a real thing? Says the patch will slow down our comps up to 30% =I

Is it really worth patching if you don't use ne crazy programs?????

YES.

Details are still sketchy, but from the sounds of things it's so fundemental that kernel mode protected memory could potentially be accessed from javascript. It won't take the malware producers long to exploit it, that means when you simply visit the wrong website they pwn your system.

This is assuming that the initial reports/guesses are correct, but they do sound genuine and credible.

Basicacally its a bug in the caching of intructions that allows code that has been predictively pre-fetched by the processor to be executed before ANY security checks have taken place, which means that kernel mode protected data can be accessed directly from user mode by any old chunk of code as soon as they work out how to manipulate the CPU's speculative pre-fetching. This won't be very hard and won't take long, now the concept has leaked (mostly by AMD lol ;) ) There will be hackers working on it right now. Lots of them.

edit -------

"The fix is to separate the kernel's memory completely from user processes using what's called Kernel Page Table Isolation, or KPTI. At one point, Forcefully Unmap Complete Kernel With Interrupt Trampolines, aka FUCKWIT, was mulled by the Linux kernel team, giving you an idea of how annoying this has been for the developers."  ;D

@iL if there's anything I can do to help please contact me, I will do what I can. Have you changed the DNS entry to an invalid address? If the attack is continuing that might possibly cause any proxies to get sick of the abusive traffic... worth a try.
Fixed it!

Well, it wrote "No space left on device" on every action (like creation file). But there was about 6Gb free.
What you think that means? I firstly thought that was some kind of "Read-only filesystem". Also maybe that's related to hoster's server migration somehow...

What really happened is all the inodes used. I also know that inodes can be finished, but never touched that. And now these's really 1,5M inodes have been used.

So, the server should be ok now.

The first thing that comes to mind is a pagefile blowout (one big file) but unix usually does paging on a seperate partition - so it's not that. Inode exhaustion is the opposite..... too many small files. Easiest fix is to gz them into big files to free up inode resources (and space!).

Good work tracking that down :)
